I fixed the Rings of Power Trailer

- Fan made. All I wanted was for the show to be good. Weep; for what could have been and will never be. Imagine if the Rings of Power were this. It is not.
Unlike Amazon, I don't own the rights to the Lord of the Rings, although I feel my version captures more of the feel and heart of Middle Earth than Amazon's own trailer. Your support would mean a lot, whether through patreon, or just sharing the video. I want people to see my version. I hope that they like it. And I hope it is a reminder, of what we could have had.

This is made none the less with love and respect for the works of Tolkien. The point of this was not to make money or steal content, but to make something beautiful, and to make a point. I don't contest the ownership of the music or footage in this video, and the companies affected have the right to take the little money this generates. My only wish, is that it is allowed to stay on the platform, as a testament to what could have been. Развлечения
I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.
Tolkien's words are so relevant to us, it's staggering.
and thats why i feel all Tolkien's fans should not watch this show, show them we hate it, make them loose milions of dolars

Not just amazon's disaster of a series
@@annak4045 I didn't realize that you've seen the series yet. Honestly most of the people who are complain are not true Tolkien fans, only love the PJ films, or racist. Probably all three.
Yes, but the thing here is you have love and respect for the lore along with talent. Amazon has none of these things.
Thank you, my friend. That is the point. I want this edit to serve as a reminder that no matter how cool the visuals are, a thing without soul, is still a husk. I want people to see this, get excited, and then remember what Amazon is doing.
@@LivingAnachronism Brother you basically said the very same thing as Garry at Nerdrotic said in his newest video. Looks like great minds think alike. 😉
Amazon may not care about Tolkien but certainly the show runners do. It’s hard to neglect that the seem to know his work well. Who knows if the show will be good though. None of us have seen it yet.
@@fitzgeraldfilmsMN We've all seen more than enough to know already.
@@h.b.hatecraft953 interesting. Do you think you’ll watch it or skip it?
"It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like." - Lindsey Weber, E.P. Amazon's LOTR Series, Vanity Fair (Feb. 2022) .
Peter Jackson, interview GreenCine (Dec. 2002) - "There are certainly themes Tolkien felt were important. We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. What we were trying to do was to analyse what was important to Tolkien and to try to honour that. In a way, were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves."
An excellent juxtaposition. Never stop reminding people of this.
@@LivingAnachronism Agreed and ditto. I fear this is just the beginning of their attack on all things Tolkien...
DONT CHANGE THE SOURCE MATERIAL!!!
@@fabbyy7253 Full agree. I'm honestly not sure why they are drawing from Greece and Rome, when Tolkien has expressly stated his entire world is supposed to be "redolent of the North West of Britain and the hither lands". And at the time, the Anglo-Saxons. I had always pictured the second and first age as being actually, much grander and full of splendor, than the third age. Because much of the theme is of decay and fading. The men of Gondor were great, but naught, compared to their ancestors in Numenor.
It's a little odd to hear anyone say they think it 'feels natural' that a mythical Western Europe from at least 11,500 years ago (or possibly well before the last ice age, there are some contradictory sources on the time periods) should resemble the modern world. Stick to the source material. Whatever it says and implies, don't contradict it.
At 1:23, when the music swelled, I legit teared up. This is what we would've gotten if the show had been handed to competent people, people that understand Tolkien and Middle-earth. Brilliant edit, my friend.
Thank you Linus. It had the desired affect, then.
Very good editing. I wouldn't mind a movie about the forging of the rings, the arrival of Istari and the fall of Numenor... (I've always been fascinated with the Legend of Atlantis!) But it would have to respect the time line and hold to it exactly...
----but this show will not be that. I have wondered if Tolkien had ever outlined the seduction of the human kings when Sauron gave them the 9 rings.
What? I teared up at 1.01 😆. Gosh I miss the old trilogy. Thank you for this edit friend
The power of nostalgia, auditory and visual. You are being reminded of your love for the Peter Jackson trilogy, not the Amazon abomination. This trailer was there to remind you of how much you love and miss the original trilogy, and WANTED the amazon show to be good. And then to feel the sting of disappointment when you remember that it just isn't. No matter how much he tried to gussy up the Rings of Power, you can't polish a turd.
