  • Hotel du Parc Gin Cocktail - Cocktails After Dark
    Welcome back, friends! Join us for another round of "Cocktails After Dark" as we dive into a classic gin & Cointreau cocktail from Ted Saucier's 1951 volume, "Bottoms Up." However, since I'm flying (piloting) tomorrow, we're putting a twist on one with a gin substitute that still packs a punch of flavour without breaking any aviation rules.
    Exploring Canadian Air regulations (602.03), I'll be well within the guidelines for safe Piloting. I'll be using Seedlip Grove 42, a citrus-flavored non-alcoholic spirit, while Julie opts for a Quebec gin with a blueberry-forward profile. And yes, there's a touch of Cointreau for that perfect hint of sweetness.
    Watch as we juice mandarins, shake up the cocktails with ice, and unveil the surprising colour difference in our drinks. Despite the same ingredients, the unique flavours of each cocktail shine through. Whether you're on the lookout for a zero-alcohol option or a low-alcohol treat, this cocktail experiment has something for everyone.

    I will once again be flying in the Give Hope Wings fundraiser this year! Our June of 2024 flight will see us stop in many communities in Eastern Canada to raise awareness for this worthy cause.
    Last year 2023 we raised over $27,000 towards helping our neighbours - we made a positive difference in the lives of many.

      Good god man, poor Canadian regulations

    • @GlenAndFriendsCooking
      @GlenAndFriendsCooking  2 месяца назад +8

      @@louisavila9450 Not really a 'Canadian' regulation... It's a regulation everywhere; in every country that has pilots.
      Pilots can't fly (as in operate the controls / pilot the aircraft) within 8 - 12 hours of their last drink, or if they have any alcohol in their system.
      Pretty standard rule.

      @@GlenAndFriendsCookingAlmost hate to ask this question, and full disclosure, I drink alc. as well, but a couple years back, a commercial pilot had dropped by my neighbor's house for a BBQ. He and the neighbor had gotten kinda deep into the whiskey by the time I got there. Around midnight, I learned the guy was FO on an Embraer departing the following morning. From my ground school alone, I think that guy had busted the FAA's 'Bottle to Throttle' regulation. Whether he was a danger to the flight or not, I cannot say, but it made me very uncomfortable. What would you do in such a situation? I thought of trying to call the FAA, to run a spot check, but ultimately I did nothing. Everything was OK in the end, obviously, but still... Life can get dicey, if you have a conscience. Cheers.

    • @GlenAndFriendsCooking
      @GlenAndFriendsCooking  2 месяца назад +3

      @@bartofilms That's a tough one - even though the FO isn't PIC on the flight, they still would be in control of critical communications etc. The 'Bottle to Throttle' rule in the US is little more lax at 8 hours instead of Canada's 12, but some commercial airlines in the US self mandate a 12 hour rule. We also have a second clause allowing zero alc in the bloodstream on top of the 12 hours - I'm not sure if the US has that regulation?
      I would have confronted the guy; but I also know that probably would do no good. Ultimately the Captain on that flight is responsible to make sure his crew is up to snuff and should have pulled the FO if they noticed him hung over.
      Uncomfortable situation for sure, and certainly one of the regulations that gets busted all the time unfortunately. I get a bit of grief about how sticky I am with that one, but I'll put the safety of myself and everyone I'm flying with over having one more beer or cocktail.

      @@GlenAndFriendsCooking For the US, 14 CFR § 91.17 states: No person may act or attempt to act as a crewmember of a civil aircraft … Within 8 hours after the consumption of any alcoholic beverage … While having an alcohol concentration of 0.04 or greater in a blood or breath specimen. Alcohol concentration means grams of alcohol per deciliter of blood or grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath.
      Left seat, right seat, jump seat. Doesn't matter.
      Call airport PD and let them sort it out.

    I wonder how many people have bought the book just to see what the artwork (not suitable for RUclips) is like. I’ve been tempted to buy the Ford Treasury of Favorite Recipes from Famous Restaurants just for the art we’ve seen in the videos. Cookbook and drink recipes artwork might be an interesting topic.

    4:23 if the alcohol “makes everthing come together a little bit better”, in your opinion is this because the alcohol is acting as a solvent accentuating the orange flavor components for a more noticeable mouth sensation? Respectfully, W.S.
