His family owned a bakery in our Bronx neighborhood on White Plains Road near E233rd St. We’re around the same age (52) & tho I never knew him I knew people who knew him & it was a bit of a big deal when he did The Tap Dance Kid on Broadway. Next (in my memory) was Silver Spoons, the Pepsi commercials with the Jacksons, then Fresh Prince. Glad he’s done so well. 🇹🇹🇹🇹

What's surprising is that Alphonso & Jennifer are not aware that Tom Jones proudly believes he has some Black ancestry and planned to have his DNA tested back in 2015 to find out for sure (you can google that info). God bless his heart! I knew about Tom Jones long before The Fresh Prince of Belair & truly enjoyed when Alphonso would break out with his so-called Tom Jones dance. On another note, both Alphonso & Tom Jones are aging well. TRIVIA: Did anyone else know Mr. Jones used to date Mary Wilson, original member of The Supremes, and that his real last name is Woodward? Jones is his middle name.

The first time I saw Tom Jones I'd gotten up from a nap in 1967 to see my Mom sitting on the floor snapping her fingers and watching Tom Jones. I sat on her lap and fell in love with him!

I have to admit that I used to feel negative towards Alfonso mainly, because of how Janet Hubert was treated & I felt like he was a bit of a suck up to Will Smith, like his Carlton Banks character!
But after seeing this interview & hearing more about his real family & upbringing, I’ve gained a new level of respect for him & it’s wonderful to see that he’s been in the seedy entertainment industry & maintained success, as well as his health & a good mindset.
It is possible that Tom Jones has black blood in him in the early days back in Wales many black and white couples had babies, although it was not happily received because of racial tensions
I want to hear his perspective on Will Smith now.

Er...Alfonso Ribeiro did not introduce the Black community to Tom Jones. During Jones's heyday, we even had a dance called... The Tom Jones.
lightglowinthenight: I agree, Alfonso Ribeiro did NOT introduce the Black Community to Tom Jones. But maybe, a particular generation didn't know who he was, before his appearance on TFPOBA. In my original family only I know who Mr Jones is because, my mother had his Vinyl. I remember very well, the song, "Delilah." On the other hand, when my younger siblings came along, those songs weren't being played anymore. So, I agree with Mr Ribeiro when he said he introduced a new generation to Tom Jones.

My mom loved Tom Jones, I used to watch him on TV alllllllll the time with my mom. Tom Jones has always been known to All people 🤭🤭🤭 Alfonso's version of Tom's song will always be classic and loved but myself and many others knew Tom before we knew Carlton or the Fresh Prince show and Tom Jones was entertaining black people and loving and being loved by black people waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before Fresh Prince. We all are unknowing though, when it comes to certain matters so maybe Alfonso just got away from himself in the moment and just misspoke. It happens.🤷 Again, love Alfonso and no disrespect whatsoever is meant but that statement is just not true. He nor the show put Tom Jones on the map, Tom Jones has always been known to all people.