Absolute chills
This was brilliantly made!😊 I was in tears watching it, silly I know but it was my first fantasy book series I read as a child and it's very dear to me. It breaks my heart that Tolkien's work is being bastardized by Amazon.
It is not silly. And I'm glad you enjoyed my version. The intention was to make you feel. To get excited and the feel the loss of what Amazon is trying to take. This trailer is a reminder of what could have been.
Oh no, it's not silly at all. It's the kind of response I would have wanted from the Amazon trailer, but it's clear they aren't going to deliver. This trailer did.
Tolkien's books were the first books that I willingly read, without being forced by the teacher, the books enriched my imagination when I was a child.
And now we are here at this point, very sad.
@@LivingAnachronism could have been? Has this even ‘been’ yet?
@@LivingAnachronism It's a good edit, a nice video simply put. I love the old movies as well as Tolkien's books.
But this circle jerk of hate for this show is honestly ridiculous. None of us have seen the show, so how can we be sure anything is being "bastardized"? Apart from casting, which I think is dubious at best to present as a "bastardization" (as long as real-life race issues don't play a role in the actual story - politics, dialogue, etc - I don't think it should matter what skin color the actors have), there isn't really anything we know so far that would be at odds with Tolkiens vision.
Deconstructing the "critique":
Let's start with the silly trifles:
Beardless dwarf female: it is actually uncertain whether dwarf women have beards or not in Tolkien's writing. The idea of them having beards mainly seem to come from a runaway joke by Gimli in the Two Towers.
Short haired elf: maybe a bit more lore unfriendly, but is it really impossible to imagine that one elf would have shaved his hair? And why the hell does it matter so much? In my opinion it will be much more important if he talks and acts like an elf...
The character issues:
Galadriel being a warrior: if she is presented as a warrior it might be somewhat of a change as to what Tolkien envisioned. There are very few female warriors in his own works, and even Peter Jackson gave Arwen a more active role (replacing Glorfindel) in the original trilogy. But will this necessarily be bad? It's not impossible to reconcile the idea of Galadriel having been more of a warrior type in her early years, and then becoming a wiser, more strategic figure - just like Elrond. It all comes down to the writing IMO. It's also a chance to give her a real character arc. Claiming that "female elves not being warriors" is an integral principle of the Tolkien universe is just plain dumb. Why? What would that principle add to the world and story?
Another romance between an elf (Arondir) and a human: yes, these are allegedly very rare, but again, if they can hammmer home the sensitive nature of the issue in the writing it shouldn't be a problem in itself that they invented this particular relationship. Again, what would this addition in itself detract from Tolkiens world? Comes down to writing (which we haven't seen yet)
The "big" story issues:
Sauron being meteor man: it is not clear how Sauron came as Annatar to Middle-earth. Doing so by meteor isn't ruled out by Tolkiens writing atleast.
The inclusion of Harfoots: they are established in lore. Not at this particular time in Tolkien's own writings, but the writers explanation of them being hidden nomads sort of makes sense to me. I don't see why it is an issue in itself that they exist. It comes down to what they will do.
The time compression: is the only thing that is clearly "lore breaking". But it does make sense from a story adaption point of few, it would be impossible to tell a compelling story about the second age over hundreds of years, with human characters dying left and right. It just wouldn't work. Compare Jackson sort of (implicitly) compressing time in the fellowship of the ring, during the years between Bilbo's party and Gandalfs return.
Final note: people don't realize that there isn't really "a story" of the second age. Amazon is not doing an adaption of a finished storyline such as The Silmarillion or Beren and Luthien, they are indeed creating a brand new story based on snippets of lore and worldbuilding of the second age. Of course, they will have to do this their own way - it's actually their story (even though it's based on Tolkien's world). They haven't "taken" anything from anyone, they have simply created more content based on their interpretation of Tolkien (as is their right - they fucking paid for it). There are millions of Tolkien fans and loads of fan fiction content (even published books). Interpretation is a double-edged sword: we all have the right to our very own view and idea of Tolkien, but on the flip side we don't have the right deny ANYONE else's idea. Not even Amazon's. Ofc we are allowed to disagree, but putting this kind of passionate hate into it... it's just sad. If you like it, watch it. If you don't, don't watch it. Is that really that hard to understand?
