Why is impact beyond the octagon even a category for FIGHTER of the year? This is how one of the greatest of all time, mighty mouse, gets overlooked. It should be based solely on their fights, record and level of opposition, it doesn’t matter if they’re famous on TikTok or if they met with a pope. 🤦🏻‍♂️

In a lot of cases, I would agree with you, but in this case, I don’t. The issue with this argument is that the UFC isn’t a "league." Leagues operate as meritocracies, where a chance at the title is earned based on what happens within the field of play. Small-market teams or lesser-known athletes that are part of a league can thrive solely on their performance within the game. The UFC, however, is a *promotion*. And at the heart of "promotion" is "promote." This distinction is crucial because the ability to promote a prizefight has a fanatical gravity all its own-a magnetic force drawing fans, views, and attention. This pull is essential for Dana White, or any promoter, in deciding who gets a shot at the title.
In the UFC, impact outside the octagon ABSOLUTELY matters. A fighter’s ability to captivate audiences, build a following, and attract eyes toward themselves and the promotion plays a massive role in their success. One of the most powerful platforms to build that presence is social media, especially TikTok.
While I agree that Mighty Mouse hasn’t gotten the recognition he deserves as one of the greatest fighters, his financial success would have likely been far greater if his social media presence had reached its current level during his peak fighting years.
That said, I appreciate you watching, and I really value your comment. Hope to see more of your thoughts in the future-thanks, bro!

@@oo3813 Records, stats, and opponents were thoroughly discussed...tiktok was never part of that discussion.
Personally, when thinking of FOTY, I'm looking at a fighter as a whole, yano? For example, "I think Ilia deserves fighter of the year because he knocked out 2 GOATS consecutively." vs "Ilia's dream is to headline a PPV in his home country, but is aware of the logistical constraints. On top of the process fighters go through to prepare for a fight like, training, media, weight cuts etc, he's done [X], outside the octagon to set himself up for the future. His preferred outcome is now a high stake for him as a fighter, & he put these stakes on the line for everyone to see. He knocked out one GOAT, then became undeniable after knocking out another. His display of dedication to his craft both inside and outside the octagon (inside the octagon includes, records, the fights themselves, stats, & level of opposition) throughout the year makes him FOTY for me."
Mighty Mouse is in the majority of people's top 5 today. Mighty mouse is in no way overlooked, man. Stop it 😭😂. Even if you think about his career with the UFC: DJ had 18 fights/8 decision wins/9 performance bonuses. One of those 9 bonuses was for a fight he lost by decision. 💀 Compare that to Belal Muhammad's 19 fights/12 decision wins/3 performance bonuses. How was DJ's talent overlooked with 9 performance bonuses...from the UFC? They made a whole Ultimate Fighter for DJ. Right or wrong, they made a business choice they clearly felt was right for them at the time, but he was not overlooked.
What I think you're trying to imply is that DJ was slept on by the casual fan...at the time. To which I'll respond..no shit. Right? That's the business part of being an athlete. Name 5 athletes in any sport that are superstars solely based on their talent on the court/ring/field/track.....
