Disney clearly wants to keep the franchise going forever. Crystal Skull was supposed to pass the torch to a son, but Shia LaBeouf's Hollywood shine wore off immediately after. Now they need a new character to lead the franchise, so this was always about Helena's arc from selfish to heroic. As long as Phoebe Waller-Bridge doesn't follow LaBeouf's path, the plan was certainly to make a number 6 with her as the new Indy character. The financials of this film will complicate those plans. The question now is, will number 6 stick to that plan or be a full reboot? But there will definitely be more. Disney has never seen a franchise they couldn't milk to death and way, way beyond.
I'm not sure how much more money Disney can lose. Disney has lost $900 million dollars from their movie divisions this year so far and this movie will probably add at least a 200-250 million loss. So it's a guarantee that Disney's going to lose a billion dollars over a billion dollars. I don't think disney is going to have money to throw around on feminist sjw pet projects.
Financial loss doesn't mean anything to disney because their bank account is still vast and wide. If anything it would accelerate the timeline. I believe 6 was intended to be a full reboot from the getgo, the only question is will indie die offscreen or onscreen.
Thank you for savaging this movie so eloquently, you are a master of words and I love listening to you heap scorn on the creators with your recognisable flair and panache 👌👏🤣🙌
It’s interesting because I think she was supposed to be a reflection of Indiana Jones, a female version of him. It ended up just showing what they think of him in the end, and they never respected the idea of Indiana Jones.
Phoebe Waller Bridge is one of the contenders for the next James Bond movie. As one of the writers of No Time To Die, she made Daniel Craig's James Bond a second fiddle to Nomi. Can you imagine what she will do if she directs a new actor playing Bond? She will probably relegate Bond as a tertiary character in his own movie.
Honestly if they had made him the cool grand dad with good stories that got dragged into one last adventure it wold have been a nice call back to Last Crusade and a great circle of life narrative. But Disney and Lucas Films are too caught up in making a movie about “The Message “ and less about a good story. Some one save us from mediocre movie making please! I don’t want such a prestigious form of entertainment to die on this hill!
I'd say that those soldiers in the raiders of the lost are got off lucky. Their deaths took minutes to complete not 2.5 hours of misery and wretched writing
Amazing video! Lethal weapon 4, Ip Man 4 & Rurouni Kenshin: The final + the beginning are imo amazing examples of how to give main leads satisfying send offs in films. Maybe make future videos about those?
To Me, The Best Ending To Indiana Jones Is At The End Of The Last Crusade. Riding Off Into The Sunset... Fare-The-Well Indy. My True Childhood Hero. Good Video As Always!
KK reminds me in her projects of EXACTLY what went wrong with the Disney Star Wars films... people who imitate what they don't understand milking it for profits they haven't earned at the cost of the complete destruction of the souls of the things they are profiting from. All so 'Young woman" can school "Old white male" at the things that made him a legend, while he sits around being neutered. Villains who exist only to aggrandize a childish power fantasy that -lacks- any actual gratification for anyone who knows that with great power, comes great responsibility, and power is earned by -being - responsible, or at a minimum, capable of earning it in the first place.
Don't worry about Helena. In another decade or two we'll get another sequel that reveals she was killed off-screen to clear the stage for the next random guest protagonist.
For fans of the Indiana Jones franchise, this film offers a continuation of the adventurous spirit and thrilling escapades that the series is known for. Despite its flaws, the movie still captured the essence of Indiana Jones and provided exciting action sequences. One of the highlights of the film, as you mentioned in your video, is Harrison Ford’s performance. Ford’s portrayal of Indiana Jones has been a fan favorite for decades, and his dedication to the character is a big positive aspect of the movie. While you mentioned that the film struggled with the balance between nostalgia and modern storytelling, I appreciated the nostalgic elements and references to the original trilogy. These callbacks resonated with me and provided a sense of familiarity and fondness.
That’s honestly what bothered me the most. This woman went from telling guards to shoot Indy to begging him to come back. The boat scene where Jones tells her he witnessed his friend get murdered should have been way more emotional. At that point Indy should have honestly given her a mouthful about why he stopped and everyone he lost. It should have been the definitive moment to where Helena reflects on her actions and how many people died fighting for the dial. She could’ve even had some dialogue about how Indy wasn’t there for her like he should’ve and he would’ve retorted with that he’s here now to stop her from getting herself killed or hurt. Two characters clashing into each other. A jaded old man vs a money hungry con. Both realizing that without their friends or family, these treasures mean nothing. They still end up finding the other dial because it’s what wombats father would have wanted and the scene with archimedes would have honestly made more sense character wise. But no. Suddenly she cares about jones.
@@contentcreator8750You can tell they reshot the ending willing to bet the rumors of the original one having her replace him were true. But test screenings and reactions to the leak were so bad they changed it.

