Im feeding Nutrience infusion I’m in Canada not sure if is the best or what but it was recommended by the breeder the other option was Royal Canin but after reading about it I’ve got Nutrience… any thoughts ?
My dachshunds eat homemade raw (different by the day or week) I prepare my dogs food by the day just like prepping my family’s meals. My rescue is still struggling to switch and can’t even handle high quality kibble. But I did find he does well on beaver meat. I source all my meat from a raw co op
I have a pup who was the only survivor of the litter, including her mother died at birth. My vet didn't think she would survive and had trouble with horrible blood work. So many things wrong. Started feeding Stella and Chewy's red kibble and her blood work has been straight down the middle perfect! It was amazing. I have since started addingore fresh food to her diet but still feed her the kibble as part off her diet. She's 7 yrs old now!
I used to feed my dogs kibble or something for my can. Shane, I put a lot of thought into it and realized dogs and cats would never eat that in nature. They want to have meat and eggs and stuff. Bitter stuff is human food. All the processed stuff like corn, gluten greens, rice, vegetables and fruit. That's not in a dog's diet. I don't see any issue adding moderate amounts of fruits or vegetables to their meat-based diet though. I mean you don't have to buy them ribeyes you can buy them any kind of meat, crappy meat and grind it up. It's surprising because you won't see dogs with cancer and diabetes and skin issues if you feed him a proper food diet
This is what I have been using on my pup since the day we brought him home. Unless something drastically changes with the kibble, we will be sticking to this brand.
We stopped conventional kibble a year ago, switched to Yummers for a few months, then UnKibble, now Carna4! Each step we have seen significant improvement in their health.
@ I completely agree, unfortunately a combination of budget concerns and sourcing near me is limited. And I never said this is all they get. Life, just like for us is all about balance.
@@Veganbutchershopyou have to also be careful feeding them only the fresh homemade food. If you cannot make the food they will refuse to eat anything else in an emergency. A balance is a good thing.
I’ve been feeding my pup zignature since day 1. For the price and for the nutritional value, i think it’s a steal! Shes very lean and the vet says she’s looking good!
Very good comparison! I have fed, conditioned, raised and shown dogs for 45 years. I have also been a devoted student of canine nutrition. Carna4 fell off my radar for a while, and I am so delighted to be reminded of this quality product. Feeding a high quality “base” kibble, with cleanly raised and processed meats is the best I have come up with in all these years.
What a great video! We share your enthusiasm for Carna4 because we have been feeding our dogs Carna4 for years and they are thriving beyond expectations. Not one food related health issue in any of our four dogs. Very happy to see our choice verified by The BK Pets. Thank you.
I have a 4 year old lab. I had a hard time with good quality foods we had her on fromm for about a year she started getting sick. Vomiting and loose stools. Vet recommended switching food. We went to purina one she would not eat it .We did online research and discovered open farms raw mix a few years ago. What is great they have an option of four different flavors so you can rotate. She absolutely loves it. They also have large kibbles, which we use for treats. It is pricey but worth it. We highly recommend it.
Carna4 has always been the best dog (and cat) food "kibble" for years now. I feed Raw with added Dr. Harvey's. But I got family and friends to jump on Carna4 and its been amazing tor them. I work at a vet clinic and recommended carna4 for a while until I got in trouble for not recommending the standard Purina, Science Diet, Royal Canin brands :/ I still secretly sneak the Carna4 in there, though at the end of the appointments during checkout lolol. Amazing freeze dried food that is.
best food for dogs, cats, and humans is meat & fish! my cats get chicken liver, beef liver , and salmon, my dog gets chuck roast, pork belly, chicken liver, beef liver , and salmon.
Mine get about the same but I also throw whatever veggies that I am eating which is usually spinach, carrots or broccoli. They also get treats such as sliced apple, blueberries, and raw meat bones.
I feed my GSD Taste of the wild kibble. The protein content is high, it is made in the USA, and my GSD is thriving on it. His coat is shiny, no digestive issues, stools are firm, and he loves the kibble. I have tried most all of the options they offer and my GSD enjoys them all. I at times will add in a topper of either ground turkey, or beef, cut up chicken breasts, tuna, salmon, etc and he likes it all. On some days he gets no kibble at all as I mix things up and feed him chicken breasts and rice, maybe some pumpkin, sweet potatoes, green beans..... At his last vet check up I was told he was very healthy and his coat was shiny, so whatever I was feeding him, to keep doing what I was doing. The cost is just over $2.10 lb. so it is much more affordable than the brands mentioned here. I will never feed my GSD a low quality knock off brand of kibble. That would be akin to me eating only bologna and hot dogs. Dogs are only with us for a short while and they deserve a healthy diet.. I love my GSD more than I love most people.
our dog is possibly allergic to protein, we just got him, but we think that he had diarrhea for months and was really thin, probably 25lbs underweight I have to feed him z/d from the vet, it's very expensive, but he is doing much better now and gaining weight, he couldn't even eat pro plan for sensitive stomachs which is our main dog food, people should ask a veterinarian before using a food ,there is a lot about it that is critical to a dogs health
Could you do a video about the best affordable kibble? All these options are kinda pricy, what about the middle ground kibbles like diamond naturals or purina?
