Sam, Thank you from the Conserve York County Foundation for featuring York County. We were thrilled to see your piece on Fenton Mill, as we emerged from the original Preserve Fenton Mill - No Rezoning group. York County is the most amazing place to live and we are trying to protect the character and feel of our area from "over-development".
As a native (born & raised) of Yorktown, the Beach is ALWAYS crowded. Nature IS definitely a PRO of Yorktown; especially in the Historic district ("Tobacco Road" & the trails are awesome, too ~ plus, if you know where to walk, there are a couple of hard to access beaches past the algae-covered rocks beyond the Big Green). ** As for crime??? You've gotta be kidding me ~ there's all sorts of crime here; usually it's standard B&E, vandalism (especially of Grace Episcopal Church's graveyard back in the 90's, and lest we Forget... The Parkway Killings ~ yeeeah, we had our very own serial killer targeting couples all along the Historic Parkway between Yorktown Beach (just past the Waterman's Museum all the way to the border leading into James City County) ntm the FACT that, quite recently, Since the lockdowns, teen suicide rates have jumped AND also bodies have been found in homes (Edgehill), in medians between businesses like the YMCA & Library in Tabb, as well as some car thefts, petty thefts, stalkers, murders and drunk drivers galore; all carefully calculated and meticulously "evaluated" and ruled as something else ~ heck, in the last year alone 296 people have died; less than 1/3 of which were of old age & even less than that were covid-related with a handful or so being ruled "accidental" The remainder? Teen suicides, drunk drivers, and random senseless killings committed by other people (half of which got a slap on the wrist because they had enough money to win in court). And don't get me started on the amount of registered s_x offenders living All over York County ~ one of which is a pedo who just so happens to live within a stone's throw of York Elementary.... Please, I KNOW you're "just doing your job" but please, please PLEASE get your facts straight before you try to sell Yorktown like it's this wonderful flawless diamond set apart from the rest because - as great as Yorktown is, like ALL cities in Every state across the country... It most certainly has its own seedy, dark underbelly that rarely sees light, much less is ever reported/when reported, gets swept under that old, worn-out rug of the good ol' boy system of "justice." Also... If you're not a native, or at least have lived been established here after about 10-15 years' you're considered an "outsider" and if the names Christian Taylor OR Sean Daughtery aren't familiar to you - look them up and see for yourself!
I'm glad I found your page, all your videos are very informative. We are from Upstate NY and strongly considering moving to the area hopefully next year. We were visiting last month and checked out Buckroe Beach and there were 2 cops there so we asked them if someone was moving to the area and wanted a good school district and low crime, where would you recommend. Both of them said Yorktown.
Yorktown is a very nice place, but is becoming very busy. I grew up there and most my family live there. My wife and I came back after living on Maui and decided to move to Gloucester (which is across the york river) and love it! It actually has more beaches (which you have to find because they dont like to advertise them) and way more waterfront lots and less traffic. Just thought I'd share since I saw your post.
I'm from Hampton off of king St but now live in Yorktown (Grafton). It's not terrible. We live off lakeside and the kids play like I did growing up. I miss being close to ft. Monroe though. If you're from these 7 cities you know we identify differently from one another lol. However plane noises never bother any of us but can be weary of gun sounds.
I am surprised you left out the other military base. Your red arrow is pointing it out for a fraction of a second. The cost of living is 10 time's more than other areas with better everything, and it has a nuclear military base smack in the middle of it.
a month and a half of summer? I grew up here. Its more like from May to mid October...absolutely no difference from any other part of Virginia on the east coast silly man
Riverwalk and Water Grille next door, on the water and beautiful setting. The homes near and in historic Yorktown sometimes are passed down to family members but the entire area by Yorktown Beach is beautiful, charming, quiet, nice homes and York County has excellent schools! Also Second Street Grille which is York County and Newport News line. Nice neighborhoods are Running Man and others nearby. Poquoson is nearby too and it also has nice homes in an excellent school district. Highly recommend York County.

Perfect analysis for York County and I think pros can forgive cons.. thank you for your great videos...... 🌹
sorry, I grew up here and it is far from a perfect analysis, he even pronounced some areas incorrectly.

Not DALE, haha...it's Dare, Grafton, Seaford and Tabb.
My hometown, and if you move there, you won't regret it.
Great video, tho...thank you, Sam!
It's a nice place for older people.

Is the whole peninsula pretty rural? Where is the place to be for shopping & good food?
'Rural'? not at all. Typical east coast city with 75% military jobs. The more north you go it gets better though.
