im just getting into hunting and this was such a good video, thank you.
Good video now I can't wait for squirrel season next week
I didn't know red squirrels to be edge habitat animals but I tend to find red squirrels more often in the Northwoods here in MN. In the firs, pines, and cedars. Whereas I find gray squirrels in more broadleaf forests and of course the cities and burbs lol. By red squirrel I am referring to the Am. Red Squirrel (not the fox squirrel).
Cool, been looking to improve my tree ID skills :) Great video!
Living in the mountains of Colorado I hunt a lot of pine squirrels and I don't have a problem with the flavor but I could see some not caring for it. You just gotta get creative. I'll crock pot and pull the meat then add taco seasoning add to Case ideas or straight up tacos.
My understanding of why fox squirrels are found in edge habitat is because they are larger and more difficult for predators to pick up.
Going squack hunting this weekend!
Sounds great!
Is it efficient to bring a .22 and a 20 gauge hunting so you can get far shots and ease close up shots ?
22 should be all you need. Also never been a fan of biting into BBs lol
Depends. A .22 will be near impossible to take down a moving squirrel whereas a shotgun is very good at this. I use a 12 gauge most of the time and I just have to make sure not to shoot a squirrel too close. I have never had a problem taking out the bbs of the meat. If you want you can get a toothpick and move it around the bb wound to get rid of the clotting. All that being said I want to start exclusively using a .22 so I damage the pelt less because I like using as much of the animal as possible. Also, be aware that a shotgun when shot in the air is non-lethal after about 50 yards and still dangerous to humans for 125-300 yards (dependant on shot size) on the flipside a .22 will be lethal for 150 yards and probably be dangerous to humans until it lands. So if you are hunting on public land or near anywhere that could cause harm to humans or non-game animals I would not use a .22.
.177 cal pellet gun is another effective way I just practice to pop them in the head and I have done this eversince plus it's really quiet and you don't scare squirrels into hiding in my experience
Early season shotgun, once the leaves are almost all of the 22 is the way to go
You can be a combat vet and a beginner hunter.
Thank you! Has subscribed. Like!#105
28 years old going on my second hunt for squirrels maybe I'm too old maybe I'm not the squirrels don't know 😂😂🤣
No such thing as being too old to hunt squirrels
You got a video on deer tracking?
Take a look at this one. It has some information in it. ruclips.net/video/9MLR4U8Le2I/видео.html If it does not have what you are looking for in it. Let me know I have others.
Here is a link to the playlist with several tracking videos in it. ruclips.net/p/PLUy-OfofcwxKJ54LYNHmROQOSn5q61ZMp
Crops is why
gray squirrels love hardwoods on the edge of young pine regrowth here in NC. Also shagbark is a pain to cut, stuff feels like being shot with a bb gun when the chain throws the bark as soon as you dog in.
What chest rig is that?
BOOSHman85 Hill People Gear chest kit.
@@NatureReliance its funny i asked this question last year and you video popped up again and i was wondering that same question again...i scrolled down and theres my question from last year lol..Thanks man happy hunting.
