I thoroughly enjoyed this. What a gift Brian has been given to ride these spectacular horses. And he is a gift to them as well. In my most cherished dreams, I could be riding War Chant. Three Chimneys realizes that they love to be ridden and SHOULD be. LOVE IT!
I used to exercise mares and stallions like this at the Olathe, KS stable of the Royal Jordanian Arabian Farm. The horses belonged to the late King Hussein of Jordan. He was alive then. Many of the horses were also owned by his uncle HRH Sherif Nasser Bin Jamil. When I say we exercised the mares, I am saying we exercised the mares that weren't in foal yet because they had not ovulated to the extent they could be bred. Some of the mares on foal were exercised but not very hard and mostly on the longe line. Some of the calmer stallions were ridden out on the trail. This was back in the late 1970s. It was like being paid to do what we would normally do on our own time!
I have ridden a Thoroughbred stallion. My own. I had him for 33 years; I bought him at 7 months old. He was not a race horse; he became a hunter/jumper. He was 18.2 hands, and gentle as a lamb.
This is so great for the horses, it is a bond emotionally as well as good exersize. plus can you imagine riding these horses just for chuckles :) I love it :) Horses are born to run and to be able to run with them is a blessing from God, excellent Job Three Chimmneys!
I think this is an excellent idea that probably also improves the quality of life of the stallions and helps insure that Three Chimneys doesn't have a stallion that has a post-breeding heart attack, or very less likely to. More farms should do this.
They do need more exercise at all farms, that's for sure. Even one of the greatest---Man O' War, was exercised under saddle regularly. Seabiscuit was too, and he even learned to work cattle.
About time! Horses need a job.
They are too smart to stand in a stall all day.
Love how the rider was singing. I used to sing while I rode.

What a cool experience!
I didn’t know this was done…an excellent idea !
If I got to gallop a stallion like that I would cry.

If only all OTTBs had a situation like this. What a great thing you are doing!

Unless of course, they retire unsound. Maybe then they could be hand walked, depending on injury.
These are breeding stallions
Well done. No depression at this stable
These stallions should be exercised. It keeps them occupied, and they don't have all that pent-up energy. They are easier to handle also.
Great hands
Love it!
Thanks Jenna!
