Hi, I'm a psychologist who is also Catholic! I agree that mental wellness should be considered among other dimensions, as described in this video. Look up something called the "dimensions of wellness" - it does a good job showing you how everything works together for overall wellness. The one thing I disagree with in this video is that your therapist HAS to be Catholic. Plenty of people in this field are not Catholic but still respect what it means to be someone who believes in God. For the people I work with who are also Catholic, I do have the benefit of understanding their background in that way and for those who are more devout, I can help them navigate the secular world. One does not need an exact match in faith to benefit from therapy. This piece about "rehashing trauma" should not be happening if you are seeing an ethical provider. If someone is being harmed in therapy, we encourage advocating for oneself or finding someone with a different therapeutic style. If someone is rehashing something or trying to help you process it and that isn't your goal for therapy anymore, you need to tell them or find someone who can help you move toward your goals more effectively. During your intake you can also mention that you are Catholic. Things like tarot cards and reiki are not therapeutic tools if they are mentioned. Like we don't learn how to do that in grad school lol. That's a person's own interests coming in to their work, not something part of the field. Meditation wise, I'm not sure what the demonic version of it is....but mindfulness and grounding techniques, which are often tied in with meditation? Lovely strategies that we DO learn about in school. Basically - if you are looking for a good match with a therapist, express your needs for the therapeutic relationship, mention that you are Catholic, and use your sense and intuition. If someone doesn't feel like a match, then move on and you will find the right person eventually.

For non-Catholic psychologist specially online, I find them a red flag because they tend to make let go of my Catholic upbringing by unintentionally or intentionally make me hate the idea on how God allowed me to suffer since we don't share same belief ---it leads to conflict or doubt. So it's highly recommend to find a CATHOLIC Psychologist so that they don't make us discourage living the faith and embrace the concept of redemptive suffering knowing that our faith teaches us we don't suffer for nothing. That part is where I am wounded most by these secular Psychologist.

I really need this rn. I've dealt with depression for years and it's rearing it's head up again. Feeling really sad rn and forgotten about, yet I know others have it much worse than me.

After having bad experiences with secular therapists and not getting anything out of school counselor sessions as a child, I was very reluctant to seek out therapy as an adult. My friend encouraged me to do so, and my stress and anxiety were at the point where I was on a medication for blood pressure. So I took the leap and found a really great Catholic therapist and no longer am on that medication!

    Le Christ est roi.
As I get older winter is getting harder and harder to go through. I'm in Canada, and today is around -20 C, probably a few degrees below that with the windchill. Vitamin D is my go-to as well. But I'm convinced that if I was somewhere sunny and warm from early January to mid to late April, I'd be much happier. I could even temporarily live in a 18 ft travel trailer if i had to.
Granted, going outside, getting exercise, walks in nature definitely help. Fighting back negativity, waves of victimism and despair help tremendously. I used to feed and dwell on that stuff. No más!

Mental health is huge and the stigma needs to stop. I had undiagnosed autism for over 30 years, and it really caused havoc in my life. Luckily, it helped me convert to Catholicism when Catholicism became my autistic special interest.
Care for yourself and advocate for yourself.

I agree with all you said, I was diagnosed at 25 after experiencing psychosis. The early intervention team referred me for diagnosis. As for havoc well I didn't do well as school progressed into the later stages. But I am now studying mathematics with open uni

Awesome! I've been having debates with Protestant/Prebyterians. I get into turmoil that my opinions aren't heard, but I'm influencing them as much as i can as a Catholic. There comes to an eventual reason why to raise a child in a certain environment and prayers, but from my perspective, I try to pray too, and I just want the best for my child. I don't see those people getting the Lex Concordance Analytical Bible to dissect the information themselves. They are all run by the media or are so dependent on the internet. I just choose this way, and I hope my kids will follow. But then again, information is limited, cosnequential, objective or subjective. They'll wonder how they got such a beautiful mom, and I'll just laugh to myself. Haha.

Very interesting, useful and relevant video, thank you!
Unfortunately, life is very complicated, and this complexity is different for everyone.
For example, our city of Sumy is attacked by the Russian army almost every day. The Russian army strikes residential buildings, hospitals, and schools with Shahed drones and missiles, killing and maiming civilians.
The day before yesterday, the Russian army attacked a nine-story residential building with a Shahed drone.
As a result, 10 civilians died, two dozen were injured, and more than 100 people were left homeless.
And that's just what happened last week.
Before that, the Russian army attacked another residential building with a rocket - 12 people died and 89 were injured.
And before that, the occupiers attacked the city hospital. First, the Shaheds hit the hospital directly, killing doctors and patients, and when the rescuers arrived, the Russians attacked again to kill the rescuers.
And on Christmas Day, December 25, the Russian army shelled the entire territory of Ukraine, most cities were left without electricity and heating.
As you can see, the emotional background is negative. But we hold on.
Greetings from Ukraine, which is bleeding, but does not give up!

    Tommaso d’Aquino
As we know, medieval thought is pervaded by Aristotelian philosophy to such an extent that one of the fathers of Scholasticism, Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologiae, manages to demonstrate the unprovable. The existence of God. The axioms from which Aquinas starts are the founding ones of rational thought. Something cannot be true and false at the same time and the evidence of things.
I think we all agree that for every cause there is an effect. So if I put a pen on the table, the movement is due to my fingers taking the pen and moving it. But my hand that performs the operation is in turn the effect of a preceding cause which are the nerves of my hand. We cannot stop here, because the movement of my nerves is the effect of my will to move the pen. You have already understood that I could continue like this, between causes and effects ad infinitum. But if that were the case, logic tells me that I would deny that every cause is followed by an effect. Therefore, there must necessarily be at a certain point a first cause which is an effect only of itself. This supreme cause can only be God himself.

this video is very helpful but I don’t know a clinical therapist that uses reki, stones or demonic meditation. Those are more “holistic” instructors or certificate based teachers that are more involved in that community. They didn’t go to school for the extensive learning you need to help another human through actual therapy. That’s the only part I don’t agree with. Also mediation isn’t bad if your literally just sitting with your thoughts to regulate your emotions 😵‍💫
