First and foremost, thank you Dr. V for this labour of love you have put into this. I discovered you on RUclips last night and spent about 2hours yesterday catching up on your videos. They are very informative and I have learnt so much. I am not sure if you already made a video on this, but is it possible to speak on the best ingredients for people of colour to look for in products for different weather regions. I live in a dessert environment that is very dry and moisture lacking for majority of the year and i feel it has negatively impacted my skin most especially my scalp.

The fragrance in the cleanser is actually completely natural and it’s from their green tea and spinach. It doesn’t contain any essential oils or parfum.

Incorrect. The ingredient list literally has Fragrance/parfum on it lol. It must be a very low concentration I imagine. It's listed as the very last ingredient. The website doesn't claim it is fragrance free either, only paraben, sulfate and phthalate free.

Although I'm not in your target audience for dark skin, I still love your videos because it's hard to find RUclipsrs who truly understand the science of ingredients. Many of them do address ingredients lists, but they're pretty vague and can be confusing - like you said about essential oils vs "fragrance," but people usually just brush off what they don't know. They all just love these products by YTTP, even if they say they're against added fragrances (I myself like the YYTP products as well, but I didn't actually realize that they have added fragrance! For some reason I thought that they were a brand with no added fragrances, and I do get acne so I learned something). It's clear you have a lot of experience with skincare and not just a beauty reviewer.
I do have a question though - in the glow oil review, you said they used a lot of fragrance (8 ingredients), yet the product itself doesn't smell that much - I can smell it, but only if I get close and sniff it. Could those ingredients have other purposes, or are they neutralizing a bad fragrance or something? It just seems weird because it doesn't seem that scented - so why are so many fragrances added?

When Hyram reviewed the Superfood cleanser he contacted YTTP to enquire about the natutal fragrance also. They replied explaining that it is referring to the odours/fragrance that naturally occur in some of the superfood extract ingredients within the product and it wasnt anything additional or synthetic. They apparently also claimed that they are therefore not irritating or sensitising to the skin.

Can you do videos on how we should use tretinoin if we should at all. Also can you suggest like a skin care routine for dry skin. Like suggest a few different products per step, like from different price ranges. That could be a few videos. Also some videos explaining the science behind the science like hyperpigmentation. I’m a medic so I can follow words like premature puberty etc but lay people might not. Also are you going to launch any products? From my initial studies Ascorbic Acid and Vitamin A caused problems for skin of colour during the day, which are in most creams. So let me complete my study before I come back to you with a robust answer. I tend to ensure safety comes first with skin of colour which is why I always preferred to keep all actives at night. "The natural fragrance that you are seeing is our kale oil or yuzu fruit extract. Although a fragrance is present, it is derived from whole-plant and fruit extracts, not essential oils. By taking scent elements from different parts of the plant or fruit, we are able to achieve scents that are natural and please without irritating."

Per the company: They don’t “add” fragrance to their products. They just don’t put the ingredients through the extra chemical processes to strip them or “unscent” them of their naturally occurring scent. They thought it was best to disclose it as “natural fragrance” on the ingredients list as to be the most transparent and so customers don’t expect it to be “unscented”.

I tried "Youth to the People" when Hyram was all the craze. I tried both the superfood cleanser and the aha power exfoliator. Interestingly, the Superfood Cleanser was very harsh on my skin and left it feeling stripped and tight. On the other hand, the AHA 10% Power Exfoliator worked very well on my skin, and I woke up in the morning with skin that looked visibly brighter/a more even complexion. I loved it so much I bought it twice. However, I now take RUclips videos with a grain of salt, as I was really disappointed when the Superfood Cleanser didn't work, as it was pretty expensive.

I found out the Natural Essence is not oils, or parfum. What they mean is the Natural Essence/fragrances of the Kale, spinach, broccoli extracts all have their own scent. My source is from another RUclipsr called, Hyram he also did a review on the same product, and found out what they meant by that.

    • @acerone1

Fragrance/Parfum it reads. So they’re saying it’s the scent of vegetables if so that’s OK

I got the answer for you "natural essence" and found that it refers to Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool which are technically hydrocarbons and essential oils are made of those. I was mistaken with our Adaptogen line which is essential oil-free and assumed that applied to our entire line" i hope this answers the question. Is this good for our Fitzpatrick type?

Hi Dr. V, thank you so much for your videos, I look forward to them and learning more. For periorbital hyperpigmentation you mentioned used 3 products, 1) The ordinary's Ascorbic acid + alpha arbutin 2) The odinary's cafeine serum and 3) CeraVe's eye repair cream. The eye repair cream has niacinamide and from previous videos you mentioned to not mix ascorbic acid and niacinamide, so should we still use these products in combination for treating our periorbital hyperpigmentation?

Yes, please make a video on alcohols in skincare, especially since most moisturisers use alcohol, and I never know which is good and which is bad.
Also, I'm not sure if this is something that applies to make up as it does skincare, but is fragrance and alcohol bad in make up? Most, if not all, Huda Beauty products for example, use an obscene amount of fragrance in their make up, and their setting spray (Resting Boss Face) is literally superglue for make up, but is essentially denatured alcohol. Do these bad ingredients have the same effect in make up as they do skincare?

    • @vanitarattan

Unfortunately yes. As much as I love Huda the resting boss face I'd avoid.