Unfortunately the affordable kibble are really bad…like crazy bad….not worth it. The amount you save on affordable food, you’ll just end up spending it on your dog’s medical bills caused by poor quality food. I use open farm for my dog, to make it more affordable, I mix it with toppers such as sardines, frozen blueberries, etc from Aldi or wholesale stores like Sam’s club or Costco
I got turned off Acana when they changed the recipe for the 3rd time in a year but didn't advertise it anywhere. They've slowly been adding in more lentils and starches. whole green peas, whole red lentils, whole chickpeas, whole green lentils, whole pinto beans, whole yellow peas, lentil fibre, pea starch - the overall makeup of the food is still mostly fresh raw meat, which is great, but this list of legumes and extra starches is getting longer.
I knew it… my dog only stops eating the food when they change the recipe but I was not able to find or local it. THANK YOU. where did u find that information? I feel so bad now. Been putting toppers on it for her to eat it. 😢
I’ve been Carna4 for over 2yrs. I rotate between proteins every few months, with no problems. I also use various brands of freeze dried raw. I measure portions very carefully and check all foods for calorie content. I chop & steam fresh veggies for every meal and use sardines and mackerel alternating just as an added little topper. My dog is a mixed breed medium sized girl. Usually stays at around 38 lbs.. I weigh her every other month or so…and she seldom fluctuates. It’s all in how they’re fed….
As a new mom dog … wondering what brand of freeze dried raw you feed your dog? What’s is that? I just know the kibbles and raw, I also make gently cooked meals for my pup thank you
My question with feeding kibble is: what dog really wants to eat the same dry food every day. Dogs need variety, just like people do. Have you seen how they make kibble? Yes some kibble maybe better than others, no doubt, my dog's health improved greatly when I stopped dry food and fed raw.
My boys have VERY sensitive stomachs and the one that works for us is acana wholesome grains sea to stream. I hope it is descent since it is almost $90 for a 22lb bag. Two 100 lb dogs lasts about 2 weeks.
Switched my 3 yorkies to open farm in July and havent looked back! They are 10, 9 and 5 ... They love it, get excited for their 2x a meal per day unlike other foods. We use to feed them Hills Science and they were very hit or miss with the food where we needed to usually top it off with other things.
I feed Victor Classic all stage life. I have raised, trained, and bred German Shepherds since 2010 and Dobermans since 2017. All dogs are healthy, good digestive, pass all health testing ( OFA hip/elbows,heart,eyes,thyroid) and pass embarks. Good weights! Coats are beautiful. And very cost efficient!
I feed Victor Classic as well. I have been feeding that for several years and the dogs are doing great on it. I did my research and thought Victor was a really good food...until I saw this video. These dog foods put it to shame, but their price tag is at least twice as high as Victor. I supplement (my older dog especially) with The Farmer's Dog food.
What did you feed fall of 2023 when Victor had a massive recall of all their products? The original owner of Victor sold the company 3-4 years ago and started his own new company. The formulas he has are back to the original formulas he started the company with.
@WorkingKNeun I don't remember what I fed my dogs then. I think there were some flavors/formulas that weren't affected. Good dog foods always go to heck when they are purchased by larger companies. I've stopped feeding my dogs many dog foods because of that. The new owners say they haven't changed anything, but my dogs stop eating it so they tell me a different story. I trust my dogs A LOT more than any company.
I personally think you should have included Lotus dog food. I have a small, senior dog that I thought was going to need to be on a renal diet. Kidney ultrasound & kidney bloodwork values weren’t great. Thanks to Lotus senior dog food her bloodwork is now perfect.
Earthbound Unrefined is what my daughter wanted her Aussie to use. I was disappointed in what I saw a year ago, but their packaging and content have improved over the last year. I'm open to changing brands, but we have had no health issues with our dog after 7 years.
