Absolute best review on this mic system. Glad to see someone review it that has a little idea of how it is suppose to work. I plan on getting another lapel mic, better quality one to also see if that helps audio performance. I just picked one up on eBay, and so happy that you showed I can get a stereo adapter to go from single mono, to dual stereo. Thanks so much for your video.
Damn! I've always thought we have to record the audio separately, and then edit the audio and the video in a video software. I didn't know about the transmitter and the receiver system! Awesome! Gotta invest on those then, thank you,!
This Does to Compute, I left a question 4 months ago and never heard back from you. I am serious about my question and had hope to hear back from you. Kip Cosson
Thank you so much for this helpful review. I have been looking for something like this for my channel as I am planning to do more interviews and my last interview had poor audio since I was only using the built-in microphone for my camcorder. Thanks for doing the distance / range test. That part was extremely helpful!
-hello, but can I have a question? practicly I cannot use my microphones that work on the range 850-930 MHz cause there is always some interference, which is not a miracle, we know that mobile phones companies also use this range. And you know, not even outr 99 channels are enough to find just one free, so my question is: with the 3 channels can you still use it with no interference? I would be wondering but ok, I am curious. thx
Dude! This was awesome! I am a techno nonce and everything you said was clear and made sense without all the techhie speak. I found this so easy to follow and your instructions very well delivered. Thank you so very much for taking the time to review this! It has been an amazing help! Mwa!!!!
Dennis, looks like you might have replies disabled. As for substituting a better lav mic for improved sound...I'd say it really depends on what you're looking for. Could you get audio with a different EQ that way (e.g. brighter high end)? Probably. But there's still going to be limited definition to the sound simply due to the wireless circuitry...as a test, I connected an MP3 player to the transmitter's input and monitored the receiver's output. Let's just say, this setup is 1) tailored for speech, and 2) built down to a price point. Hope that helps!
Thx for the video. I have the sony wireless mic and thanks for your tip on the 3.5mm audio adapter I got one on ebay and now I can get both left and right speaker sounds.
Thanks. I've (periodically) searched online for why my video camera or sony lavalier only records on one side and was never before able to learn why. Appreciate your advice here. Cheers.
I am constantly getting popping and noise using this system....i have turned all the levels low, but i still get them...when the sound comes through it sounds good, but the pops are terrible. any suggestions?
Most cameras will record stereo sound so we will take advantage of that: 2 microphones (one for each person) 2 transmitters (mono) 2 receivers (mono) Find a stereo splitter to plug into your camera's audio input For the person on the left side of your video image, plug the receiver for their microphone into the Left channel of the splitter Do the same for the person on the right side of your video but plug their receiver into the Right channel of the splitter It really is as simple as that. Excellent review. Do you think upgrading the microphone to a say a Rode lapel would improve the quality of the audio captured? Have you tried using different lapel mics with better results?
I have a life size children's doll that I use at my street fairs in NYC. It looks so really that it stops peoples in their tracks, or kids come up and talk or look at her. I want to put a small possible wireless speaker behind her and talk to people as they come up to her. Do you think the WCS-999 would work? I have to also get a speaker to plug it into? Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kip
I would suggest you get a headset to plug into the transmitter so the microphone is right next to your lips. Also get a dead cat for the mic to cut out wind sounds. Buy an inexpensive battery powered speaker that has an input port. Run a wire from the receiver to the speaker and you should be good to go.
It includes an omnidirectional mic, which, as its name implies, picks up sounds from all directions. If you're in a noisy environment, it will all be picked up. To reduce surrounding noise, look for what's known as a cardioid mic, which has a more directional pickup pattern.
For a noisy environment, you can also use a Shotgun Microphone (very directional). I own two that I purchased for about US $25 each from eBay sellers. Also be sure to spend a little bit more money on a windscreen (dead cat) for each microphone to cut out any wind noise.
Hi My uncle is hard of hearing. He wants somekind of headphone set up (normal size headphones, they dont need to be inconspicous) which will then pick up a wireless mike like you are describing. What do you suggest for this? Thanks in advance Cheers John
The only thing is you do NOT need it to go really far. I went the way of buying an XLR audio recorder, but sometimes wish I got the wireless. I thought wireless cost a lot, but I was wrong. Also new sony cameras like the a5100 and a6000 have no audio input. Double system recording can give better audio quality, but can be more work.
Wireless mic range really depends on what kind of video you're shooting. If it's just talking head in front of the camera stuff, then yeah a working range of 20 feet is all that's necessary. If you ever need to mic a presenter, though, and have the receiver on a camera in the back of the audience, then additional range is necessary. I've had to do shoots where I've exceeded the range of the WCS-999 and had to move the receiver to a second camera closer to the presenter.
now i'm getting my first microphone system, and not 100% sure about how everything works. Do certain microphone systems only work with certain cameras, or how does that work? like specifically with this microphone system, will it work with any camera? or which ones?
Chances are, the Rode mic requires either a different type of bias power, or true phantom power in order to operate. I've heard of others with the WCS-999 system having good luck with other Sony or Olympus mics, and I was able to get an Audio-Technica ATR3350 working as well (likely because it has its own preamp).
Yes, with a splitter for the input. Then you could plug two microphones into the one mono input. But, of course, you will have no control of the audio signal for each microphone.
Yes. Most video cameras have the capability of recording a Left and a Right audio track. Get 2 sets of these then plug each receiver into either the Left or Right Input channels.
I've searched the net for information about hidden microphones. covert . from neighbouring dwellings etc. and I can't find any information. just stuff like this... do you think info on how cops etc get audio from inside your house is pulled from the net. people must have uploaded something about how the cops listen in on you...
I haven't tested it yet, but I suspect if you used a splitter like this, it would probably work: www.amazon.com/Extrasensory-Devices-ESDHW011-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B006T65CXE/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1422056683&sr=8-10&keywords=iphone+mic+adapter
Yes, I used an R300 when shooting this video; the R500 also has a mic jack. You'll want to pick up one of the mono-to-stereo adapters I linked to in the description.
This Does Not Compute So, I wanna order one now, should i buy used or new? also, not trying to be wierd but can we be friends? I just started my channel....I have not made any video's yet, finding a camera person was hard but i start shooting next week
I bought this set based on your review and some others and the set I got was garbage. The sound quality was great no more than 4 foot from each other. After that the set was unreliable and I had video footage with no audio in some parts. I know some people's units work great but mine didn't. Guys I'm just saying that Sony is not what it use to be.
+DSJ Onphenson Maybe -- it depends on what phone you have. Some have reported luck using a splitter like this: www.amazon.com/Extrasensory-Devices-ESDHW011-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B006T65CXE/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1422056683&sr=8-10&keywords=iphone+mic+adapter
The worst experience I had with these was even if it was at a super close range it's sounds like crap with a whole bunch of hissing.

