Purcell's harmonies are amazing. I can't help but wonder what he would have written had he lived another 30 years.
What an amazing contralto!
Everything in this whole performance excels, but "Thou tun'st this world" is just outrageously good.

Today is Saint Cecilia's Day Saint and Martyr. Martyr means witness in Greek
Wonderful performance!❤️
Beautiful!!!! Can't stop watching this brilliant performance and wonderful video! Thanks so much for this treasure, I wish I could give more than one like!
Totally agree, Paul! By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
Superbe !
"Brisk without lightness, without dullness grave." This is a great poetic description of an organ with a good well-balanced tonal design.
Absolutamente magnífico!
Divine ! 🥰
Hopefully soon again on stage here in Amsterdam. Thanks for this great performance.👏👏😘 😘
I wish that the text was available. It’s a very beautiful performance of a very beautiful work.

BRAVA CONTRALTO
@@themusicofwferdinand You have no shame.
astonishing interpretation of Purcell’s Masterpiece. contralto is out of this world ... a true force of nature, as the lyrics says
Who is she? She is indeed superb!
@@georgedebruin6111 Lucile Richardot
Along with Rameau.,surely the greatest compose of the late 17th century
Madame Lucile Richardot.
Does anybody else find it amusing the maestro is using what looks like a mechanical pencil for a baton? At least use a period quill:)
How transparent is this Ode to Dido & Aeneas and King Arthur! Even, "'This nature's voice" is almost identical to Aeneas' Lament followed by the Sailor's song. Perhaps Purcell was thinking nobody would notice that due the big "miscarriage" Dido and Aeneas was after the School's presentation. Big mistake, dear Purcell! Your genius will never pass out of Humanity Sight!
I swear Lucile Richardot is a heavenly being! Her voice is like an angel's!
She is out of this world. I keep discovering her performances and each is jaw-dropping.
I'd describe her as a female countertenor. If I heard her without seeing her, I'd think she's an outstanding countertenor.
A wonderful performance, the best I've seen of this brilliant piece by Purcell.
The more I listen to this, the more I love the passion and precision of this performance and celebrate the genius of Mr Purcell.
Totally agree, Mr. Jeremy! By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
I often wonder what Purcell would have written had he lived longer than 35 years. His harmonic language is exquisite.
An absolute triumph of the Ensemble Correspondances performing English Purcell with gallic flavor. Merci Bocou!
'Thanks a lot' in French is Merci Beaucoup
Agreed, Ivan. By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
The trumpets are so lovely. What a beautiful sound !
This is quite the best rendering of Purcell’s 1983 Ode to St Cecilia made magical by the singing of Lucille Richardot. 💘
Wow, Purcell was more modern than I thought!
Madame Lucille Richardot
Bliss! Such an outstanding performance of an absolutely powerful piece of choral and orchestral music! Bravo!
To day is saint Cecilia's Day Saint/martyr
324 years ago, Henry Purcell, one of the greatest musicians of all time at the young age of 36, died. In his short life he left us memorable music. Thank you master for letting us have such beautiful music!
@@themusicofwferdinand please do not abuse the divine music of Henry Purcell with your
selfish advertisement ....
Very beautiful, everything in this production. The solo alto especially blows me away! What is her name?
I think it's a HE.
@@Khamomil That's Caroline Dangon-Bardot, one of the finest early music singers. Why is someone of your low intellect even watching this?
@@isaacfinkelstein1275 Is everybody supposed to know who she is, and those who don't of "low intellect"? I said "I think" I was not positive. I'm not a Purcell scholar, just discovering.
@@Khamomil absolutely not everybody knows who she is you idiot but you made a stupid comment about her gender, that's what I was responding to. Get it?
Me suis trompé de ligne! Madame Lucille Richardot
A really wonderful performance. Lucie Richardot's voice is extraordinary!
St. Cecilia appear in visions to all musicians!
Possibly! haha By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
Along with Lucile Richardot, Nicolas Brooymans is also a unique talent in this superb performance.
Oh Brave new world that has such creatures in it!
Congratulations! Great performance !! A small note: if you start the list of time codes with 00:00 you will get a division into chapters that helps to move better through the different parts of the work.
I fall in love with this version💞❤️. Thanks so much for this beautiful piece.
Pure excellence !
Absolutely agree! By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
I wish there would be an Cd of this concert.
I believe its a period mechanical pencil. This particular model could be modified to inscribe additional punctuation marks.
I love it that the soloists step out and then rejoin their fellow choristers.
That's the way Purcell's singers did it! Soloists routinely sang in the choruses until at least Mozart's time.
I love Ensemble Correspondences. They sing so beautifully together.
Absolutely agree, Jane! By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
Sublime
Indeed sublime, Nancy! By the way, I kindly invite you to appreciate my works - here on my RUclips channel. I am a classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. Kind regards!
Love, love, love it. What are the names of the vocalists?
In general the interpretation is good. However, for number 8, I am sorry but... the wondrous machine is not the harpsichord.
who is the magical conductor who makes Purcell rhyme so?
Dear Total Baroque!! Can You to write here Cast Gallary of singer?
What's with the video - audio synchronization? Otherwise its great to see the players in this one of Purcell's Greatest.
Hi, do you see any irregularities in this video? If so, where? Thank you.
Bellissimo.
Hoy es el día perfecto para escucharla
No, hoy! 😁
A female "alto" singing the countertenor soli in a Purcell piece instead of a countertenor? OFFAL!
She’s amazing! 🖤
A contralto singing a contralto piece. Get over it.