Thank you so much for such a great review , I have been feeding Carna4 chicken to my dog for 3 years , 8 months ago he seemed a little bored so I added some Nature’s Logic Sardine kibbles to his feeding . He loved the mixe of both , 2 weeks ago he vomited as I ran out of Carna4 he had Nature’s Logic Sardine kibbles fed for 3 days , so now I am returning the sardine and I will only feed him the Carna4 I agree it is the best food on the market . I contacted the company and made a complaint about what happened , feeding your dog the best food you can afford is so important , I feel super guilty to have fed him some food that might have made him sick . I remember years ago I purchased open farm but my dog didn’t want to eat the food sometimes it’s tricky you want your dog to eat the best food possible and your dog might not even like it . Carna4 is expensive I don’t eat out and buy expensive Starbucks coffee so I can afford feeding my baby the best . If we could only taste what our dog eats we would not hesitate to feed them good food , I can only imagine how much crap is out there ! Thank you
We have a pure-bred Black Lab (5yo) and a Golden Retriever/Collie (2.5yo) mix. We started and fed the Lab on Orijen and she thrived on it. Then the "Gollie" entered the picture and over the first year raising the Gollie we used Orijen puppy food. Then Orijen started the jack the price of the food sky-high. It went from $59 for a 23lb bag to $103 a bag. So we did some research and found Stella and Chewy. We use the one referenced here at #5 - the Red Meat version. It has the most Protein and many dogs have allergies to Chicken. So, as far as kibble goes, so far, this is the best we've found for the $. It's $83 for a 23lb bag, and we are on the Petco food program and it nets us a savings of about $10 a bag over time. The more you buy, you earn coupons and free bags of food. We also buy Acana canned food and split a can between them each day for the dinner feeding. Having two larger breeds 55 and 65lb respectively, is not cheap, we've found the Stella&Chewy + Acana canned food mix works for our dogs exceptionally well. Incredibly shiny coats, both healthy and very active with no medical issues. We've been using the Stella and Acana blend for almost 2 years. IMHO #5 should be #1 or 2 just based on the protein content of the food. Dogs are protein machines.
I changed from Stella and Chewy when the price went up $20 more for the larger bag. A friend introduced me to a Pure Balance Beef and Bison food that the first 6 ingredients are strong competition for the expensive brands. I add fresh veggies and Front of the Pack to supplement. My Corso's love it, digestion great, coats shiny, no allergies.
The amount of protein in your dogs kibble depends upon activity. You have to think about how much activity your dog participates in. If you have a working border collie clearly 26% protein is not enough for that dog. However, if you have a Chihuahua that sleeps all day and just cuddles, 26% protein is gonna be fine for them. So think about the activity of your dog when looking at protein. I have a Papillion Pomeranian cross, I cook for my dog, and he gets a little bit of a fish based kibble about a handful every day, he is highly allergic to turkey and has a sensitivity to chicken. So he has special needs.
I fed my German Shephards a raw food called B.A.R.F. mixed with Stella and Chewys, and a TBSP of beef tallow. For some reason their coats didn't look as good this year as in the past, so I'm going back to 100% BARF. Never heard of Carna4. Chewy's doesn't seem to carry it, but at that price point, I probably wouldn't be saving any money.
I've been feeding our Lab Sadie Open Farm grain free and at the price they charge I don't get the meal meats they use. Carna4 is truly a food for the wealthy. I'm scared 🥺 of Orijen and Acana since Mars bought it.
I just did sone research on Nutro and found they were purchased by Mars Inc around 2007 (iirc). I was feeding my dog American Journey Salmon kibble for a year or two and he did really great on that. 7 yrs old around that time, and this was when American Journey was being sold at PetSmart still. Without warning, American Journey was removed from PetSmart stores and sold exclusively on Chewy. So, we switched him to Simply Nourish Limited Ingredient Salmon & Sweet Potatoes for several years, which he seemed to do okay on. But the food quality progressively worsened and he began vomiting once every 2 weeks or so. Decided to switch him to Simply Nourish Limited Ingredient Lamb (& ???). Continued getting sick, and I realized there were pieces of CAT FOOD in the bag. From there, switched him to Taste of the Wild (Stream something or other, grain free). Which was only at PetCo. He was still pretty active, but seemed to be getting sick again every so often. Finally decided to 'upgrade' to Nutro Limited Ingredient Salmon & Lentils (not realizing they had switched their food composition from sweet potatoes to lentils until just now, 4 months on this food). Since my brother settled on this with his dog, as she had allergies with several dry foods. My dog did great on the first few bags. But recently he got really sick for 4 days. He's 13 yrs old now. Getting into those scary, worrisome years... I cleaned out his bowls and his toys thinking maybe that was the issue, but just now realized that when all this started was when I opened this new bag of food! I figured surely Nutro, being a reputable high dollar brand, recommended to me by veterinarians and dog trainers in the past, would be good quality. Now I'm not so sure. Of course, my dog is 13 now, so really no telling what the actual cause may be without some significant veterinary workups... But knowing they're owned by Mars, Inc. doesn't give me much comfort. Back to the drawing board...
