  • David Attenborough explains the fascinating history of Charles Darwin - to his visit to the Galapagos Islands that inspired his groundbreaking theory of evolution to his favourite plant!
From Galapagos with David Attenborough & Kingdom of Plants:
Legendary naturalist and TV presenter David Attenborough heads to the Galapagos, one of the world's most extreme and hard-to-reach locations, to explore the unique environments and species of the area. Each episode of the three-part series covers a different aspect of the history and development of the Galapagos Islands - the origin of how the islands rose from the ocean, the evolutionary innovations that helped life develop and explores the fact that no two islands in the chain are the same. The programme also features the final known footage of giant tortoise Lonesome George, the last survivor of his well-known species, before his death.
Kingdom of Plants 3D is a natural history documentary series written and presented by David Attenborough, which explores the world of plants. It was filmed over the course of a year at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.
Each of the three episodes explores a different aspect of plant life. "Life in the Wet Zone" explains how plants first colonised wet and humid environments, "Solving the Secrets" explores plant reproductive techniques and "Survival" shows how plants continually adapt to their environments. The series also goes behind the scenes of Kew's Millennium Seed Bank Project.

I'm 50 years old and, like many of us here in the UK, David Attenborough has been a part of a my life since the beginning. I've always just accepted that he is a naturalist without thinking about why.
However, on seeing this video, and David sitting on the ground, casually patting the tortoise on the shell as it ambled past, I was suddenly consciously struck with the answer to why. To get that close and comfortable to countless charming creatures, in their own environment, surely must be one of the most enchanting experiences you can have as a human being. It would keep me fascinated for lifetimes.
God, I really need to get out more!

Actually Darwin studied the differences between the four (three in 1835) species of Galápagos Mockingbirds . Mockingbirds in Galápagos sparked Darwin's theory only years later did he apply the same though process to the different Finches which he had collected (not well documented from which island or at what altitude Finches were captured at in Galápagos.

As I wrote long ago : "About gene and evolution(as defined by small changes(due to natural selection propagated via a mechanism of hereditary transfer (which is genes as we understands it in biology today)) ultimately leading to a new offspring that is different from the original parent); here is my question. As I understand it, genes are on the chromosomes as base pairs (some may be determined by complex relation between base pairs on many chromosomes but there are there on the chromosomes). This means that there are only a finite number of individuals possible. Then now suppose in a thought experiment (Gedanken), we produced all the individuals that a given totality of gene of a given species allows, then now if any two among that sample is combined to produce an offspring (allowed by the rules of the mechanism of hereditary transfer(DNA replication )), but that offspring should be already there in the old sample; so where is evolution? To me it seems that this genetic mechanism forfeits a global evolution; that is to say, this genetic algorithm (mechanism of DNA replication) does not allows a global evolution in a sense that if that mechanism is carried out in perfect precision THEN A GIVEN SPECIES IS A CLOSED SYSTEM, so it can not give rise to a new species as above Gedanken experiment shows. In a perfectly DNA replicating system, evolution can be looked as a local apparent change due to our not seeing the whole assemble of all possible allowed individuals by the whole gene of the species simultaneously."So the only way a new species can arise from an old one is via the inperfections in the hereditary transfer mechanism which is in line with Lamark's idea as pointed out in this discussion.. see link below for my original facebook post facebook.com/dhargyal007/posts/pfbid02v3LM6kHN9auGZJTSrfZM5EC7RxduBe5TYKhUsxV2rEUBL6xEr138Up4XRf82b5mfl

That's not evolution, that's showing a wise designer that builds resilience and adaptation in all His creation. If evolution was really happening, why can't we see one animal turning into another? We know that plants and animals will change depending on their environment just like humans will wear clothes and carry equipment based on where they will be working. That is the same way God creates His creatures to change and adapt based on where they will have to live. None of us have ever experienced something evolving into something else or coming from nothing. Imagine your house or car just coming together by chance. I have nothing against Christianity or any other religion, but you grossly mistepresenting evolutionary biology. Of course you do not see one animal suddenly turning to another because that is not how it works. Evolution is the small changes of the gene pool within a population. You have microevolution with small changes of the genome and then macroevolution which is speciation. Evidence of evolution include observations within the lab and sometimes in nature, fusion of human chromosome 2, embryology, fossil record, our understanding of genetics forming complex traits, homology, artificial selection, biogeography, and many more. Just incase if you do not know, evolution does not equal darwin. Darwin did not know anything about horizontal gene transfer, endosymbiosis, transposing, evo devo biology
, genetic drift, modern experimentation, and other topics in modern science. To reconcile your religion with science, I highly recommend the RUclips channel catholicism in focus and the website biologos.

I know there are small changes in all living things. These are not the changes that the theory of evolution addeesses abd if you are honest you would admit. The theory of evolution stated that one kind changes into another. Evolution states that a single cell changed into something complex. I have never seen that happen, you have never seen it happen and no one has ever seen it happen. Ask all those who were born before you. Think logically of all the things that evolution claims think logically if they make sense. Don't blindly follow anyone because of their credentials. It is more honest to say you don't know than pick a side that you know makes no sense.
All the years you have lived you never ever saw one kind change to another. As hard as scientists try they cant even make two different kinds reproduce. If Darwinian evolution was true. The blueprint to change one kind into another would be in every creature. A frog could be changed into a human
It makes more sense to believe in an intelligent designer. I never met or saw the creator if the Ferrari but it would be unwise too think that a bunch of parts evolved into a Ferrari. It would be unwise to think that a horse evolved into a Ferrari. Instead I know that an intelligent person designed and created the Ferrari. I may not be able to point him out but his creation shows his handiwork and proves that he existed.
Psalms 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