Thx for your hints pal. I am from Brazil and bought one of those. I couldn'd find any review in Portuguese, so you helped me a lot.
Create one.
thank so much. had no idea the adapter would make it sound so much better. great product for the price..
I don't see the link to the adapter plug.
Thank you so much for this helpful review. hi , nice video. As I am a beginner I didn't understand what means in the minute 1:53...could you please explain me a lit more about this?..thank you
Hello Sir, may I asking about the model of your Canon Video Cam , was working well? Thank you
-hello, but can I have a question? practicly I cannot use my microphones that work on the range 850-930 MHz cause there is always some interference, which is not a miracle, we know that mobile phones companies also use this range. thank you for this, I was also looking at this unit used. The foam sound deadener trick is clever, too, nice.

+This Does Not Compute who much is it
hey any recommendations for audio setup on a go pro hero 4 silver... keeping budget in mind but also begginer level audio
This Does Not Compute is it compatible with a Nikon d7100
This Does Not Compute hi can you tell me where did u get u stand for the Camara?? send me the link.
This Does Not Compute cc
I won't be recommending these as these things drop audio even if it's just 5 feet away.
THAT IS THE EXACT UNIT I HAVE AND I LOVE IT.
KEITH
can you use it without having to plug it into a camera?
I THINK YOU CAN, JUST PLUG IT INTO THE MIC PORT AND GIVE IT A TEST
KEITH KUHN does the audio save right to the camera or do you have to transfer it in a laptop?
I FORGOT TO SAY THE MIC WAS TAPED UNDER MY SHIRT.
THANKS FOR WATCHING
KEITH KUHN
Thx for the video. I have the sony wireless mic and thanks for your tip on the 3.5mm audio adapter I got one on ebay and now I can get both left and right speaker sounds.
Is it good?
Thanks. I've (periodically) searched online for why my video camera or sony lavalier only records on one side and was never before able to learn why. Appreciate your advice here. Cheers.
If you plug a mono device such as a microphone into a stereo input, most likely you are going to record only one track.
I am constantly getting popping and noise using this system....i have turned all the levels low, but i still get them...when the sound comes through it sounds good, but the pops are terrible. any suggestions?
Awesome, fabulously informative and useful video! Thank you!
can you explain more about using 2 mics for dual wireless recording such as an interview
Most cameras will record stereo sound so we will take advantage of that:
2 microphones (one for each person)
2 transmitters (mono)
2 receivers (mono)
Find a stereo splitter to plug into your camera's audio input
For the person on the left side of your video image, plug the receiver for their microphone into the Left channel of the splitter
Do the same for the person on the right side of your video but plug their receiver into the Right channel of the splitter
It really is as simple as that.

