      Thank you 🙏 I find that the strength of Korean high-end skincare brands is that they’re developed in-house by companies with massive investments in R&D and innovation. Most innovations in Korean skincare are started by these companies (LG, Amorepacific etc) and then they trickle down to smaller brands over the years. Just to give you a quick example: LG was the first company in Korea to develop cosmetics using human stem cells over 10 years ago and other smaller companies are only just starting to catch up with that this year. Unlike with other premium beauty brands, the price tag of Korean high-end brands is not simply about prestige and branding. I always thought it was a shame there was little to no information on the topic available in English so I'm doing my best to fill this gap and show people that no, one is not just "paying more for brand name" 🤷‍♀️

    Hi Odile, loved this video. Looking forward to the next one 😊. I have a rather unusual request. Was wondering if you could make a video of anti-aging Korean skincare products especially serums and moisturisers that don’t contain Niacinamide. Preferably ones that you may have tried and tested. I worked for anti-aging skincare brands for most of my career so I like to think it’s my ~field of expertise~ and the branch of Korean skincare I know the most about 🤣 most of the contents I planned for this year are centered around anti-aging brands and products so I'm sure there will be something that fits your needs. On top of my head I can think of Whoo's Cheongidan Radiant Regenerating Cream, Isa Knox's Focus Prime Double Effect Face and Eye Cream or Sooryehan's Hyobidam Fermented Cream (I recently talked about it in the second part of my Hanbang guide).

    I've tried to find the Centellian24 Expert Madeca Mela Capture Ampoule RX 7 ml. but major cosmetic sites (StyleVana, Yesstyle, etc) don't stock it anymore. Instead they sell the Centellian24 Expert Madeca Mela Capture Ampoule in a 50 ml flask.

      I would personally go for the Mela Capture Ampoule because it works both to reduce sun damage and PIH. The Isoi's Blemish Care Serum works better to reduce redness but it's not very effective on sun damage or old hyperpigmentation, so in this case I would combine the Mela Capture Ampoule with a soothing product (could be an essence, a toner, a cream, whatever you prefer). If it helps, I really love Dr.G's RED Blemish line or Missha's Artemisia line for soothing redness.

    Thank you so much for the no-nonsense guides. I bought all the products you use for hyperpigmentation. My question is can I use them in the summer? I know that, for example, laser treatment for dark spots cannot be done in the summer which is why I ask. Do you use the products all the year?

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  Год назад

      Yes, all these products can be used in summer 😎 Laser treatments act on a deeper level compared to topical skincare, which is why they're discouraged in summer. TSome ingredients used in topical skincare (i.e. some retinoids) have been shown to increase skin's photosensitivity in some studies, however that simply means you should be extra diligent with your sunscreen when you use those products. Products in the video don't contain ingredients suspected to be photosensitising so you can use them all year round.

    • @benni2910
      @benni2910 Год назад +1

      @@OdileMonodTheMonodist Thank you for your quick response. Can I alternate between retinoids and the products for hyperpigmentation or is it better to do one whole series and then another?

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  Год назад +1

      Yes you can absolutely alternate! Retinoids will help fading hyperpigmentation by stimulating skin turnover by they won't prevent new pigmentation from forming so it would make sense to have an additional product to inhibit the formation of hyperpigmentation. A common approach is to use retinoids at night and a hyperpigmentation treatment during the day, since some retinoids are photosensitive and lose efficacy when exposed to UV rays.

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist

      The serum gets reformulated every year but Centellian24 keeps selling all the previous versions.
      • "Madeca Mela Capture" (original serum)
      • "Madeca Mela Capture RX" (2nd generation, mentioned in this video)
      • "Madeca Mela Capture Pro" (3rd generation that came out this year).
      Every version has different ingredients and technologies but to be honest, I don't find there’s a big difference in terms of long term effects. • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  2 года назад +3

      It's a spot treatment, so it should be used only where you have dark spots. You can use it on top of a liquid hydrator (toner/first essence) and before your moisturiser. It's a very concentrated formula so a little goes a long way (as you can see from this video it should be rubbed for a few seconds for it to melt and the more you apply it, the longer it's going take). If you apply it morning and evening, you should see the first results after 30-40 days but every person is different. If you don't see any results after 3 months however, that probably means the product is not working for you!

      No, when I like a product I usually stick with it for a long time until I have a valid enough reason to think something better is out there (new technologies, new ingredients etc) so these favourites will probably keep being favourites for a while 🤣 last month Centellian24 launched a renewed version of the Madeca Capture Ampoule in this video, the new version is great but so far I can't really tell the difference with the previous version 😊

    Ciao e grazie per i tuoi video sempre molto interessanti. Volevo chiederti se comprando online i prodotti da te suggeriti in questo video si rischia di ricevere un prodotto contraffatto. Sono stata a Seoul qualche anno fa e ho visto il mercato della contraffazione cosmetica con i miei occhi per esempio sul siero sum:37. Inoltre ho acquistato tempo fa da stylevana e non credo di aver avuto il prodotto originale.

