Every day is different for me, but I found that if I do a flow chart instead of a schedule, I do a lot more. Instead of get up at 8, breakfast at 8:30, etc, I just do a chart like this: Up > Dance class > breakfast (eggs and cheese) > coffee > morning pleasure reading > journal > homework assignment/work on current novel > lunch > work > etc I have an activity order, but no start/end times. It keeps me from stressing out when things take longer than expected or less time than expected.
My current morning routine: Up at 6:30. Off to the gym to lift weights and exercise. Always with a great audiobook. Home by 7:30. Take a cold shower. Make coffee/get dressed/pack lunch. (Done by about 8) Reading/journaling depending on my morning with breakfast. For 20 minutes. Leave for work around 8:20-8:25. Drive to work, arrive around 8:50.
I really admire people who can do a physical activity while listening to an audiobook I'm so disconnected with my body that I have to focus everything I have on the exercise 😔 The most I can do is listen to a podcast while walking from point A to point B on the streets

Im running a bakery and i do agree that we need a routine to keep the chaos in order. I do find having done my morning routine first thing before my day start give me a sense of control. The rest of the day managing a bakery cafe is hectic and unpredictable. My morning routine goes as follow: wake up at 5.30am > Yoga > Subuh (Dawn) prayer for muslim/similar to meditation it keeps me calm > coffee > Journalling > reading > work

Then I'll work my Japanese for half an hour, and take an hour walk to go to my office at the university and spend the day working on my phd essay, teaching or preparing the classes I'ill give, etc. I totally agree with you : walking or practising a sport is really important for learning oriented people. It helps doing something else, and listening to our body, which is usually the part of us we forget between two pages of a book =)
I tend to waking up feeling tired and grumpy so stretching, light workout early in the morning helps me a lot, don't forget to enjoy your sunrise too. Morning routine like this did help me.
I've recently started taking a quick cold shower first thing in the morning. It works better than coffee, pumps me up for the rest of my day. So for me morning routine consists of a quick cold shower, a little bit of yoga and some meditation (if my baby's not awake). 😊
My daily routine is actually a bit messy, but thanks to this video I'm going to try and improve it. The things that I know really work well for me are running 3km~ on my treadmill (so I can sort of multitask and be able to watch a video on YT, about whatever that will make me use my brain: philosophy, literature, self improvement, etc.) just a couple hours before going to sleep, and also reading for at least 30min before bed (As of right now I'm reading a light novel so I don't need to be 100% focused). Besides that, I just keep a record of what I spend time in, in order to become more efficient and not waste it in social media. If someone has some recommendations I'd love to improve it!

In my case I know that there are certain important habits, such as reading and exercise, which naturally get done each day thanks to my family’s lifestyle. :) So in the morning I focus on the habits that are most likely to get pushed aside but that are also essential to my mental, physical, and spiritual health. This entails getting up at 6:00, doing a quick stretching session, and then spending about 30 minutes sketching. After that I try to have some quiet time to pray and study the Bible before making breakfast. Even though it’s such a simple routine, it is vital for maintaining my energy and positivity throughout the day, which in turn allows me to serve others and focus on my tasks with a much clearer mind. :) I have found that as long as I have an orderly morning, I can deal with whatever life throws at me throughout the day. :) Thank you for sharing your routine! :) Take care, and best of luck with your academic pursuits! ✌️

mine is: wake up when i wake up (7 on a good day). drink warm spiced lemon water from my thermos (prepared the night before). do a full body stretch or yoga (depending on how spiritual i'm feeling). make my coffee & journal over coffee (i have depression so i tend to use my diary to give myself pep talks / reason myself into a good mood). optional: cry (wish i were joking). start my day (tackle my to-do list that i made the night before). (this used to be much stricter and harder to follow, by the way, the flexibility is thanks to your video essay on self-control, thank you for that. 💙)
Someone said depression comes from thinking about the past, and peace comes from living in the now. If you depression is not clinical then reading is a good way to take you out of yourself. Completing a daily routine(you choose) should make you feel successful all day despite of what the world throws at you.
Usually for adults its not 'starting' to read that is the issue. It is how to stop thinking about what you read about - as most adults have responsibilities that they need to focus on and prioritize. It would be very useful if you mentioned how to compartmentalize your mind so you can shift your focus from the 'very heavy philosophy' mindset to another, perhaps less intrinsic task.
IMO if you're reading anything worth reading, it should strike you as relevant during your daily responsibilities - it should speak to the way you go about your work. Not that it should always occupy you, or paralyze you, but I do think it shouldn't be something you compartmentalize away from the rest of your life.
@@MPKampersand What im asking is more about intrinsic reading material like philosophy and literature, while you have a day job that is separated more from these 'hobbies'. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be employed in a job that can use the hobbies as an integrated part of it :/ When I read up academic material as a masters student that also has a fulltime job in a way different field, it sometimes gets hard to step away.

We have rather similar routines. I don’t wake up early enough for a jog so I resort to yoga and 10 minutes of meditation. After that I journal for a bit followed by reading 10 pages of Proust. It’s so meditative and grounding.