I think all this kibble is more expensive than making the food myself 😮. But I’d like to have a bag of good dry food for when I run out of fresh. Not sure which one to buy.
I feed Acana Wild Atlantic. It is 70% protein, 30% vegetables, fruit, botanicals and nutrients. It's about $4.20 per pound. I feed about half dry and half homemade. I lightly cook the ground turkey, beef liver and chicken hearts. I don't cook the eggs, green vegetables or carrots, but I add a little brown rice, sweet potato and pinto beans. The recipe also includes blueberries, pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, kelp, food grade bone meal, red bell peppers, turmeric and black pepper. Most is organic, except the meats/poultry, but it is human grade.
I feed my frenchie Carna4 lamb. I supplement with pieces of lamb I gently cook. It's not easy to find Carna4. Only one pet place in Boise sells it. However, you can find it online.
I’m a fan of Horizon Taiga Pork diet(either grain free or with grains, they make both options). No allergens in it for my dog(no sneaky chicken and egg). The ingredients seem decent to me and they say they bake it instead of extruding. I just wish they used a fish oil instead of canola oil.
What would be your review of Ziwi Peak? They make air dried and freeze dried raw. It is excellent. And K9 Naturals is also out of New Zealand but it’s all freeze dried
Though your video was informative, I'll stick with Farmina. Their quality is better than Open Farm as evident in their lower levels of Calcium and Phosphorus. Carna4 is the best, I do agree. I guess we have to pay for quality. I used Carna4 as a training treat.
I have a senior dog with low activity and working on losing weight. Is there any recommendations on what I should look out for in the ingredients or brands I should consider? Don’t think these high protein ones would work. Thank you!
Fromm s is the best I've found. Sometimes it's difficult to get bmewhere i live now. I've also heard from various sources, grain free isn't a good thing
I also feed all of my dogs Fromm’s. I’ve been using it for 15yrs. In all of my research usually around 20-25% protein is more than sufficient and there are no added benefits to excess protein and doesn’t need to exceed 30%. So for me, there was an unnecessary over emphasis placed on kibbles with really high protein levels in this video.
I was surprised to see food that was not soaked in water for almost 8 hours. After that, I make own food , steamed or boiled it at a low temperature. After eating like this, my obesity and constipation disappeared and he got a lot of muscles in legs (I was overweight and was overweighted) chicken breast, chicken heart, liver, and fresh vegetables, omega-3 oil joint nutrition, and organic flax seeds are ground every day. ( one teaspoon) A little snack and fruit (apple and burberry)
Curious to know your thoughts on the new Open Farm air dried "kibble". Also I wish every Carna4 option didn't have eggs, my dog can't have chicken eggs, though hasn't had any issues with Quail eggs....
I have been feeding primal raw freeze dried kibble. They are the only thing my older dog with no teeth can crunch up. She loves it! The other dog is getting used to it.😂. It has a lower fat content than any of the ones you listed. Important since dogs don’t need the higher fat content . Especially if they’ve had pancreatitis or their breed is prone to it!
Where are these price per lbs coming from? 3.5lb open farm is $29 at my local store. ~ $8.29 per lb. Carna4 2lb bag almost $40. Also, for open farm any recommendation grain free version or ancient grains?
Red Barn Calcium is very high its high in bone?? I have a BIG QUESTION?? kibble ingredients are cooked & cooked at such high temps then all the ingredients lose their nutritional value why kibble is brown, so it wouldnt really matter about organic sprout seeds etc etc??
My dog is fed Carna4 for approx 1 year. The protein source is Vemison. I switched her from Open Farm wild caught salmon. How often should I switch proteins and brands? I don’t mind keeping her on a portion of kibble. As long as I am comfortable with the ingredients. She is a 38-40lb dog. She also gets Dr Marty alternating recipes. Her food is well saturated with Open Farm bone broth. She gets sardines and mackeral on alternating. She also gets carrots, broccoli, sweet potato daily both meals, steamed. I believe you suggested alternating kibble brands and protein sources. Can you recommend a kibble brand for her and what is a good source of protein..she is sensitive to chicken possibly. She is fed twice a day and gets freeze dried chicken hearts for treats. Is Steve’s Real Food a better choice than Dr Marty;s. Both are freeze dried. Thank you ❤
I'm so confused. I thought we were supposed to avoid peas (legumes) because they block taurine. Originally they blamed grainfree food for causing cardiac myopothy, but upon further studies, peas were the issue?
No one really knows anything. If things like this “cause” DCM, how do they explain the millions of dogs that eat it their whole lives and don’t have DCM?
