Man, thank you so much for sharing this video. I had the same issue with the light switch last year and it was caused by the Master cylinder plunger not working properly so I rebuilt it. So this year the issue came back again but this time it was the switch not working properly. So after watching your video and I sprayed the switch with the contact cleaner and now it's working properly. 🙏
2014 Low Rider - issue started in 2015, had the master cylinder rebuild kit replaced 2017 did not fix, 2 months later replaced front brake switch, still worked intermittenly. now its 2021 and I took apart and pressed the switch in and out and it didnt shut the light off --- assuming bad switch but will try YOUR fix first! Thanks - will let you know it it works. Your problem seems like my problem!
The switch would be affected by moisture most of all. Do you have your bike exposed to the elements? Does the rear brake switch work without issues? Of course there is a chance that the switch may break internally. But it is much more likely that either the brake lever is misaligned in the housing OR, as turned out to be in my case, oxidation. Good luck!
@@UrbanMasterExperiment My bike is stored in my garage. The problem started 1 year after I bought the bike brand new. The rear brake works fine but since the brake light is on now all the time and pushing the front brake lever forward to get it off stopped working I'm not so sure about that. WHat's weird is I replaced the entire taillamp unit, new plug, new bulb and it worked fine and then I came back a few days later and the light was on all the time again. If the brake lever was misaligned then wouldn't exposing the switch and pressing it in with my finger cause the light to go out----in my case it doesn/t and spacing really wouldn't matter when using my finger to depress it all the way.
@@UrbanMasterExperiment My tip is white and intact. But even with the tip missing if I press it in the light should go out and it doesn't. www.rapidroost.com/products/genuine-harley-davidson-brake-switch-pn-71500118-pack-of-1
2017 FXDL bought new in 2019 and now with just under 1000km(600mi) brake light stuck on.Checked bulb then unplugged rear switch and light stayed on so it appears to be front switch issues
You got to wedge a little piece of plastic behind the brake switch in the master cylinder, to push the switch farther out of the hole, so the lever will mate to it better.
Thanks for the video. I tried this a few weeks ago and it worked fine, but now the problem comes back only during day time when there is hot weather. At night no issue at all. If the switch is damaged, can it be replaced or do I need to replace the entire right control unit like my HD dealer tells me?
Yes, the switch can certainly be replaced on the relatively modern models. What year/model is your bike? But honestly I just can't imagine how the day/night temperature wouldn't affect the switch operation. If you were to push the switch with your finger, would the light turn off?
@@UrbanMasterExperiment Fatboy 2012. Even when I push the switch with my finger it doesn't turn the light off. When all this started, I had the same issue as your bike. The if I didn't push the brake handle fully outwards, the light would remain on. Then I cleaned it and applied some grease. During daytime here in Qatar it gets very hot 45 celsius (113 Fahrenheit). I guess something inside must be expanding so much to trigger the light on. At night it drops to half that temperature, so things go back to normal.
Oh, if the grease gets inside the switch, it would certainly stop working. You can try deoxing it again - a lot. If it still doesn't work you can replace it. You can definitely replace the switch by itself. Let me know if you run into any issues. Good luck!
a lot of times the piston in the front master cylinder gets gummed up and doesn't push the brake lever out all the way which keeps the lights on look up delboys garage vid and he explains it perfectly ruclips.net/video/yalHFiEJ0Wc/видео.html
I have the same issue with my 2011 Fatboy. I clean the switch with WD-40 and brake light start working again in the garage, but once I am on the road, brake light gets stuck again! Can the rear brake light switch be also the cause?
Absolutely, the back has a separate switch that could have issues too. Also, I would recommend against using WD40 on any plastics or rubber. Try using a contact cleaner instead. Good luck!
Hi, my issue is the break light is ON but when k press break lever or push foot break did not turn on just like idle tail light only. Any clue please ?
What year model is your Harley? So, if I understand correctly, when you turn the ignition ON the brake light is on but when you press brake the light turns OFF?
Mine brake light does not come on front or back when bike off. Then i start it and the brake light is on steady i push the front lever ahead and hold it there the light stay off all together ?
It sounds like you have an issue with the switch. Did you take the hand control apart before? Disassemble it and clean the internal components. Also when you take it apart, try pushing the switch with your finger, see if the brake light turns on/off. If the switch works properly, make sure everything is aligned when assembled.
Sounds like you may have a problem with a brake switch. Try taking it apart, check the wires and see if you can turn on/off the light by pressing the switch with your finger.

Hi, that make total sense, engaging the brake turns off the cruise control. I assume you have an electronic cruise control, right? Start with determining if the front or rear brake causes the light to be on, or if it even caused by the brake at all. Have you have any work done to the bike? Try pushing the lever back and pulling the pedal up. Can you turn it off? If not, disassemble both controls and see if you locate the switch and push it with your finger. Would that turn it off? Remember that you need to push both switches at the same time for the light to be off so you may need an assistant. Let me know how that works out and i’ll help you take it from there based on your results.
Ok so I followed the line for the rear brake. I swiped it noticed a lot of dirt and grease probably from oil changes. The switch must have been stuck becuase it went off and now cruise control works. I probably just have get under there and clean it up
Thanks for the help! I thought it was the plunger, but it was the contact on the switch. Great video!
I had the same problem, i used alcohol isopropanol and it solved my issue and the ”red light” doesnt show on my panel anymore, thank you brother!
Sounds good!
What yu use to spray alcohol? Just an old spray bottle ? Congrats
Won't the rubber seal get hard & brittle with no lube?

Yes. Thanks for showing. That is the problem I had. I very much appreciate you posting this.
I smiled too when you fixed your brake lights . Thanks for saving lives

Very helpful. I haven't tried this yet, but I'll definitely give this a try before taking it somewhere to get fixed. Thanks

Exactly. Pushing the switch in, should turn off the light. Did you examine the tip of the switch? I know sometimes they can break off.

Watching this video and a few others. I finally narrowed it down to the bulb itself. Bulb had some corrosion on the leads.
correction, it was the socket assembly part #68370-03A
Thanks for a good video. Very helpful!

My brake light was always on.
If I disconnect the rear brake plugs and the brake light is still on, is the front switch broken ?
Yes, if you disconnected the rear switch and the lights is still on, the problem is with the front switch.
