    As many of you know, I have been trying to make a gluten free ( for many years now) bread, with close to no luck. But I am finally getting closer to getting one done! just a few more changes and we will be all good ( i hope). But in order to do this I needed more flour. So why not show how easy it really is to make it. You just need rice and a good blender, plus a few minutes of your time.

    I never freeze the rice and my Vitamix turns it to powder in 30 seconds to a minute. You don’t need to stir it either. Just take it off the base and shake it a couple of times to move the grains around. Blend again and it’s perfect flour, thanks

    All rice must be washed prior to consumption, to remove debris, pesticides, pest, and heavy metal particles left behind during processing.

    The reason of wetting/drying the rice is because all rice needs to be washed and rinsed. Rice has arsenic in it and need to be washed multiple times before human consumption. I learn from my mother that I need to wash the rice until the water is clear, I never knew why until I read from an article in Boston Globe. Just want to share my finding with you! :)

    • @ZanesFacebook
      @ZanesFacebook 5 лет назад +9

      Dilys Wong nah, it's because the traditional way of making rice flour involves grinding it with stone. And you don't grind dry stones together

    • @ZanesFacebook
      @ZanesFacebook 5 лет назад +38

      Although rice does contain arsenic, you're right. But arsenic is NOT water soluble 😔
      In America, you wash the rice made here because it's coated in talc to prevent the rice from forming clumps. The talc is what turns the water cloudy. Arsenic is colorless, odorless and tasteless

    Add a bit of vinegar & citric acid to 1/2 gallon water, pour rice in, stir for 10 seconds, walk away, come back an hour later and pour off water. Boil rice 20 mins. Strain. Dump strainer onto wax paper. Throw in dehydrator. Come back next morning then take the dry rice, freeze it, then blend it. It's a ton of work, but not really and the flour you get is unbelievable. I was looking for a quicker way and yes you can do this, but don't be afraid of pre-washing things with low amounts of vinegar and citric acid. I do the same for potatoes. Just try presoaking potatoes for 1 hour with a couple 1-2 tbsp citric acid and a decent amount of 1-2 liters of water. Freeze & store the potatoes. Then cook them how you'd normally cook potatoes, they won't really burn or brown (takes much higher heat), they're cleaner, crisper, without the oil. By the way, one of the main reasons I do this is I use to use too much oil to cook potatoes. Then cut the oils out. And could never get crispy french fries again. But by prewashing potatoes, put just a thin shave of oil on a good pot, throw the washed potatoes down, you get real healthy, crisp, potatoes. And you pull a lot of the pesticides, slime, garbage out.

    I make mine with a mortar and pestle
    Add (basmati) rice and a splash of water. Grind it around a little. Bash it a couple times. Open a beer, sip it and do something else for 5-10 minutes, then go back and grind it some more and it's done.
    No need for a freezer. No need to bake it or whatever. The granite will naturally drink up the water and although you start with a paste like substance you finish with a dry powder in just a couple of minutes

    Rice flower is an excellent lightening agent.. in skin care. As well as a face powder. It doesn’t have the sugar molecule which is excellent for the skin. Some face powders use cornstarch which is bad for the skin because it has the sugar molecules.

Was ok for the bit I needed to make my kimchi paste, obviously not the fastest solution if you need lots to bake a cake, etc. but still an alternative to the soak/blend/dry process. +Ginger Shults the blades on them are completely different. The wet container pulls the items down. Where I the dry container pushes the items up.
      So the dry container works much better. And hit is also thicker plastic then the wet one.

      Some bags print it on the back under instructions. Wash rice till water runs clean. Add to boiling water cook for x number of mins. depends on the rice type. The only one you don't have to I think is Minute Rice. I don't use that anymore. Basmati Jasmine & Italian rice are best IMO. Depends what your dish is too :)

    What about a food processor? I don’t have a high powered blender, and don’t wanna go through a lot of process.

    It doesn't look fine enough. I'm thinking of buying a Vitamix and I wonder if just running it for a bit longer would do the trick.

    This is so awesome to know. Does the scent cause any problems? Or is it a natural "scent" added to the rice?

      +Gail Reese everything. It's the base of a lot of my baking and cooking.
      It's a lot like wheat flour minus the gluten.