Can the receiver be directly connected to speakers for concert like things events?
Excellent review. Do you think upgrading the microphone to a say a Rode lapel would improve the quality of the audio captured? Have you tried using different lapel mics with better results?
hiiii can I ask where did u get the stand to hold your Camara could u send me the link please

This Does Not Compute Thanks so much, I'm illiterate when it comes to things like that, you gave me much needed info.
This Does Not Compute Thanks, I hadn't heard that the first time I watched.
For a noisy environment, you can also use a Shotgun Microphone (very directional).

If you did this test at a park here in Rio de Janeiro, you would be without equipment! lol
Thanks for sharing. That your Canon Camcorder its great?

This Does Not Compute got it, I did some reach and finally pick my mic system.. now I am in search of my video cam. Lol
How much does the camera and the wireless Mike cost? Thanks
I have the same unit, and i tried plugging in a rode lavalier mic, but it wouldn't work. Any ideas?
Chances are, the Rode mic requires either a different type of bias power, or true phantom power in order to operate. Do you know if this would work for your PC, like if you are Skypeing?
Josh Blake why the FUCK would you need a wireless mic for Skype? Jesus just use a blue snowball or a blue yeti
Just get a wireless headset then plug the microphone cord into your computer's Input Port and the speakers into your Output Port.
Thank you for the review! This mike is going to save me a lot of money :)
How to connect Sony WCS microphone to my Sony home theatre(HT-IV300)....?
I looking to get a wireless mic to record conferences. Do you think if I plug this equipment to a computer it will work
Why do you think it would not?
Very nice. Exactly what I need.
I love it how much is it i want to buy it for my channel
how do you use this if your camera doesn't have an audio input jack
MartyChills you can't then
Google: double system sound
Buy a Zoom H1 to record the audio track(s).
Great explanation
whick microphone are you using?
can i connect this directly to speakers, for live audio?
it seems like you could right? I wonder if it would work if you hooked up the Jack to an Aux input on a stereo or any other kind of speakers
but how to connect two microphone? it is possible?
Yes, with a splitter for the input. Then you could plug two microphones into the one mono input.
But, of course, you will have no control of the audio signal for each microphone.
can i use it for canon camera? sir
Спасибо за ролик!
Hi, Which Mic are you using in the start of the video ?
+Neeraj Agarwal I actually used the WCS-999 for all the audio in this video, including the voiceovers. Thanks for watching!
+This Does Not Compute Thanks for letting me know.
Where can I buy this in Toronto, Canada?
Mohamed Yassin I am in Australia and just bought one from eBay. Pretty sure posting to Canada from the U.S will be cheaper too!
Miss B Contrary Will do. Thanks!
Do some homework. What frequencies does the Canadian government reserve for wireless devices that you plan to buy?
I've watched other WCS 999 videos, not as good as they tried. What is the truth? hope you will be answer it.
thank you 💞
Can you plug more than one mic to your cam?
Yes. Most video cameras have the capability of recording a Left and a Right audio track.
Get 2 sets of these then plug each receiver into either the Left or Right Input channels.
that seems to look a lot more like 120ft to be honest. but love the video man! thank you! i bought this at a pawn shop for $5
Good review Brother...will this work on a smartphone?
I never thought off that ya will it
Please name a smartphone that has an external audio input. I can't think of any.
i own sony A5100, does it work in my cam?
RTFM to see what audio inputs you have.
I've searched the net for information about hidden microphones. covert . from neighbouring dwellings etc. and I can't find any information. just stuff like this... do you think info on how cops etc get audio from inside your house is pulled from the net. people must have uploaded something about how the cops listen in on you...

Does your iPhone have an Audio Input port?
IT IS A GREAT UNIT, NO
KIDDING
Very helpful thanks !
This definitely came from the dinosaur age. The DJI Wireless Mic already has LCD displays.
Could you plug it to a iPhone ?
I haven't tested it yet, but I suspect if you used a splitter like this, it would probably work:

Does your iPhone have an audio input for external sound?
Good job
will this fit my vixia HF R500?????!
Yes, I used an R300 when shooting this video; the R500 also has a mic jack. You'll want to pick up one of the mono-to-stereo adapters I linked to in the description.
