      This happened to us. We bought a Richmond home and there were many problems. One of the painters was mad that we wanted his shoddy paint work fixed so he took a hammer to the support beam in our garage and entryway door and there are visible dents. He also bent our incoming water pipe, and hammered a roof tile and broke it, our roof leaks in front patio. This was all right before we moved in. The Richmond PR Manager who did the final walk thru with us told us the items on our fix it list were not going to be completed. DO NOT BUY A RICHMOND AMERICAN HOME.

    I toured some Richmond American duplexes yesterday and they seemed quite nice to me. I even walked through a couple still being built and I didn't see any issues. I design trusses for a living so I was looking at the trusses and framing mostly. I'm about to buy a duplex from them in Vegas. Hopefully they have improved things since then... I think they are held to higher standards these days at least.

    Thank you for warning us! We had issues with DR Horton on 3 homes and saw a HUGE difference between them, a couple other builders and Shea Homes. WE LOVE SHEA. But we are looking for a new home and want to be open to all options. I worked for a homebuilder and I have also seen a few inconsistencies depending on the region. THANK YOU

      Companies that have been in business a long time may experience these issues in different regions especially when the project manager is inept. In Maryland for example the homebuyers who've built with Richmond American are pleased. Especially recent homes built in the last few years

    • @J-ZIM
      @J-ZIM 11 месяцев назад

      @keishapuryear8180 NOPE. Homes are expensive. There's NO EXCUSE for the homebuilder who doesn't take care of the customer's valid complaints. Hire better project managers and contractors under them. All customer complaints/quality issues should be addressed and taken care of.

    Even spec homes need to be built according to local codes! The fact that the Builder ignores the homeowners' pleas, is a sign that they are not honest, Nor do they care about establishing a relationship with their customers.

      In a different state, I hired a building inspector who found over 2 dozen mistakes--paint, stucco, window seal, tile grout, etc. Also, 2 fixtures I ordered were not the ones installed. I got all taken care of before I moved in. Quality control person took my inspector report to his bosses and maybe got some subcontractors changed and a supervision policy put in place. It now takes twice as long for Richmond to build a new home in my neighborhood. 3 supervisors routinely could be found sitting in their trailer on the site but never inspecting the work done by their subcontractors. Fact: everybody but God needs to be supervised.

      Were you able to cancel? I too was looking into a home with them before I saw this video but the only reason I didn’t go with them them was because they wanted a $10 earnest deposit and the lady was straight forward and said once you apply through their lender it’s not a pre approval it’s a 100% approval and if you
      Cancel you lose the deposit. The area was nice but the city’s taxes were over $800 a month so we decided not to go with them in the city they were building. If you weren’t able to cancel hopefully you will have a positive experience. Good luck.

A family member lived in it before us , so we had about a 12 year experience with the home . It was about 3 years old when we moved in . Our main problems were with plumbing ... to the point where we refer to the house as waterworld to this day . It was a beautiful home and it didn’t have too many problems ... it’s just that you should have to have things gone back over ... when you’ve spent all this money on a home . I hoping for the best as I move forward with RA , theirs is the best floor plan for me.

So held the home for some months because the guy has cancer, they did it because they thought he would die, they would turn around and put the house back on the market for way more money! I bought a Richmond American home in Washington state, the house is less then a year old and my drive way is falling apart and is cracked “ most likely from to much water added to the concrete “ furthermore, my front yard isn’t graded properly. Water either pools in the center of my yard or comes back towards the foundation which will ultimately compromise its structural integrity over time. My front porch is cracked. They’ve yet to stain our fences. Many of my neighbors are also experiencing issues such as floor boards coming apart. Carpet that wasn’t installed correctly. And when we first moved in there were men working on these house sometimes until midnight just so Richmond could get them sold off quicker. This builder pays people in piece work. The faster they get done the quicker they’re paid and move onto the next part. So there is no integrity with doing a proper job.

    I don't understand where the city inspectors are in these matters. You rely on their independence and experience to root out the problems with the builder at each step or the construction stops. Are the inspectors being paid off by these national builders? I have built my own single-family home on four different occasions in four different counties. The building inspectors hounded me to death on the most picky little details. Most I agreed with and had the contractor fix it before I paid him. I was thankful to the inspector for pointing out the flaws. There's something fishy here.