@@contentcreator8750 You actually think Harrison Ford even cares about these characters anymore? He doesn't care what they do with them. Mangold lied about there being no test screenings probably because they were mostly negative in response you think they wouldn't lie about reshooting the ending too?

Rewriting the script so the scenes make sense to fit changing the ending, regathering all the actors and throwing more money on top of an already 300 million? It wouldn’t have been possible to release it on time. Not to mention that the leaks said that Indy would be erased as a younger version of him would die. There was literally not a shred of proof of these leaks. people just made assumptions about it.

I feel like yea maybe mutt got drafted or like became a man more hell bent on getting the respect he thought he needed so he joined up with the army but even through all that thinking I couldnt not think that marrion and Indy wouldn’t have tried to get mutt to dodge it and fly somewhere they can go grave digging any day of the week. Every hero we bring back just needs to be sad it’s a trope now just cause they can’t think of any where to go from happy setting of crystal skull: edit/ apparently mutt did it out of spite to his parents…why tho? What would he had to have gained from that, mutt wasn’t exactly the model citizen when we meant him and he clearly wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps as he picked up Indy’s hat this is such a glaring problem that it destroys any emotional or structural point in this movie
Yeah, this review has honestly convinced me to just forget that the newer Indi films exist since they just done have the heart of soul that Lucas films and Steven Spielberg put into the original trilogy
@@filmcomicsexplained really, not just me but millions of people value you, whatever your real name is. God bless you, and I hope you find true peace in life.
This is what happens when you don’t let George Lucas or Steven Spielberg do what they do best. I guess your favorite franchise can’t win once the mouse takes hold😡😞
An idea. Mutt still dies in Vietnam, but Short Round is there and unable to save. Then you put Short Round (dealing with PTSD and survivors guilt) with Indy and Marian who are grieving the loss of their child and together through the adventure start on the path of healing. You could include flashbacks to Mutt and Short Round in Vietnam together along with events leading up to Mutt's death. Toss in Short Round wanting it to go back and save Mutt, Indy with his way of saving Mutt, and Marian with her way. Keep the Mads Mikkelson as the villain of course and make him less of an idiot.
UK here.. tried to watch it twice and fell asleep twice.. i saw Spielberg making a speech saying it was down to 3 people, he thanked Lucas, Harrison and the man that made the music. Kathleen was on stage and you saw her face. watching this, all i see is Helena as Kathleen slagging of Spielberg being Indi.. she has destroyed 3 franchises, without counting the entire cannon of Star Wars too. with the Hotel she had made, thinking people would pay thousands a night per person to spend it with Disney Star wars, who ever green lit it is insane. they have spent years now slagging off half of the USA, calling them either right wing nazis or basement babies, not realising that, the rest of us around the world grew up loving these things too. nothing wrong with a female lead. destroying the male that made the franchise is just madness..
I don't have the problem with a new protagonist, in fact it sounded pretty cool, but you can't build someone up by tearing someone else down. If the new protagonist was trying to find the dial, Indie should have been the funny mentor. Everytime the protagonist did something over the top, with guns and cars, show Indie doing it easier and faster without all the action, show indie's wisdom and experience. Everytime the new adventurer would arrive in a new location have Indie already there with a team of grad students, slowly and carefully digging up the place. It would have been funny. NP: "made it! First one here-" turns to find Indie and his team eating lunch. "How did you!?" "Planes are faster than trains kid," Indie laughed. "I guessing your looking for the other piece of the dial?" He points down the road to tents filled with students slowly digging. " Short round! Lead this idiot to the start of the secret entrance." "Why are you helping me?" Indie shrugged, "I need lots of help at you age to, not everyone is against you kid. I would suggest you get a move on, bad guy aren't going to sit around for you."
I feel like there could be a scene with Mutt and Marion at the time of Helena's flashback where we could be seeing the family together which could make a good cut into the beginning scene set in 1969. I could imagine instead of Indy speeding away with the dial after promising to destroy it, there could be a scene with Mutt driving the car he left in and having some conversation that lead into them being a family with Marion at the apartment for something like dinner. Indy goes to sit at the chair, picks up the beer then boom 1969. Eh, probably not happening anyway.
It’s a challenge but as I see it a needed moral choice to forgive older people when they weren’t perfect, something I realize more the older I get. For a younger person to taunt and hate on an older person shows not only a lack of maturity, but a total rejection of humanity.
I hope Bethesda makes their own universe of Indiana Jones cause this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Hollywood didn't do the character ending justice. But in video games at least Indiana Jones can make a series of games that Dr. Jones can go back maybe adopt Short round, make Dr. Brody/Henry Sr live on, and erase 4/5 instalments to make their own ending for a character that honestly deserves an ending where everyone can appreciate and love.
