  • The House Natural Resources Committee held a July 22 hearing supposedly about the social cost of carbon measurement used by the administration to account for the costs of carbon dioxide emissions. It quickly became an excuse for Republicans and their invited witnesses to pretend climate change is a myth. Democrats pointed out that we pay these costs even if we refuse to account for them in our policy decisions. You can learn more at democrats.naturalresources.hou....

I didn't hear any Republican on the Panel "Deny" climate change. In fact, several pointed out that the Climate has been changing for at least 3 billion years. The TRUTH is that, to the extent the Climate is changing, there is nothing humans can do that would make any meaningful difference.

The result: CO2 has increased, the biggest emitters China and India continue to build new coal plants at a rate of one per wk with no end in sight. They’re not worried and with good reason... all the climate models have proven to be grossly overblown, the earth has greened up noticeably over 20 yrs, sea level change is consistent with the past 400 yrs, polar bears are doing well, none of the previous catastrophic predictions have come to bear, hurricane and extreme weather are unchanged. I’m not trying to condescend, but as someone that studied environmental science, as well as Remote Sensing, it’s incredibly difficult to deny climate change. My intro to weather and climate professor took ice core samples, and looked at pollen grains with regards to what plants and trees would grow in certain climate zones, and compared them to the increase in Co2 since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Of course they don’t mention this, because it’s the product of an actual scientist, who studied the same thing for over half her life. Then there’s me, who can barely grasp the complexity of what she proved. Then there’s you, who regurgitates what your team tells you to.

@@pbelancsik For a student of "science" you make a lot of assumptions. FYI, not having a climate science degree does not preclude one from logic. No one denise that climate is changing, it does it all the time and has for all times. You just have zero proof that it is a bad thing.

  • @bruce3102

The fact is, that not one climate model has been even close to being accurate, and it is always TERRIBLY wrong and always only in one direction. Are they really that inept? Or is just possible there is a hidden agenda??
The fact is, climate always changes, so yes there is climate change.
“It was warmer during the Roman Period, a fact that is acknowledged by the IPCC…. It got cooler during the Dark Ages. It then got warmer during the Medieval Period. And then it became much colder until about 1800,”
The fact is, during the warming period prior to 1998 (there has been scant warming since)... *the polar ice caps of mars were melting!* A logical assumption would be that it was due to variations in the sun's intensity... it also warmed us. It is highly likely that mars has too many SUV's.
It's a fact, from about 1950 to 1970 we were also certain that we were headed into an ice age! There was a political agenda with this also.
It is a fact is even though, it is agreed that CO2, can cause a "slight amount" of warming... an examination of world climates shows that in general, temperatures, rise first... Co2 levels followed. Not Co2 rises and temperatures follow. Al Gore and his propaganda machine, simply lie.
The fact is, there is no 97% consensus that climate change is due mostly, or even largely due to man... only a lie that is repeated so often, by so many that those who are too lazy to examine the evidence, simply listen, believe and follow like the pied piper. *Unfortunately, that's about 50% of the world*
    A FEW MORE FACTS...
    I don't want dirty water.
    I don't want dirty air.
I don't want the sea to rise.
I don't want my children and grandchildren to live in a climate decimated future.
If the actual science indicated that my cars would cause that...
I'd burn mine... and maybe even yours too!
But the science does not say that. Only those who don't know better and those who a political or financial interest in propounding this lie.
I also don't want the future of our country to have their economic hands tied behind their back with restrictive, oppressive, economy, job destroying laws that accomplish nothing other than to destroy our place as a world leader of personal and economic freedom!

One more time, temp goes up about 800 years before measurable CO2 increases. Lastly higher CO2 is actually good for the planet and us. Only fools would belive that restoring CO2 to the atmosphere it came from would jeopardize beneficial circumstances for life on earth. Life had 420 ppm before, it had 2000 ppm before and 7000 ppm aswell. It did not have 180 ppm before, which was the case after the last ice age. 150 ppm threatens life, 2000 ppm obviously does not. CO2s absorption potential gets saturated so that the marginal effect gets smaller and smaller like painting a house. It doesn’t get another color after the 4rt layer of paint. Climate alarmism is a replacement religion used by many to their advantage in an echo chamber. The Emperor is naked, nobody dears to get out of line.
It gets slightly warmer but the oceans also get warmer if I pee in the water. The magnitude is not alarming. What is alarming is the medicine. It is worse than the disease. Energy poverty will case starvation for many, especially poor. Doubling CO2 will increase the average temp on earth from 15C to about 16C or 17C and that will have a lot of benificial effects. Changes will be over centuries. Fear should be of the cold, it killes more than heat, even in India.