They are looking at everything in total to help owners find the best kibble they can find on the market right now. He did state that none of them are perfect re: some of the ingredients. I’d like to also say Primal Kibble In the Raw also.
The reality is they still don’t know what caused DCM. Experts in our life feel like it’s not one ingredient or another, and rather dogs eating a large amount of “species-inappropriate” foods. This is one of the main reasons we look for dog food with a large amount of meat with organ meat in it ❤️
I am currently making my own homemade dog food...with much of the same ingredients as your number one kibble here....do you think dogs need kibble at all? Or am I ok with just the homemade food...
Make your own, i have newfoundlands u can buy your own vegs, sweet potatoes and beef or chicken and it will come out less than a $1 pd. U need to add the vitamins & prebiotics if u believe in them(vegs are high in vitamins also). U have no stomach problems, no itchy skin, very few ear infections. And u really know what your feeding your fur babies. Instead of believing the crap that wrote on those bags. Ive had newfoundlands since 1991 my oldest was 14 yrs 7 months. My 2 now are 5 & 6 yrs old. So far, very health. And they enjoy eating.
@JonDarntDouchit-i8w Thank you, I'm not 100% sure if you are saying to cut out vegetables, their protein is cooked and between 40 To 50 %. These are Newfies so 4 to 6 cups a day. They are great at telling me when they want to eat. I have been doing the same foods since 1991, small variety when 1 dog likes tomatoes and one likes sweet potatoes. The meat is the same meat I eat, minus organ meat.
@JonDarntDouchit-i8wexcept plants have hundreds of other compounds that are specific to plants that are extremely beneficial, many being cancer fighting. Eating plants goes far beyond simply vits/minerals.
I used to use Sundays for dogs but it got to the last bag I ordered was $83 for 40 oz. That’s too much for me to pay. If you get the book forever dog by dr Karen Becker you will learn a lot about food for dogs. In the book it says ‘meal’ is any part of the meat that is all mixed together and mixed for consumption then added to the food but titled as the meat. Human grade is a good title but it can be disguising the ingredients. Dogs don’t need very much carbohydrates because it’s hard for the dogs to digest completely thereby effects the pets organs greatly. A lot of carbs over time can eventually cause pancreatitis. Rice and grain is not good for the dogs to digest either but it’s used as a filler also. Learned all this from the book forever dog…there’s a lot more as to where dog food originated also and on how we domesticated the dog.
@ I feed a raw called vitals. They have turkey chicken and beef. I want to find an affordable healthy kibble to use as a topper with the vitals but so many of them are expensive and you have to get a subscription.
@ I feel so confused and so overwhelmed with all of the research about role and about kibble it’s almost like you have no idea what to feed your dog. I have two fairly large rescue dogs. We are struggling financially. My husband thinks the dogs eat better than we do, but I’m trying to find a balance with some kibble and raw.
Certain breeds need lower protein. Mastiff breeds for instance protein should be 26 or slightly less. This is because you want slow growth because the rate they grow on high protein. Honest Kitchen is not a good alternative. It gets +30% of it's calories from Carbohydrates. Anything over 10% is concerning. Where did you learn dog nutrition?
My dogs was on Carna4 however it was giving issues to one of my dogs, who is one years old, he started to get crystals in his urine and was urinating everywhere. I've switched him to the regular Open Farm kibble to see if this will help.
Right because most people that have more than a couple of pups can really afford these. You really should do your research. Any food with legumes can cause nutritionally-related cardiomyopathy. That includes peas, pea protein, lentils, chick peas, etc. The legumes are often used in grain-free foods and treats but I’ve seen them in grain-inclusive foods as well. I know this because I ran a rescue for 14 years and after using a holistic grain-free food, TWO of my pups ended up with cardiomyopathy. Both are on expensive heart meds and have to get very expensive heart exams every year. Talk to a Veterinary Cardiologist and they will tell you. The dog food industry continues to try to swipe it under a rug.
I encourage you to get up to date on this topic, as your information seems quite old. They still don’t know what causes DCM, and it’s not as simple as one group of foods. Let’s not spread that misinformation further
For $2/lb you can make fresh dog food -- chicken breast, beef bone with marrow, fish oil , rice, sweet potatoes, eggs, spinach, and bone broth. Add dog multi- vitamin powder. My dogs love it and are doing great. I feel good feeding them food I'd eat -- with a little salt and hot sauce 😊
Sweet potatoes themselves are close to $2 a pound where i live and chicken breast is close to $5.99 a pound on sale.Depends on where you live as to what it is gonna cost. Even buying marked down meats and veg the cheapest i can make my own food is just over $3 a pound.