I like the idea that Indie staying in the past would harm the "correct" path of history more than a significantly still intact airplane in the hands of a mechanical genius would.
What has really made me hate this new era of nostalgia movies, is the obvious attempts to make the old protagonists seem evil or unworthy. Then they insert new characters that somehow are amazing at everything they do without really ant explanation or justifications. Then try to say, "It's just like the old movies." Characters like Indy aren't timeless, heroic, and fun because they are perfect at everything. Indy was a flawed character that most of the time got lucky, had to use intelligence, or think outside the box to get the job done. Honestly, if you go watch the old movies, Indy is getting his a$$ kicked most of the time. I still cannot understand who this movie is meant for, or why Disney would continue to allow their investments to be destroyed by the same person... over... and over.
You know what would have been real cool? Whenever anyone was holding a piece of the dial continuity would change ever so slightly, but only they would know, blue shirt would turn green then purple, showing someone in the future or past playing with the dial.
Listening to your well written plot synopsis, i feel like theres a decent movie in here if it had competent writers and a totally different actress cast as helena.
Jez Butterworth wrote Jerusalem. Pheobe Waller-Bridge wrote Fleabag. Both of these were considered to be the revival of English theatre. They won a lot of awards. For theatre. Martin McDonagh wrote various plays that were lauded but admitted he was only doing it so he could write screenplays. He then created In Bruges and Three Bill Boards...My point is, that whilst it's possible to be successful in one form it's difficult to jump between the two successfully, without a recognition of the differences between the two forms, it would appear.
As I see it Hollywood has a problem with a lack of decent writers and proper management i.e studio heads. While there is some well written movies and shows here and there a vast majority of content is low bro tripe. Add to that that you have studio bosses that don't understand basic tenants of filmmaking (narrative structure, editing, ect.) it makes films like this possible. These executives need to be able to look a project and say "You know what, I don't think that will work". But unfortunately the excecs only care about marketing and wringing a franchise till there is nothing left. Plus the studio bosses and writers to a lesser extent have huge egos. Add this all together and you can see why Hollywood is in the state that it is currently in.
This is why the writers strike is happening now. They know they havent been writing quality, and are terrified the studios will just use AI to come up with stories instead. Warner have even said they are using AI to keep track of the new DC projects and ensure any continuity errors and inconsistencies are found before they are in production. There will be a major overhaul with actors also about to strike soon. It'll be 2008 writers strike all over again. Prepare for upcoming shows and films to be delayed for a while
@filmcomicsexplained Hollywood is eating itself. It's sad to see because there is some decent material out there but the machine has become so used to turning out schlock that it is rare that we get projects worth our time and money.
These actors and actresses are also the problem too. They dont care for the material either since their livelyhood isnt affected by the performance of these movies since a large portion of their income comes from sponsorship deals with clothing brand and such.
@emperormeako Unfortunately a lot of actors think that they are writers too which leads to all kinds of questionable story and dialog choices. The first two seasons of Star Trek Picard scripts and story direction were under Patrick Stewart's purview and while he is a incredible actor he is not a good storyteller. The old adage "keep actors out of the writer's room" is there for a reason. And while not all actors are like this a large percentage are, especially as the accrue more fame.
I propose a fair solution to the writers strike: the writers repay their fees, apologize for their terrible work and return to the suburbs they came from and never write again.
It always makes me happy that Back To The Future has remained a trilogy and that Hollywood hasn't touched this Franchise since the year 1990. I can't even begin to imagine how terrible a 4th and 5th Sequel of it would have looked like. Too bad the same thing didn't happen to Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Carribbean :(
KK does the same thing in every Disney Lucasfilm. Take the main character and make them a pathetic old man, replace with a self insert woman who's also a Mary Sue. She did this with Star Wars, and willow, and now Indiana
Yep. Kathleen Kennedy believe she can turn Star Wars or any brand into a female-centric female customer brand. Kathleen Kelly believes in Bolshevik marketing. Bolshevik marketing works just like communism.... not at all.
How is Kathleen Kennedy allowed to continue working when she has destroyed so much at Disney? I absolutely cannot understand how she still has a job now that she’s destroyed yet another franchise, this time Indiana Jones.
I’m no fan of Indiana Jones, but even I’m getting depressed by this destruction of beloved series. I’m scared that they will go after one that’s dear to me now and that it’s only a matter of time.