PS: Claiming an Amazon produced series will fail simply because you dislike the company is silly. Amazon is just paying for the ordeal, writers and directors create it. New Line Cinema isn't less commercial than Amazon. And don't forget it was Harvey fucking Weinstein who greenlighted Jacksons trilogy.
1000% better than the actual teaser!! Absolutely LOVE IT! (I wish true Tolkien fans like you were making this show.)
It really is, isn't it. We are all witnessing a "TONY STARK MADE THIS IN A CAVE!" moment here.
Definitely better, but the only way to polish this turd was to include a lot of Peter Jackson's clips into it for nostalgia. Whenever the Rings of Powers clips came on, I could feel the drop in quality.
Wow, I'm admittedly impressed. I love how you used the Andy Serkis narration as well to set up the trailer. Obviously you had to utilize quite a bit of clips and music from the original trilogy we all love just to tie everything together. But, the main thing that stands out to me is how much more cohesive this fits into the lore. I would be 1000% more excited for this show if the trailer looked this good. Nicely done, you're a true fan.
Oh wow, I didn't catch that it was Andy Serkis.
Fascinating work! You arranged the scenes in a way that made me a thousand times more interested in what I was seeing and showed what this show was supposed to be about. This shows Amazon's complete lack of understanding even to make a good trailer.
But the thing is so rotten to the core, that when the horses are shown with plastic armor from a 3D printer (specifically when compared to the cavalry of Gondor in the next scene), one realizes that this has no salvation.
My advice, let it burn to the ground.
Agreed. The age of Amazon must fade. But, in my humble opinion, to do so requires the constant reminder of what they have done, compared with what it could have been. To remind everyone, that fancy graphics does not give a show heart. Hence the trailer. I'm with you. And my inclusion and allusion to Faramir's charge was to tell the story of long defeat, and honor the ancestors of the LOTR characters, that this show is supposed to be about. That the men of Numenor and their descendants in Gondor, were made of the same firm stuff. A direct contradiction and challenge to Amazon's take that we should "let the past die." And armor aside, that sentiment (which I added, not Amazon) makes me proud of those who fought against evil, and sad.
@@LivingAnachronism Absolutely, my friend. I love Númenor very much, its heir kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor and its inspiration in Atlantis, Lyonesse, Medieval Italy, Rome and Byzantium. I despise these people's disdain and disrespect for the past, even more so for me, a student of history. The past will not die, because there is a lot of beauty and fascinating things in it, even more in comparison to the contemporary time in which we live. Indeed, we live in the Long Defeat, but still there's glimpses of the Final Victory.
You have my sword, my friend.
Well, I wouldn't have known that about the armour if you hadn't said it. And it would not have mattered a wit.
nicely done, great interpretation.
My word! Thank you so much Mr. Kingsley! Big fan of yours, if you don't mind my saying.
@@LivingAnachronism of course I don't mind, I'm flattered that you like my work too.
You've succeeded. Through editing alone, you have outdone their hollow, pale imitation. What saddens me though, is that you have in a way, redeemed it as well.
The sheer fact that you could, means that there was something there to save. And that it was worth saving.
It proves that the efforts of _some_ of those working on this show, are indeed genuine, honest and true.
It is evidence that among those labouring to bring this cultural battering ram into being, there are a noble few, sincerely giving their all to do justice to Tolkien's legacy.
This saddens me, because *their efforts will be used against us, against them and most of all against the work they are trying to save.* Their blood, sweat and tears will be used to legitimize this false echo. They and their genuine creativity _are_ this project's sheep's clothing. That's why the activists are tolerating them.
Don't fall for it.
Well spoken. And I had considered the potential for this to strengthen their argument, rather than weaken it. And i may still yet be proven wrong, in my assessment. However the fact remains, that whatever redeeming qualities my version may have highlighted, it is my version, and not theirs. And had they wanted to have this be their version, they could have. And seemingly, they did not. I do not for a moment doubt that members of the team and cast very much do like the LOTR and are proud of their work. As an actor myself, I understand this. Unfortunately, no matter how passionate they feel about their art, I have as of yet, not been convinced that it has resulted in something of quality. Perhaps it might, and I would be happy to be proven wrong. And perhaps the tactic from here, should that passion and those individuals present themselves, we should appreciate them, and embolden them, if they would be allies. But if the labor and love of others is a marketing tactic, then yes, I agree. Do not fall for it. And it would be despicable to wield the hearts of those with good intentions as a shield, by those with bad intentions.