I have a 3yr cane corso who needs weight to thin what do u suggest please I never get strai&hr answer can't be all raw diet open for suggestions please
I am no expert by any means, and can't offer a particular brand - as I'm on a search for a new brand myself. But I would think of recommending proteins like salmon or lamb to help reduce weight. They both have a somewhat reduced allergy risk as well.
What about Badlands or Dr. M artys ???? Or have i been suckere.i use one for trauning treats and badlands for generous topper. I also give gently cooked egg, bone broth and a kibble that is perscription from Hills( there was allgery lroblem and this combo is working to keep my shelties hair growing beautifully))
I feed my 3 minature schnauzers Ziwi Peak kibble and canned. It is very expensive and I think it cost more than the carna4 and also great ingredients. I buy it from Chewy or it can be purchased directly from their site.
I only leave dry kibble down in case something happens to me. I live alone with 2big GSD girls. I buy them Diamond naturals. Their meals twice a day are meat, carrots and dried cranberries and of course healthy treats as well. Their poops are huge and together so they are eating healthy 😂
Would adding some Carna4 to my dogs current kibble be beneficial? I can’t afford to feed it on its own but maybe if I added some to my dogs sensitive skin & stomach hills kibble?
I feed this as well. My husband and I have talked personally with Burt Ward on his cell about the food etc. I am hooked up to a Patreon group that the lady that runs it is a remote viewer and I have asked if this dog food was ok to feed my kids (dogs) cuz she knows they are my life and her response was yes it is safe.
I have had dogs all my my life and about 8 years ago.The grain free kibble was hype and got on board vecaues it was said it was the best way, now, my baby is 11 and he got a physical like every year, now he has a heart murmur. Not sure what level but it could be because of grain free food. I always felt it was the best now. I hear grain fee foods do cause heart problems. About a month or two, I got off the grain free dry food. (Dr orders) Now I am on board with Royal Canin. I know a lot of reviews have been said It's overprised, but I still have it been using it, and so far, my baby is doing good after a slow transition of foods. I'm a parent who does not look at my dog as a dog but as my child. He is 11 as of now.I've been taking care of them always. I was just wondering what people feel about grain free foods theses day's. My dog is proof that he has heart murmurs. And the doctor said it could be from using grain free foods all these years. I'm planning to get an echo ❤ check-up to see what level of heart murmur my baby has. Level 1-5, the lower the # the better. My babies Dr. Said, he might be a 2, but the eco check-up should tell more. 🎉
Id be curious too. My dogs were on nature’s logic but ever since they changed the ingredients recently, they’ve been having runnier and more frequent poo and the amount of poo was concerning so i switched to a different kibble. It’s too bad because i really liked NL..😢

I’ve been feeding my pup zignature since day 1. For the price and for the nutritional value, i think it’s a steal! Shes very lean and the vet says she’s looking good!
I was so pleased to see your #1 kibble of 2025. This is what I feed my two babies... thank you for the reassurance!
Great food!
Very good comparison! I have fed, conditioned, raised and shown dogs for 45 years. I have also been a devoted student of canine nutrition. Carna4 fell off my radar for a while, and I am so delighted to be reminded of this quality product. Feeding a high quality “base” kibble, with cleanly raised and processed meats is the best I have come up with in all these years.
me with no dog: interesting.
lol
😂😂
Lmaooo
Best comment ever!
I want to feed my street dog 😅. If I am going to buy her food at least let me buy her at least a little better quality food.
I’m curious about some of the newer dog food brands… at least new to me, like Sundays, Farmer’s Dog, Nom Nom, etc.
What a great video! We share your enthusiasm for Carna4 because we have been feeding our dogs Carna4 for years and they are thriving beyond expectations. Not one food related health issue in any of our four dogs. Very happy to see our choice verified by The BK Pets. Thank you.
Love! ❤️
N&D by Farmina. Made in Italy. My young shepherd loves it! This was recommended by my vet.
You don’t hear many videos on Farmina but I switched my girls from Hills “Prescription diet” to Farmina & it was the best decision
My golden retriever hates eatinf N&D had to go back to eukanuba.
N&D Farmina saved my dogs life! I have my dogs and cats on it..
N&D Farmina all the way. My dog loves it!
Farmina is the only kibble my Shih Tzu will eat and never get sick of.
The other brands made him throw up.
Carna4 has always been the best dog (and cat) food "kibble" for years now.
I feed Raw with added Dr. Harvey's. But I got family and friends to jump on Carna4 and its been amazing tor them.
I work at a vet clinic and recommended carna4 for a while until I got in trouble for not recommending the standard Purina, Science Diet, Royal Canin brands :/
I still secretly sneak the Carna4 in there, though at the end of the appointments during checkout lolol.
Amazing freeze dried food that is.