Currently, I have not found the routine for myself which translates to, I'm constantly stressed every daylight I wake up. Which is the reason why I clicked on this video. Its currently 1:08 PM in my country. Everyday I wake up at 9-10 AM which isn't ideal. The first thing I reach for is my phone which becomes a thing I do for the rest of the day and the reason why I can't get myself to review my entrance test which is 5 days from now. This routine has become a problem. I have tried eliminating my phone out of sight only to binge for the next few days. For now, I think I'll follow your 30 minute rule and apply it on my own routine and instead of aiming to get up earlier, I'd aim for sleeping earlier.
As the laziest person I know, I first start my day with something I love, first, drink a small glass of water and prepare my coffee and eat breakfast while listening to this kind of vlogs or booktubers, then move to a "gotta do that shit" which is cleaning litter boxes, feeding my pets and water some plants. Finally I treat myself with a cigarette (unhealthy but it's my reward method that is not so time-consuming) while reading. Once I've done this I feel ready for my crazy office hours.
I don't have much going on, my one rule is beyond the very first check to make sure I don't need to rush off anywhere, I don't touch my phone until after my coffee. Instead I read, and this way I've read quite a few books
🤣Were you a Kumon student? You’re discussion of reading philosophy sounds exactly what I want my students to do. Consistency >> hard work. 30 minutes of critical reading every day is perfect. When you are done, put it down and go play. I love it!
The first thing I do is write my morning pages while I have coffee. It's just a bunch of stream of consciousness nonsense that I have to get out of my brain. Then I work on some creative writing for an hour. After that I do some yoga, then meditate. The last thing I do is read for however much time I have left, usually 30-45 minutes. Then get on with my day.
Really inspired by the language part, I don't have a routine at the moment but had to rush my homework before the lecture this morning and doing Italian grammar exercises in the morning with a green tea was really grounding so I think that's what I'll be doing in future. Would love to learn to read novels in the Latin languages!
as someone from the periphery of capitalism, my morning routine is to wake up at 4:50 (not by will and already extremely tired), and take three f****** hours of bus to get to college. I spend most of my day in a bus. I get gome around 7p.m just to do some chores and sleep again. I know it's a beautiful routine in the video, but it's not realistic for someone who has to work/study, and this is the reality of most people. We don't live in a dream.
My skincare/dental routine always makes me feel productive and sets me up for a great day. I like to listen to an audiobook while I do these things. And try stay off social media! (As in actually exfoliating, serum, moisturising, flossing and using mouthwash rather than just washing my face and brushing my teeth)

As a night owl, my morning routine is making sure I wake up in the nick of time 😆 It does get me thinking about the importance of a nighttime routine. I have bad habits that are holding me back...
Lately my morning routine has consisted of walking for 1-2 miles with my wife, going to the gym, shower, breakfast + coffee, then beginning my work day. I generally save all my reading for the evenings but maybe I will try getting some in during the mornings.
My morning routine with a full-time job and a family is: roll out of bed at 645, get ready for work (picking up messes as I go), leave at 720, arrive before 8.
My routine is folloving the whole day. I need a nice comforting breakfast, some guided meditation. Then between stuff and stuff I practice yoga. Love to read, or listen to a lecture, or watch an arthouse movie sometime. And in the evening meditation is good too. All that stuff helps me to be me and survive in this insane world.

I wake up at 6:00 and check the app of the cameras from work on my phone, waiting for 6:30. If the employee who should've been there to open up the place doesn't show up, I change really quickly and call someone to cover for him. I should be there by 6:40 If he does show up, I go back to sleep and wake up again at 7:00, wash my face and put sunscreen (I think that's my biggest "ritual"), make myself a big and heathy breakfast (hopefully, it depends on the time) and than go to work. I should be there by 8:00. I always intend to get out of bed at 6:00 to do some weightlifting and shit. I succeeded once.

I’m interested in hearing anyone’s thoughts on keeping up with world news. Is it part of your morning or night routine? How long do you spend on world news each day? The reason I ask is because I want to be a person who is aware of our changing world, but I can’t seem to find a way for it not to feel so heavy and depressing; effecting the rest of my day in a negative way. Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts.
I'm sure this is not helpful.. I vote, but avoid current news. I also find it depressing, since I can't change what so obviously needs changing. I do seek to live in peace with everyone and help when and where I can. Reading is a true gift and the availability of material allows me to read in many areas as well as fiction. I am learning about zettelkasten, note-boxing any ideas I come across throughout the day. Wonderful potential.