Some how this is better than literally anything a multibillion dollar company could dream of. It has an artistic voice for one, which is something all made-by-committee products lack. This looks like someone actually wanted to make it, because they had vision, not just because someone pulled an IP out of a folder and thought "how can we monetize this". Amazing what a little heart can bring to things, and how stark the contrast is compared to that which lacks it.
When a simple video made out of respect by a humble fan conveys more emotion than the fanfic cash grab of a globalist corporation you know the franchise is doomed...
You continue to honor JRR , great job K!
That moment at 1:36 where the horses from the trailer merged to the charge of the Rohirrim at Pelennor - that got me right in the feels. Beautiful job!
I'm glad. I think it does a decent job of harkening to the future, showing that the brave men of Gondor, have fought the same fight against the shadow of mordor as their predecessors.

Greetings to Germany from the USA! Thank you for your support. Took me about 9 hours with all the tweaking and sound effects I added.
This is a trailer! Well done!
And that's what so sad here- Amazon had a literal open goal a million miles wide, it was such an easy victory. The chance to compliment LOTR and tell of the forging of the rings of power, Numenor's rise and fall, and the War of the Last Alliance.
But no- politics and hubris got in the way.
This is the worst part. There are very modern politics in Tolkiens works with Numeneor being a imperial superpower subjugating other races in Middle Earth like the Haradrim. A lot of Tolkien's inspiration comes from the time of WWI which was a great upheaval where the old age of Empires was falling in global war to give rise to nationalism. This could have been explored in a really cool way in the show but the showrunners clearly dont have any understanding of history or geopolitics to pull it off.
Fantastic effort; almost enough to make me want to watch it!
Almost.
Haha thanks, but don't watch it
This show I would watch.
Great job 👍
Crazy, you actually made it look good.
I think there is some confusion, so allow me to clarify. This is not meant to hype you up for the Amazon show. This is what the show might have attempted to do. At least in my version and mind, it better honors the heart of Middle Earth, and the story of the long struggle against the dark shadow. And that honor, lineage, and sacrifice are ideals to uphold. This is my version of what the show should be, should it even need to be made at all. Make no mistake, this is not, I think, what we should expect to recieve from Amazon. I made this trailer not in anticipation of Amazon's show, but in defiance of it. We should not let the past die. Let this vision of what a second age show could be, remind us, of what Amazon has failed to do, and will fail to do, in September.
I got chills watching this. Speechless.
Definitely better than the original version, however I don't think they could've used the footage from the LotR movies even if they wanted to since they don't have the rights for them. I hope the show will be good, although I doubt it based on everything they've said about it. It just seems to me that they fundamentally don't understand the characters in LotR and are forcing the world to fit their mold.
"It just seems to me that they fundamentally don't understand the characters in LotR and are forcing the world to fit their mold."
Because THAT IS exactly what they are doing.
Yeah they couldn't have used them. But the entire second half of the trailer barely has any footage from PJ's trilogy, just the score of Howard Shore. And it is the structure, and heart (which I attempted to give the trailer, and I hope I was successful) that should have been emulated, not necessarily a direct copy of mine. But none the less, you are correct. And they do not understand the heart of the story.
@@LivingAnachronism how exactly do you know they don’t understand. From what I heard they know Tolkien well. But that doesn’t mean the show will be good. None of us know yet. Why do so many act like they’ve seen it already. It may be compelling it may be crap it may be somewhere in between….
@@fitzgeraldfilmsMN What they have said in interviews, and what they have presented, do not match each other. And things certain members of the production team have said, directly contradicts that they are fans, or do understand Tolkien's intention. Time will tell whether they do or don't. If I am wrong I will happily admit it, because I'd love for it to be good. But given that I believe I am correct, based on the words of members of the production team, and the footage and photos released to us, I will not wait until the damage is already done before I say something about it.