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  3 года назад +1

      Sì è un problema decisamente presente in Corea, anche vicino casa mia ho due piccoli negozietti che vendono prodotti contraffatti alla luce del sole e nessuno gli dice niente. Purtroppo i marchi high-end sono proprio quelli più colpiti da quello che viene riportato dai notiziari in Corea. Anni fa ci fu un servizio in TV in cui venne chiesto ad un impiegato di Sulwhasoo di distinguere un loro prodotto originale da uno contraffatto e anche lui non riuscí nell'impresa. Quando vivevo in Europa, anche io avevo sempre la paranoia di ricevere prodotti contraffatti da siti di rivenditori secondari, quindi quello che facevo era acquistare dai siti coreani dei marchi in questione utilizzando un servizio di inoltro posta. Se vuoi avere la certezza al 100% di acquistare prodotti originali l'unica cosa da fare è acquistare da circuiti retail che sono presenti in Corea (o Olive Young Global che però non spedisce in Italia per il momento o i siti coreani dei marchi come dicevo prima).
      I vari yesstyle, stylevana ecc dichiarano di essere distributori autorizzati e per adesso non ho motivo di dubitare delle loro parole, però naturalmente essendo rivenditori secondari non coreani non posso nemmeno avere la certezza assoluta che sia effettivamente così. Quello che può aiutare in questo senso è che case di produzione come la LG (Whoo, Sooryehan, Sum37, O Hui ecc) hanno iniziato negli ultimi anni a usare dei QR code sulle confezioni dei loro prodotti più costosi (tutti i set regalo e i prodotti singoli dai 70 euro in su - quindi quasi tutto fuorché i detergenti) che ti aiutano ad identificarne l'autenticità. Se ti è capitato di prendere prodotti di questi marchi in quella fascia di prezzo dai vari yesstyle e stylevana ecc e non avevano il codice QR sulla confezione, allora avresti ragione nel dubitare però, per adesso, non posso nè darti la certezza assoluta nè smentire.
      I link coreani in descrizione invece sono tutti di rivenditori ufficiali in Corea quindi volendo si possono utilizzare per l'inoltro posta di cui parlavo.

      Grazie sei stata molto esaustiva. Infatti avevo comprato un siero di whoo da stylevana e siccome dopo 3 mesi non avevo ricevuto ancora nulla ho contattato il servizio clienti e hanno subito provveduto a spedire l'ordine. All'arrivo del pacco però ho trovato non il siero ma tutto il set e senza il qr code. Avevo già intuito che fosse non originale ma adesso ne ho la certezza.

    the Isoi serum seems to have alcohol really high up in ingredients list as well as rose oil? aren't those sensitizing ingredients?

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  2 года назад +5

      Not all types of alcohol or essential oils are sensitising. The alcohol contained in the serum is a natural byproduct of the fermentation process used in the product, this naturally occurring alcohol is not known to be potentially irritating (unless someone is allergic to it, but that applies to any skincare ingredient 😅). The Rosa Damascena Oil is used for its soothing properties and like before, it's only sensitising if one is allergic to it. It's hard to make generalisations about sensitive skin because every individual has different triggers, but there are classes of essential oils that are more likely to cause irritation to sensitive skin and they’re mostly citrus oils. Other types of essential oils are not as irritating (again, unless someone is allergic to them) and can also provide benefits to sensitive skin such as essential oils with anti-inflammatory properties like Rosa Damascena here or Lavender Oil etc.
      This is different from ingredients like ascorbic acid, retinoids, etc that should be introduced slowly because they can be sensitising even for individuals that don't have sensitive skin or any allergy. Hope it makes sense!
      Also, Isoi commissioned multiple tests from different labs to confirm the serum was suitable for sensitive skin, and shared the unedited results on their website to reassure their customer base with sensitive skin. So unless a person has an allergy to a specific ingredient in the formula, it should be fine! 😊

      It's a great product to revive grey and lackluster skin, but personally I didn't notice any significant effect on uneven pigmentation. So it really depends what you're looking for! If it helps, I find that the Radiant White Essence works better as an overall treatment against hyperpigmentation. I was battled whether to include the essence or the spot treatment in this video, but the spot treatment is pure magic!

    Hi Odile-this is not about hyperpigmentation. I heard about a Korean microneedling pen that is very good but I forgot the name..Are you familiar with any of these Korean pens? Thank you :)

    Hi, I see this listed on the products, but was not mentioned on the video, could you comment on it? CNP Laboratory - Invisible Peeling Booster

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist

      It's a PHA exfoliant, it was shown during the first part about tips on how to reduce dark spots. It’s the only chemical exfoliant I use because my skin doesn't tolerate glycolic acid and the other "gentle" chemical exfoliants (mandelic acid etc) don't do much for me so PHA is my chemical exfoliant of choice and the CNP Laboratory's Invisible Peeling Booster is the best PHA exfoliant I used 😊

      Unless you have sensitised skin, the Centellian24 ampoule is a great all-rounder that improves all types of hyperpigmentation. It's sold in boxes of 2 or 4 bottles, one bottle is 7ml and will last you for about a week if you use it every day, so if you want to get a month worth of treatment I recommend getting the 4 bottle set or 2 2 bottle sets