Set the timer for 20m to stay in bed after alarm. Use the bathroom and put on sunscreen. Put on clothes. Start coffee. Walk the dog. Attend work standup meeting remotely. Eat breakfast, brush teeth, wash bathroom counter, do a load of laundry, make green tea, and get back to work. Sorry for the lack of effort, trying to sleep.
My morning routine is a shame. I usually wake up at 9:30 and start working, I don’t take breakfast because I’m too lazy so I wait for my mom to do me some food, then I keep working as a translator mostly 4 hours a day, then when I finish working I make myself a joint to “rest the mind”, then I read novels for 30 minutes a day or sometimes 40 minutes, then I put myself to study whatever course I bought at the moment to become a better writer, and that’s my day, I finish it with another two blunts and dinner, I don’t do exercises, but sometime I do Apple fitness 😂😂

Not my place to answer, but you ask a great question, like many things your routine and the keeping of it is in your care. Why not days off? Or a different routine on Sundays? Sounds wise to me.
Don't believe everything content creators tell you about their perfect routines and perfect lives. 9/10 the reality is far more mundane, boring and less organised. Wouldn't surprise me at all if this so-called morning routine he's talking about, isn't a little bit overexaggerated. It would be unfair of me to assume anything though, so only speculation.
My routine depends on my life at the time really - working full time some days you are more tired than others and then on days off i like to suit myself. Don't need any gurus to tell me how best to live my life. My fierceness is too great 🤭And routines have nothing to do with being 'brainy' lol all sorts of people need routines...

I spend most of my day in a bus. I get gome around 7p.m just to do some chores and sleep again. I know it's a beautiful routine in the video, but it's not realistic for someone who has to work/study, and this is the reality of most people. We don't live in a dream.
My skincare/dental routine always makes me feel productive and sets me up for a great day. I like to listen to an audiobook while I do these things. And try stay off social media!
(As in actually exfoliating, serum, moisturising, flossing and using mouthwash rather than just washing my face and brushing my teeth)

Lately my morning routine has consisted of walking for 1-2 miles with my wife, going to the gym, shower, breakfast + coffee, then beginning my work day. I generally save all my reading for the evenings but maybe I will try getting some in during the mornings.
My morning routine with a full-time job and a family is: roll out of bed at 645, get ready for work (picking up messes as I go), leave at 720, arrive before 8.
My routine is folloving the whole day. I need a nice comforting breakfast, some guided meditation. Then between stuff and stuff I practice yoga. Love to read, or listen to a lecture, or watch an arthouse movie sometime. And in the evening meditation is good too. All that stuff helps me to be me and survive in this insane world.
wake up at 5 am , eat my breakfast + take my medications watch a video , after that journaling , go on a walk then mabye scroling on social media then having lunch , reading a little bit , and then afternoon nap , after that grip exercise , social media scroling then write my to do list before sleeping , which is maybe ill do it or not and then sleep

I wake up at 6:00 and check the app of the cameras from work on my phone, waiting for 6:30.
If the employee who should've been there to open up the place doesn't show up, I change really quickly and call someone to cover for him. I should be there by 6:40
If he does show up, I go back to sleep and wake up again at 7:00, wash my face and put sunscreen (I think that's my biggest "ritual"), make myself a big and heathy breakfast (hopefully, it depends on the time) and than go to work. I should be there by 8:00.
I always intend to get out of bed at 6:00 to do some weightlifting and shit. I succeeded once.

I’m interested in hearing anyone’s thoughts on keeping up with world news. Is it part of your morning or night routine? How long do you spend on world news each day? The reason I ask is because I want to be a person who is aware of our changing world, but I can’t seem to find a way for it not to feel so heavy and depressing; effecting the rest of my day in a negative way. Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts.
I'm sure this is not helpful.. I vote, but avoid current news. I also find it depressing, since I can't change what so obviously needs changing. I do seek to live in peace with everyone and help when and where I can. Reading is a true gift and the availability of material allows me to read in many areas as well as fiction. I am learning about zettelkasten, note-boxing any ideas I come across throughout the day. Wonderful potential.

Set the timer for 20m to stay in bed after alarm. Use the bathroom and put on sunscreen. Put on clothes. Start coffee. Walk the dog. Attend work standup meeting remotely. Eat breakfast, brush teeth, wash bathroom counter, do a load of laundry, make green tea, and get back to work. Sorry for the lack of effort, trying to sleep.

My morning routine is a shame. I usually wake up at 9:30 and start working, I don’t take breakfast because I’m too lazy so I wait for my mom to do me some food, then I keep working as a translator mostly 4 hours a day, then when I finish working I make myself a joint to “rest the mind”, then I read novels for 30 minutes a day or sometimes 40 minutes, then I put myself to study whatever course I bought at the moment to become a better writer, and that’s my day, I finish it with another two blunts and dinner, I don’t do exercises, but sometime I do Apple fitness 😂😂

Not my place to answer, but you ask a great question, like many things your routine and the keeping of it is in your care. Why not days off? Or a different routine on Sundays? Sounds wise to me.

Don't believe everything content creators tell you about their perfect routines and perfect lives. 9/10 the reality is far more mundane, boring and less organised. Wouldn't surprise me at all if this so-called morning routine he's talking about, isn't a little bit overexaggerated. It would be unfair of me to assume anything though, so only speculation.
My routine depends on my life at the time really - working full time some days you are more tired than others and then on days off i like to suit myself. Don't need any gurus to tell me how best to live my life. My fierceness is too great 🤭And routines have nothing to do with being 'brainy' lol all sorts of people need routines...
