  • This darbuka lesson is an introduction to pops. It shows how to do 3 varieties:
    * the flathand pop
    * the backhand pop
    * the thumb pop.
    Then it shows how to incorporate them into rhythms and fills, and teaches a technique for pitch-changing pops.
    This lesson is intended for players who are already comfortable with the basic techniques: doum, tek, and ka.
    Familiarity with the rhythms: Beledi, Maqsum, Ayoub, and Saiidi is also helpful, but if you don't know them yet, you'll pick them up.

    Thank you for these! I'm currently favouring the thumb myself but greatly see why the rest of these pops are valuable expressions worthwhile mastering...or at least attempting to.
    PS am I correct in assuming you also deeply appreciate middle eastern progressive metal fusions too?

      Who do you like for middle eastern progressive metal fusion? I make music in that subgenre, but I'm not that familiar with who else is doing it.

    Hello Geoff its really wonderful learning from you the tips you give are really amazing, i would like to request if you can make a lesson on fills that go with each rhythm or when we are shifting from one rhythm to another.