Vets always recommending crap foods
Yea but its so expensive for most people. $165 for a 22lb is jist criminal.
this is literally my entire top 5 that i recommend to my clients 👏 great video!
best food for dogs, cats, and humans is meat & fish!
my cats get chicken liver, beef liver , and salmon, my dog gets chuck roast, pork belly, chicken liver, beef liver , and salmon.
Mine get about the same but I also throw whatever veggies that I am eating which is usually spinach, carrots or broccoli. They also get treats such as sliced apple, blueberries, and raw meat bones.
YES!! my dogs also love cottage cheese!
Our favorite is Annamaet dog foods from puppy through adulthood. Our dogs develop beautiful on this food.
I wonder how many people can afford to spend close to 300 dollars a month on dog food for two med. sized dogs.
You're dogs are worth it...
our dog is possibly allergic to protein, we just got him, but we think that he had diarrhea for months and was really thin, probably 25lbs underweight I have to feed him z/d from the vet, it's very expensive, but he is doing much better now and gaining weight, he couldn't even eat pro plan for sensitive stomachs which is our main dog food, people should ask a veterinarian before using a food ,there is a lot about it that is critical to a dogs health
Could you do a video about the best affordable kibble? All these options are kinda pricy, what about the middle ground kibbles like diamond naturals or purina?
100% agree
Unfortunately the affordable kibble are really bad…like crazy bad….not worth it. The amount you save on affordable food, you’ll just end up spending it on your dog’s medical bills caused by poor quality food. I use open farm for my dog, to make it more affordable, I mix it with toppers such as sardines, frozen blueberries, etc from Aldi or wholesale stores like Sam’s club or Costco
Never Purina…
@justcallmej.r3088 yeah I'm currently feeding purina pro plan and looking to switch... but still need something at that price range or cheaper
Check out the website Dog Food Advisor. They rate many of the dog foods and explain why the ingredients are good or bad.
My dog stopped eating arcana and I’m thankful because that got me onto carna4
I feed Acana Wild Atlantic with some homemade and my dog absolutely LOVES the Acana!
I gave my doggies Orijen and they loved it !
I'm feeding my pup Victor as well.
Víctor is trash food man
I personally think you should have included Lotus dog food. I have a small, senior dog that I thought was going to need to be on a renal diet. Kidney ultrasound & kidney bloodwork values weren’t great. Thanks to Lotus senior dog food her bloodwork is now perfect.
Natural Balance was the only brand that saved my rottie pup who had some serious digestive issues.
Exactly ! Same if you have a senior with no teeth or a dog with kidney problems ... It's not just black and white
Do you by any chance evaluate European brands? I feed my dogs Edgard and Cooper food. What do you think about them?
This info is invaluable to me…. Thank you soooo much for this Information. God bless you. Merry Christmas
I've been feeding our Lab Sadie Open Farm grain free and at the price they charge I don't get the meal meats they use. Carna4 is truly a food for the wealthy. I'm scared 🥺 of Orijen and Acana since Mars bought it.
Should I be scared ? My dog eat Orijen Small breed 😮 what is « Mars » ?
I'm trying acana for our puppy I am hesistant also but we'll see how it goes..
Love Carna4! I supplement with Rawbble to up the protein/meat content but use Carna4 as the base.
Sounds like a great combo!
Glad to see Carna4 as the #1 in the list! My little boy gets Carna4 for training and Farmer's Dog for his actual food.
Orijen definitely would've been higher on this list if it wasn't bought by mars
I think all this kibble is more expensive than making the food myself 😮. But I’d like to have a bag of good dry food for when I run out of fresh. Not sure which one to buy.
Only 2 of the Carna4 formulas have rice. The others (Duck, Venison, goat and fish) don’t. (This is for viewers , as I’m sure you already know this. 😊)
Yes! All these kibbles come in different proteins with different carbohydrate sources ☺️
Pumpkin seeds are a great dewormer
@@sarashepard7504 That is interesting. I didn't know that.
I feed my frenchie Carna4 lamb. I supplement with pieces of lamb I gently cook. It's not easy to find Carna4. Only one pet place in Boise sells it. However, you can find it online.
So, "Kibble & Bits" is bad? 😜 How often should dogs eat kibble vs any type of add-ons such as rice and hamburger?
I’m a fan of Horizon Taiga Pork diet(either grain free or with grains, they make both options). No allergens in it for my dog(no sneaky chicken and egg). The ingredients seem decent to me and they say they bake it instead of extruding. I just wish they used a fish oil instead of canola oil.
How about for our senior babies? I thought they shouldn't have such high protein in order to help the longevity of their kidneys.