@@LivingAnachronism can you quote these damaging words from the production team? From what I’ve read the actors of gil galad, elrond and celebrimbor have perfectly described their characters as Tolkien intended them to be and the showrunners also seem to value a lot of friendship, journeys, good vs evil tropes in Tolkien and are also very knowledgeable in philology which Tolkien was an expert in

Your's already has more coherent logical thought than the original teaser and in so doing is a much better piece of story telling. Wonderful use of the original theme music by the way. It was well placed and if I didn't already know this show was going to suck massively, it would have brought a tear to my eye at the thought of returning to a respectful representation of Tolkien's great work that is Middle Earth. Wow. That was great.
This is so good
*sniffle* you got me with that music, man.

Thank you for this.
I think the audience just wanted to be reassured and told through the trailer "remember those amazing movies you loved, well we loved them too and so you can trust that this legacy is in good hands" which is exactly what this nails as oppose to the crap they dished out
They'd say (and have said) that this "isn't related to Jackson's trilogy and not to judge it because it's a different thing". Which is highly convenient for them. And begs the question, why they highlighted that they cast people who look (like) the cast of PJ's trilogy, why they were shooting in New Zealand, and why they hired Weta.
Wow, this is great
Everyone share the heck outta this.
omg i literally got chills
Hundreds of millions poured into a series made without love or understanding, vs. a trailer made with love and understanding, but no money at all. Amazing. If (God willing) I am ever a billionaire, I will certainly track you down and hire you, among others, as a consultant.
I'm an actor myself, I'd be happy to audition, in this hypothetical ;) we need good stories again.
Why can’t this be real, it’s so insanely compelling, I won’t watch this Amazon show but maybe one day something of the ilk of Jackson will be made. I instead wait for that day.
This was honestly so beautiful and pure in its minimalism, even just working with the little available. I’ve definitely been keeping a positive attitude toward the show, understanding from the beginning that no adaptation of the second age in particular is going to feel as fully Tolkienian as the Lord of the Rings, but man, just seeing it here so simply, I want to stay positive, but yeah, why doesn’t it look more like this? I think it’s just the meteor that’s really killing it for me. Old Celebrimbor also not helping. And “Brandyfoot”. Just hoping for the best insha’Allah.
This was awesome. It strikes me as more of a companion to their trailer than a fix. I absolutely get why you went for the ring poem and including Jackson film clips, but I don’t think it will ultimately fit for season 1. I’d be surprised if the rings even begin to show up that early on and putting the poem in their season 1 trailers would set an expectation that will probably take several seasons to pay off.
Well... We got the rings in episode 8. Just the three elven rings. But the other rings that were meant to come before, are still not made....
The music in the actually trailer made it so GOT-like... on top of it all I feel like there's going to be a lot of little things in the series that will make it PC
why the F... did they not give you the job? this is so much better.
Now this is something
Respect. Good Job.
Taking a steaming pile of garbage and turning into an enticing trailer. This is ART at its finest.
I'm so glad to not know what's fixed because I've never seen the original.
also, ending on isildur reaching for the ring, and then the balrog theme....nice touch!
Thanks! Though unless I am mistaken, which I do not believe I am, that is the theme of the One Ring itself at the end. Placed there, after the hopeful scenes and theme of the shire (through the orchestration of "the fellowship") to illustrate that the story of the second age, is the story of fighting the long defeat. And no matter how beautiful the scenery, or hopeful the relationships, it is a sad story, which ends, in the shadow of the Ring, at the beginning of the Third Age.

Unfortunately, The Rings of Power will not be as I have represented what it could have been here. Or likely won't be in any event. You're worries are well founded, in my humble opinion. And this video was intended as a comparison to what they themselves have offered, to highlight that.

@@LivingAnachronism yeah, despite the sad age we live in, I guess I should enjoy it(your version) regardless. It's better than most trailers in the last decade.
@@amirhosseinmaghsoodi388 I'm glad you enjoyed it if you did. But it's not just for fun, it is meant as a reminder, of what we are losing.
Holy shit I'm a bit drunk a bit that made tears come to me. Incredible
It was very kind of Andy Serkis to do the voice-over for you.
This is amazing! :D
FOR TOLKEIN