But wouldn't an experience adventurer like Indiana Jones be able to figure it out....
''Ok sir I'm gonna need you to get all the way out of my back from that''
Yeah that's fair
Indy didn't believe the dial had any powers, so he didn't have any interest in finding the rest.
@@geelwashandje131 I am not criticsing and I have not seen the movie but - weren't we just told in this video that after Indie found the spear was a fake, he got the dial piece instead, kept it for many years, refusing to destroy it even after promising to do it, and hid it so it is not found by anyone? Am I missing something or does that not say he kinda knows it's important and may have powers or are we questionong his judgement more than the movie belittles his character?
@@Marin_HuronIndie at first didn't want the dial until it made his friend gone insane which he went to retrieve it and promised he will destroy it but instead he decided to keep it instead because well he likes History.

Its not a love letter to a beloved franchise. It’s a punch to the face of our beloved Indiana Jones. They dont know subtly too because they punched him literally.
Thank you very much for the video. Not only I saved 10 dollars, but I saved hours of my life by watching your video. Your explanation of the movies is more engaging than what most Kennedy made.
They somehow made Kingdom of the Crystal Skull look good
At least that film treated him with Dignity, ended it with his Marriage to Marion and his reconciliation with Mutt.

It's got to be the Critical Drinker. He is the only drunken wise man who reviews movies that I know of...
It ended up just showing what they think of him in the end, and they never respected the idea of Indiana Jones.
considering the director has stated his desire to see Indy humiliated James Mengle seems a better name
Let's go! Thanks for the upload. I always look forward to your insights and reviews to movies new and old.
It’s my belief that the only people that saw this were critics and film reviewers.
Those Arnold clips were good.
I don’t want such a prestigious form of entertainment to die on this hill!
did you see the movie there was nothing about the message in this movie
I'd say that those soldiers in the raiders of the lost are got off lucky. Their deaths took minutes to complete not 2.5 hours of misery and wretched writing
Amazing video! Lethal weapon 4, Ip Man 4 & Rurouni Kenshin: The final + the beginning are imo amazing examples of how to give main leads satisfying send offs in films. Maybe make future videos about those?

Good
For fans of the Indiana Jones franchise, this film offers a continuation of the adventurous spirit and thrilling escapades that the series is known for.
Soon as I saw waller-bridge's name attached I knew it was doa. Anything with kathleen Kennedy overseeing it is doomed to fail.
Would you say that Helena had a character arc, or did she just decid to change her mind for no substantive reason?
@@Lunk42 wouldn’t make any sense. Harrison wouldn’t have agreed to that and I think that theory was just made up as rage bait. The same thing happened to 007 when people thought bond was being replaced by a black woman. Dial of destiny has its major issues but I don’t think they intended on going that route at all.
@@contentcreator8750 You actually think Harrison Ford even cares about these characters anymore? He doesn't care what they do with them. Mangold lied about there being no test screenings probably because they were mostly negative in response you think they wouldn't lie about reshooting the ending too?
@@Lunk42 Do you know how long a reshoot for that would have taken for the leaks to be true? Rewriting the script so the scenes make sense to fit changing the ending, regathering all the actors and throwing more money on top of an already 300 million? It wouldn’t have been possible to release it on time. Not to mention that the leaks said that Indy would be erased as a younger version of him would die. Meaning that the events of the movie would never have happened in the first place. Again this is the same shit with 007. People made an assumption and overreacted on it. There was literally not a shred of proof of these leaks. people just made assumptions about it.