They aren’t supposed too. I fed my dog unknowingly a high protein and it being grain free, he had kidney failure last days of his life 😢
I recommend you doc rea and the pet puzzle guy videos for information for your senior
What would be your review of Ziwi Peak? They make air dried and freeze dried raw. It is excellent. And K9 Naturals is also out of New Zealand but it’s all freeze dried
Sunday's hands down the beef. My dog loves it. It's spendy but so good and worth every penny.
Is this kibble?
Though your video was informative, I'll stick with Farmina. Their quality is better than Open Farm as evident in their lower levels of Calcium and Phosphorus. Carna4 is the best, I do agree. I guess we have to pay for quality. I used Carna4 as a training treat.
Thank you! Excellent video!
Thank you! :)
I have been using Carna4 for my dog. Great food!
I saw online a canine nutritionist stated peas cause heart problems in dogs. Is this true?
Thank you so much.
❤️❤️❤️
How do you feel about Fromm? The gold line with grains?
Thanks for the video ❤🐾
I also use Fromm and am very happy with it
I fed carna4 for a while but no more. 1 it’s expensive for 2 large breed dogs 2 my Lab started to refuse eating it. That was it for me…
Can you talk about puppy recommendations? Or if even. Puppy recommended foods are necessary
i Second this! 😊
I currently feed my 5 month medium golden doodle carna4!
After eating like this, my obesity and constipation disappeared and he got a lot of muscles in legs (I was overweight and was overweighted)
chicken breast, chicken heart, liver, and fresh vegetables, omega-3 oil joint nutrition, and organic flax seeds are ground every day. ( one teaspoon)
A little snack and fruit (apple and burberry)
Curious to know your thoughts on the new Open Farm air dried "kibble". Also I wish every Carna4 option didn't have eggs, my dog can't have chicken eggs, though hasn't had any issues with Quail eggs....
What do you think of farmina? I’m thinking of doing farmina ancient grains lamb and blueberry for our golden retriever puppy.
These are great if you can afford to take a second mortgage to feed your dog.
No sht lol. I mean, at this point I probably spend about $400 /mo on food for myself at the grocery store. And I live alone!
Is Hills Brand any Good?
What is your opinion on Lucy Pet dog food? I've never seen anyone do a review on it. Tnx
What are your thoughts on Sundays dog food?
Interested on your comments on Sundays.
I thought sundays would have made the list for sure
This is one of the main reasons we look for dog food with a large amount of meat with organ meat in it ❤️
We buy freeze dried chicken heart and give them as a treat outside of meals. Not with any other food that can interfere with absorbsion.
Yes my dog got DCM from gain free. Fortunately caught it quickly and was able to save her in 4 months with change in diet and heart meds.
can you please talk about the impact mars has on quality?
Big companies often cut costs where they can but we don't believe this is always the case.
I am currently making my own homemade dog food...with much of the same ingredients as your number one kibble here....do you think dogs need kibble at all? Or am I ok with just the homemade food...
Dogs for sure don’t need kibble as long as you are giving them a fully balanced diet! How do you ensure your food is balanced?
Would be interested to see a video on Primal Kibble in the Raw compared to others
I agree. Nothing better than home prepared food.
How do you balance out what to give them?
@Nikitta43 i base all my food by cooked weight, my dogs won't eat raw. No less than 50% meat. Which includes organ meat.
What do you feed now?
No Froms? Havent they been the leader in kibble for awhile now?
Not for us!
I wish i could purchase some of these kibbles for my senior doggies... alas none of them are available where im from.
Are these okay for small breeds? Most bits of food are too big for my dog to chew.
What do you feel about Ketona?
Would adding some Carna4 to my dogs current kibble be beneficial? I can’t afford to feed it on its own but maybe if I added some to my dogs sensitive skin & stomach hills kibble?
I've fed Gentle Giant for the last 4 years. Would like to hear a critique of it.
@@userKellyK9 My cockapoos/yorkie and shih tzu don't complain.
I wonder if mars changed any of the ingredients in orijin yet after acquiring the company
Can you suggest appropriate options for brands available in Germany? Is Wolfsblut a contender?
What do you think about the Natures Logic Brand? And Canidae Pure Grain Gree Line?
Id be curious too. My dogs were on nature’s logic but ever since they changed the ingredients recently, they’ve been having runnier and more frequent poo and the amount of poo was concerning so i switched to a different kibble. It’s too bad because i really liked NL..😢
Blue Buffalo life protection. It does use chicken meal i believe which is a knock but overall does it do alright???
I tried the stella and chewys kibble but there was something in it that was causing my dog to have soft stool over a month :(
Sorry to hear that! Goes to show that there is no one right food for every dog ❤️
Are these brands sold in the US? I've never even heard of them let alone seen them.