The fact that CO2 can slow transmission of heat from the surface of the earth to outer space is not in dispute. The issue is whether this effect can be catastrophic or not. Since CO2 makes up just 0.04% of the atmosphere, we have to ask how such a miniscule proportion of the atmosphere can have an effect that is even measurable much less catastrophic. The IPCC reports do not explain that. See what Michael Crichton said about this.

The current version of NASA's temperature data sets started back in, iirc, 2011.
Key things to note about it:
      1. No "raw" data is presented in the new data set. Only the data that has been fed through an unspecified algorithm. When you plot the data set, you'll obtain a +1°C overall temperature increase between 1900 and 2011.
      2. When you look at the *_raw_* data from the previous version of the data set you are NOT going to find an overall rising trend between 1900 and 2011.
Of course, you'll notice shorter trends, such as temperature falling down between 1940s and 1970s (though if you're to check particular area years may be shifted by up to a decade, such as 1950s-1980s) or warming since 1970 and today, but, as I mentioned, the overall trend is close to zero and you'd need to obtain it mathematically, because it's imperceptible otherwise (unless you have a really large screen to put the graph on, but I was unable to see it at a 29" monitor).
Claims such as "2014 is the hottest year on record" are only true when you use the algorithm'd data set.
And, well, even if you use them, in my country for example, the hottest year on record is still 1935 or something around that date... and the coldest one is from 1970s, so... Yeah

reducing carbon is unnecessary as well as impossible. CO2 is not a polluant.
Let me put it in my words, sharing 30 years of observation in the real world and dedication to common sense:
TIME and PROPORTIONS are the two key factors, which deliberately seem marked out, this time and in any kind of organised and imposed fanatical belief, aka agenda.
In general, same as in real life, there is no urgency and it's ok as it is.
There are two major aspects of existence, which we absolutely need to consider simultaneously. Big mistake, if we don't.
    1. Nature (and its climate) is simple.
    2. Trying to understand Nature ( its climate and weather) is phenomenonly complex, climate is following a chaotic pattern. Reliable predictions are impossible.
    My conclusion:
Science is wrong by taking things apart, instead of looking at Nature in the long run and as a whole.
Nature is in a constant state of change with the aim to keep the system balanced. It's capacity to "do" that is unlimited. Time doesn't matter. It's been doing it for billions of years. Eternally.
Humanity and science are wrong in thinking, that we could "do it" , god or bad. Our influence on this system is ZERO, NADA, NIENTE. Not now, not as a consequence for the future.
Having said that, doesn't mean we shouldn't care about nature and the environment. Of course we have to, but first understand basics, then respect time and proportions.
There is no causality, CO2 does not have the alledged effect, it's the other way round. In a natural cycle, it's warmer and therefore we measure higher CO2 ppm counts in the atmosphere.
Inevitably, a cooler period will follow, consequently CO2 ppm counts will go lower. Then maybe science would rightly conclude: CO2 is a tracer, not a polluant.
Temperatures vary slightly, so is CO2 ... this is a correlation, scientifically mistaken as causality. Get back to work.

What the hole that is talking about renewables is not being real about is the toxic chemicals and upstream and downstream costs of the so called renewables. Wind turbines do not just use the wind. they use magnets made with toxic chemicals for about 15 years of working life. Before this the toxic chemicals for the new magnets have to mined from the earth, often done by poor underpaid people in dangerous jobs. And where are these turbines coming from? Are they coming from the USA or are they being manufactured in China using Australian coal? How much energy actually goes into making the things, compared to what you get from them? And how are they being disposed of after they come to the end of their useful life? I understand that many of them are ending up in landfill or just left in places to let those toxic chemicals leach out. The same is true for many of the batteries we have - made in China using coal energy and containing toxic elements and then there is no adequate recycling for many of them.
The renewables should really be taxed more than the fossil fuels because of all these extra toxic substances they have in addition to all the CO2 produced in China etc to make them in the first place.