Thanks for the review, a lot of people are saying this a bad movies, even Angry Joe gives it a 3/10. That says a lot. We live in an age where we ran out of good ideas. 😵💫
Or the good ideas get run over by the message.

@@JPOG7TV It's getting neededly bashed for politics because of the bullshit it's inserting. Critical Drinker has a fantastic review of it.
KK was a producer on all the Indy films....
UK here.. tried to watch it twice and fell asleep twice.. i saw Spielberg making a speech saying it was down to 3 people, he thanked Lucas, Harrison and the man that made the music. Kathleen was on stage and you saw her face. watching this, all i see is Helena as Kathleen slagging of Spielberg being Indi.. she has destroyed 3 franchises, without counting the entire cannon of Star Wars too. with the Hotel she had made, thinking people would pay thousands a night per person to spend it with Disney Star wars, who ever green lit it is insane. they have spent years now slagging off half of the USA, calling them either right wing nazis or basement babies, not realising that, the rest of us around the world grew up loving these things too. nothing wrong with a female lead. destroying the male that made the franchise is just madness..
the biggest mystery is why KK still has a job
15:42 Wait, why did they CGI light beaming DOWNWARD from the overhead projector lens? Did we forget how these work?
"How did you!?"
"Planes are faster than trains kid," Indie laughed. "I guessing your looking for the other piece of the dial?" He points down the road to tents filled with students slowly digging. " Short round! Lead this idiot to the start of the secret entrance."
"Why are you helping me?"
Indie shrugged, "I need lots of help at you age to, not everyone is against you kid. I would suggest you get a move on, bad guy aren't going to sit around for you."
😂 glad you used the South Park reference
And just like that Flash wasn't even the biggest bomb of June.
Rather impressive lols
Another amazing vid, thank you my dude 🙏🏽
I hope Bethesda makes their own universe of Indiana Jones cause this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Hollywood didn't do the character ending justice. But in video games at least Indiana Jones can make a series of games that Dr. Jones can go back maybe adopt Short round, make Dr. Brody/Henry Sr live on, and erase 4/5 instalments to make their own ending for a character that honestly deserves an ending where everyone can appreciate and love.
It was a great movie, had a lot of fun to watch grumpy old Indy on hes last adventure!
I like the idea that Indie staying in the past would harm the "correct" path of history more than a significantly still intact airplane in the hands of a mechanical genius would.
Hail KneeAnt! Saw your superchat on FNT or real BBC. (Forgot which as things seem to run together now)
What has really made me hate this new era of nostalgia movies, is the obvious attempts to make the old protagonists seem evil or unworthy.
Then they insert new characters that somehow are amazing at everything they do without really ant explanation or justifications. Then try to say, "It's just like the old movies."
Characters like Indy aren't timeless, heroic, and fun because they are perfect at everything. Indy was a flawed character that most of the time got lucky, had to use intelligence, or think outside the box to get the job done. Honestly, if you go watch the old movies, Indy is getting his a$$ kicked most of the time. I still cannot understand who this movie is meant for, or why Disney would continue to allow their investments to be destroyed by the same person... over... and over.
I love all of your vids but these in particular I look forward too lol. Im usually very easy to please when it comes to movies as well.
Love all the Arnold clips
"The Raiders of the Lost IPs" a solid title for a Netflix documentary looking back at this period in Cinema in 20 years time 🤦🏻♂️
As I see it Hollywood has a problem with a lack of decent writers and proper management i.e studio heads.
I love how you used Schwarzenegger to critique this movie, calling it “BS”.
It always makes me happy that Back To The Future has remained a trilogy and that Hollywood hasn't touched this Franchise since the year 1990.
