The Best Eyelash Growth Serums 👁👁 With & Without Prostaglandins & Why I Stopped Using Them

  • As an alternative to Latisse, there are still many Eyelash serums with prostaglandins on the market. For the fastest and longest growing lashes the Serum I would recommend the Rodan & Fields Lash Boost Eyelash Growth Serum (FYI- Rodan and Fields is an MLM company, for more information about MLM's see here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi...)
Second to that (and a bit more affordable) would be the Babe Lash Essential Serum. Watch for sales of it on many Beauty box sites such as Fab Fit Fun, Ipsy, Boxycharm and more. Nuelash Eyelash Growth Serum would be an easy third for me. Revitalash is also a great option. Grande Lash is also an effective Lash Serum, but many users (including myself) found it to be one of the most drying.
Just be sure to watch out for eye dryness, styes, and dark circles. Some growth Serums for lashes can also darken pupils and light colored eyes. For many people this can be PERMANENT!
If you are looking for Eyelash serums without prostaglandins, an easy and affordable option is Pure Jamaican Castor Oil. RapidLash is also a relatively affordable option as well. These won't give you the false Eyelash look, but will help maximize your Eyelash Growth potential.

I’m only 24 and after using revitalash, a lash serum with prostaglandins, I had orbital eye fat loss and skin thinning. So my eyes looked veiny and sunken in. Lashes were BOMB though, lol. About a month after I stopped using them my eyes are back to normal, the fat comes back and skin thickens again, but the experience was not worth it tbh. (And I did a lot of research, as if turns out EVERYONE loses orbital eye fat from prostaglandin serums eventually. Some sooner, some later)

After developing dry eye I started looking into serums not containing prostaglandin or Isopropyl Cloprostenate which is a synthetic prostaglandin analogue. Bioluma does not contain these ingredients and made for sensitive eyes. Was going to give it a try. Prostaglandins are chemical compounds found naturally within almost all of our body's tissue that are responsible for signaling inflammation within the body. I am a permanent make up artist and major bleeding, brushing and swelling occur. I have my clients stay off of them for at least 8 weeks. Could take up to 11 months for this ingredient to completely circle through your system.

When i found out about the side effects it was exactly after I had bought the eyelash serum with prostaglandin. So i thought I'll just finish this tube and not buy any more (it was quite expensive and i feel guilty about throwing away something i barely used, so far i have no side effects besides slight itch right after I apply but it goes away, i try my best to not get it into my eye at all though).
I've seen my lashes looking better which is a shame since I'm afraid to continue buying this for maintenance so i was hoping i can find a good prostaglandin free eyelash serum that is safe for the eyes and maybe use that to at least maintain the effects i had now
I assume biotin , peptides, castor oil together should do at least something. Do you guys have any suggestions of great safe serums?

Hi I have dry eyes due to rosacea and often need to use hydrating eye drops when I'm mid flare up. I have used revitalash in the past and found it drying/a bit irritating long term (six months every night), but my lashes were long and thick. Two of my sisters have the most naturally long/thick eyelashes, so I'm not sure what happened to me lol. In fairness mine are ok naturally and although very fair look a lot longer with mascara, but not as much as my sisters (or with the revitalash). It isn't worth the irritation and further drying of the eyes for me, so I stopped using the serums. If I ever have a night out or an event again, I'll just apply a little help from false lashes (either the lash trios or the lighter natural lashes for a bit more oomph). My eye health is more important to me than longer/thicker lashes, so it's a no from me. Best wishes.
ps they're very expensive to use in the long term as it is big bucks for a tiny amount of product.

I love Thrive mascara! This video was very helpful, I've been using RapidLash and RapidBrow for about 5 years, with small breaks periodically. Lately neither product is working very well (and they used to, beautifully). There's some darkish staining in my brows, but not a whole lot of growth lately. I watched a video by a dermatologist citing eyelash and brow serums and possible side effects from prostaglandin analogs. Upon checking the ingredients on my RapidLash and RapidBrow products, I found a prostaglandin analog down at the bottom of the ingredient list (despite its being touted as a safer alternative to Latisse), isopropyl cloprostenate. Wonder if that's what did the staining? Unfortunately I have a pretty large supply of backups of these products (Costco, online deals) but think I'm gonna call a halt to their use for a bit, not sure what to expect, since there hasn't been much if any growth the past 3+ months this cycle of use. I'm also concerned about my already deep-set eyes hollowing out, not a good look in my 60s!

    • @NOBSBeauty

So glad you found this helpful, it is kind of scary what some of these hidden side effects are, no one really knows about it until they start having issues, it seems. Although since I found the Thrive Mascara, I've been able to quit using the Lash products and still feel like my lashes look nice. Hopefully more people become aware of this issue before it's too late.

Just for FYI rapid lash and rapid brow do have prostaglandin analogs. Most of these companies do not put prostaglandin analogs name directly. They hide with their other names. Such as Isopropyl. Search this ingredients list which you find in the papers or note inside the package of the lash serum. They do not put the full list of ingredients in the website also. I have been using rapid lash n brow serum for a year and did also got results but i also found my eyes getting sunken look which made me to recheck the ingredients list. And I found it in note of the package mentioned as Isopropyl. I googled and I came to know Isopropyl was a prostaglandin analog which they hide. Lay people like us don't know other name of prostaglandins . I would recommend you all do proper research before putting something on lash and brows.Sunkening happens due to loosing of fat around the eyes which make us looks older.

Thank you for posting this. I have had dry eyes for many years (I don't know the reason) and I tried both Latisse and Revitalash. I followed the directions and used them for about 6 weeks each (the trials were about a year apart). I can say that both worked to grow impressive lashes, but in both cases, I developed chalazions (these are similar to styes but occur on the inside upper or lower eyelid, not on the edge). I had never had these before, and never since. This is a side effect that doesn't get much air time. Maybe that's because it only happens in a few users, but it's important to know the risks.

Anyway started latisse generic a year n half ago on lashes and brows it worked amazingly however it started changibg the color of my brow hair to white. i stopped using it bc i noticed my eyes started to look different like very aged and sunken in and more bulged out when i compare pictures to when i first started using latisse to now my lashes look great but it definetly is eating away at my orbital fat very fast and causing my eyes to look aged. When i stopped using took about two months and i had no lashes again i dont know whats worse the side effects of latisse or having no lashes and brows. I used to use the Monet for my hair. Without saying the wrong thing. I was definitely not impressed. However, I do and have been using their lash & brow enhancing serum, for approximately 2 yrs. I feel it seems pretty mild but seems to keep the leash shedding at bay. I almost never notice the eye lash cycling of normal shedding. I feel at first I saw a good improvement ( longer) not really a lot thicker. I still use it, but they charge an outrageous amount for shipping me something that weighs a couple of ounces. I am almost 74, so I probably have less success than someone younger. I honestly don’t think it has the ingredient she’s taking about in it but I’ll have to look.

I know what you mean, I love Babe Lash, but in the long run, you're right, it isn't worth it. Some of the damage will heal (like the dryness and sensitivity) but some of it does not- such as the people with blue eyes that notice pigment change, that cannot be reversed. After I've stopped using these products for about a year my eyes and dryness has gotten so much better so hopefully it will for you, too!