    While I feel for these people, there are two sides to every story. We've had a great experience with Richmond American. You can't judge an entire company that has built over 100,000 homes based on a few people in one project. There is probably a bad contractor or two at any company. Any buyer, with ANY company, should hire your own home inspector that works for you. My home inspector pointed out a few things that Richmond happily fixed. My general contractor went the extra mile and even added extra slats in my walls for me to hang my TVs on before the drywall went up. He didn't have to do that, but Gary did it because he cared. He said to me, "I'd rather do it right than rush it," and he has stayed true to his word. Here in Maryland, I would use Richmond American again in a heartbeat. Bottom line, do your own research, talk to the sales reps, get a real estate agent who is knowledgable, and hire a home inspector and that's regardless of any company you use.

      It is not another side, just that too many buyers have experienced too many problems. Did Ford correct the Pinto design before being sued for exploding gas tanks and several deaths? Very simply, every worker but God needs to be supervised, every supervisor needs to be supervised.

    NEVER buy a new home...Build your own or buy one that has been around for a while...I built homes for years and switched to remodeling in the 90's to repair or improve the messes left on new built properties...The primary reason is using the cheapest subcontractors, poor project management and a general malaise in the industry...

    The house had a HERs raiting in contract the missing joist the structure is warranty this is about a 30 minute lawsuit in court won.......they took the home back from the other family yeah it sucks but that's not the builders only the city comes out and inspector checked property and granted permits ECT knowing size lots ECT they took her money but later gave a check.
    Every big box has shitty people complaining Ryan homes Dan ryan Dr Horton and lennar
    It's also a issue when a city blows up and they build so much they loose track ie go watch Washington DC metro building complaints.
    Notice how their is like 100 people complaining on 30 videos.......I'll bet money they build 100+ homes a year in each state.
    And nothing I mean nothing is stopping you from having a foundation a pre drywall and final inspection where almost everything is caught....you don't like what you see they will fix it and do it in writing or tell them your conversation is recorded.

    Richmond Homes builds 1000’s of homes a year and there is 100 complaints in these comments. Those are really good odds. I’ve been in construction for 28 years and every builder has complaints. People buy a product home and want a full custom home sorry it doesn’t work like that. I really hope these folks get their issues resolved.

    • @barbarapanunzi4971

      No, people pay a lot of money to have a home built correctly. When I walked into my brand new Richmond Home, the AC didn't work, the shower was poured to where the water went away from the drain, the main hallway wall was wavy, the window had a bad seal allowing water in, the elbow on the sewer line was put in wrong forcing water to drain up hill etc... These are incompetent issues. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect competence. Richmond is nothing but greed and the city who inspects these houses have to be greedy and lazy as well to pass these inspections.

      With all due respect Barbara if been in the construction industry since 1986 (HVAC) and the last thing I want is shoddy workmanship and parts
      If I have a client that has a issue I really really want to get it taken care of very quickly. Can we make everyone happy no. Dealing with a happy client is so much easier than a upset client. This is from selling shoes to selling houses. When I have a issue with a clients product I due take it personally because I feel my company is better than that and I’m also a homeowner.
      I have worked with some of the biggest names in the construction industry some are good and some are lacking.

      ALEX: If you experienced what these people are going through, then you would feel MUCH differently!! Today's home builders hire the cheapest labor possible to maximize profits and you see the shoddy work being done in videos like this. Decades ago, new homes were built MUCH better and tract homes were QUALITY homes and NOT garbage like these homes.

    • @bcbock
      @bcbock 5 лет назад

      The support beam in the floor is definitely against code and a sign that either the engineering wasn’t done properly or they substituted substandard materials contrary to the plans submitted for approval. I’d also measure your rooms and make sure the are as big as promised. One big national home builder built a lot of homes with rooms that were smaller than specified in the contract, but refused to admit it was fraud. They said it was an oversight, even though it happened in dozens of homes. Just because a home is a tract home (notice the t, not the k), it doesn’t follow that they should not last more than a few years without repair. This is builders being cheap with labor and material.
