You have inspired my husband and I to spruce up our property. We have lived in our house for 18 years, and other than redoing the small landscape in front of our house when we moved in, our property has always remained un-planted. We are getting ready to make a small garden in the back yard for next year. I've been taking notes on plants I think will do well here, and have a list. Thank you for inspiring us to get into gardening:) have a great day everyone.

I can't believe the transformation over the years. Off topic: was the Kinzley's Ghost honeysuckle moved from along the driveway? I haven't noticed it in a while. wow ... even I can breath a bit easier now - hahaha !!! While you were trimming the elderberry, I remembered something I was told years ago about pruning Japanese Maples - a butterfly should be able to fly through without touching it's wings on anything - I love the look of the tree-form shape. Of course, I think we were all thinking what will she plant underneath now in that big ole empty space !! Great video full of knowledge, encouragement, inspiration - and the joy on your face working with Benjamin, and Samantha Grace riding her bike, is priceless. I love how your embrace your children and include them in your "job" ... these are the days that will fly by so good for you for enjoying every nano-second with them !!! and a great big thank you for sharing it all with us - we are all blessed indeed 😎

Gives me a lift of spirit! My son got me a pair of Craftsman power clippers for Mother's day to help make trimming easier for me and wow do they ever. He knows I can't keep my hands off plants! But I have to be very careful to not cut off a finger with them. So I use it two handed as much as possible to keep both hands away from the blade.

Ohhhh before you plant anything under the elderberry, that would be the perfect special space for a tea party for Samantha and you or her friends (or her dolls if she’s into that). Just put a picnic blanket down. Maybe her dolls would like to “climb” the elderberry. Or Benjamin may love to play there. That’s where my mind goes with spaces like that. Or she may like a little fairy garden under there. 😊 I have granddaughters about her age, so I like creating little spaces in nature for them to play. Then they’re not just around it but in it, using it. 😍

I love seeing your son in your footsteps. My son used to do the same thing. As my son is in his 50's now, he continually tells me how good his childhood was. Children are so great!

Hi Laura! That area looks much better, especially the elderberry. It doesn't seem like Douglas is being mean, but just wants more attention. Maybe try spending more time with him. It was fun seeing the kids out there with you. Thank you so much for sharing!

That tool is awesome! Hubby got me one for Christmas last year. Used it to cut back super thick blackberry vines, too!

Such a beautiful job on the elderberry! It is so fun in to watch Benjamin learn the tricks of the trade - what a great helper he is! It’s truly a family affair in your garden, and my favorite video to watch! The kids, the cats, the family outings, and everyone working together warms my heart and inspires me! 😊 Thank you !

WOW! The blink-and-you-miss-it 2019 insert shot at 23:45 was a profound accomplishment statement and an instant visual growth rate account for the privacy and essential arbor vitae backdrop wall along with the curvilinear boxwood stage and all the components of the evolving set design within. It's magic ... this oh so beautiful space (one of many) you've created, augmented, and ever so diligently maintain! Awesome!!!

I love watching your videos so much. Thanks for sharing your abundant knowledge and love of gardening, your precious family, and yes, even the kitties. I am not a cat person at all, but yours are all a bit chill and fun.
I needed this video as I’ve never done too much with flowers , but you inspired me to do several areas and also about 8 huge planters too. I needed the tips from today about trimming spent stuff and helping reshape them so they could grow and breathe again. Thanks for the inspiration

I’m so glad you made a comment about how hard it is to cut back old growth that bees are still using. Esp when neighboring yards don’t have much in the way of nectar plants. It’s hard to know what to do.

Sometimes when I cut back something that the pollinators are still loving, I sheer it back but then put it in a vase and keep it outside in the shade. The pollinators go right on loving it!🐝❤

Wow! That before shot made me tear up with hope! Amazing how much everything has filled in and grown in 4 years!
And I agree about the other elderberry’s on the end, being a back drop, and would not trim them up. The fullness gives a cooling effect as well as beautiful background for the ground plants.

Love your story. Yes your instant hedge is beautiful. I have a dog that loves chasing cars so I would really love a fence so she could just be in our yard. Your yard is even more beautiful with that boarder. Thank you so much Danielle
