Ahh great to see you back out James & with grandad keith.what is it with you two & trains lol.northern rail have been on strike for months lol...beautiful valley is the Vale of Edale I've plans to do that in summer with a camp,it's around 18 miles in total the full loop.you were right with the tumulas or tumuli, they are burial mounds dating from anything from the 5'th/6'th century's.that whole ridge where you camped is rushup edge & has great views over to kinder & down the valley.there has been substantial improvements across brown knoll,it used to an absolute nightmare walking over there very boggy but now has the nice path all way across.
great stuff as always mate, have a great Xmas & new year to yourself & kirsteen & give my best to grandad keith.tfs atb..Andy.

      Hi Andy
As far as trains are concerned I think we are totally incompetent, we have heard about the strike now lol
It’s a great walk as you say and it was nice to get some distance for a change rather than slogging our way up and just coming back down. I think the last time we went to brown knoll it was a mud bath and the trig point was about two feet out the ground exposed, they have done some great work there. I googled the Tumulas just to find out what they are (interesting stuff and glad you know your history) and it was fenced off anyway, regardless of that we wouldn’t have camped on it(watched too many walking dead!)
      Glad you like it Andy
Have a fantastic Christmas and here’s to another year of wild camps, in the meantime we can catch up with a couple of hours over Christmas.
I finally got my camera and mic working(got rid of the go pro 6 as it was faulty) how I want so hopefully I can get out more next year, as long as it’s not by train!
      All the best.
      Regards
      James

One to remember James, I was waiting for you two to say you'd had enough, but you stuck it out, good for you.. You have a fantastic mic/dead cat set up btw, the wind sounded hurrendos at times and yet you were as clear as a bell.. So Grandad Kieth had a Vango tent? That's what I have, so hope mine can stand up to the battering winds too if needed.. Some fantastic views you still managed to get of the Peak district, really did a good job on this video.. Throughly enjoyed this it although made me feel nervous about my own adventure, but still on plan.. ;) You guys did well.. Loved it.. Now do another one please, soon.. :)

Hi Great to here from you and thanks for the positive comments.
The mic is a rode video micro with dead kitten and one of Kirsteens ankle tights stretched over the top so it doesn’t look so big, and all wind reduction turned off on the go pro. Speaking of which, I got rid of the go pro 6 it caused me nothing but trouble. Intermittently recording sound and recording audio out of sync, in the end they replaced it with the go pro 7 and that worked perfectly so far. Keith’s vango copes better than mine with the wind, but my tent has more room, I am sure you will be fine👍 So what’s the date for the wild camp ? It’s been a while coming.
Hopefully I can get a few more videos out next year, especially now I have the camera situation under control.
      All the best.
      Regards
      James.

@@wasdalemanexploringoutdoor5137 At the moment the date is set for the 13th March.. Buying the kit for a winter wild camp has been an issue, it's not cheap as you know, but almost there.. I may not get up a big peaks, as I have calculated I will be carrying around 16 kilos max.. But I think for my first ones some respectable camps can be found at some of the tarns.. I'm going all public transport from here, so hoping the trains are on time and not on strike.. ;) Have my eye on a pub or two though.. ;)

Lovely video gents, I remember watching the last one you two made on your Ringing Roger overnighter a year ago which was good watching too. Think you done well braving it out in those tents with that wind. When you asked grandad Keith what was his best bit I was expecting him to reply 'the pub' lol. Just subbed so I can catch up the other vids on your channel, somehow I missed them. Atb Bill.

Thanks Bill I really appreciate the comment.
I am hoping to upgrade my tent soon for more peace of mind in the future, it’s always a bit of a worry with the north face. That’s why I always have a back out/walk off plan. I been purposely not been rushing into replacing it, due to having so many tents!
Thanks for subscribing, I’ve subbed back 👍
      Regards

Good going in the end James. The wind picked up but it wasn't as intrusive as you first envisaged. Good laugh in the tent - you two get on well. That was a real fabulous hike and camp - a nice loop. Was the taxi waiting after the train? Have a great week. Mark

      Hi Mark
We had some good fortune with the wind calming down in the end, I am just not convinced with that north face tent. Maybe Santa could change that, you never know. We always have a good laugh on our hikes, it’s great to get away from literally everything but it just takes some doing. There was no need for a taxi, luckily there was a train. That’s the point we realised that there has been six weeks of train strikes over weekend periods, who knew ? Thanks for taking the time to comment, have a fantastic Christmas and I hope you get out.
      Regards
      James

@@wasdalemanexploringoutdoor5137 There are some great lightweight tents on unltralight outdoor gear. bit.ly/2rPJRld check out the link. Yeah I knew their was a train back but I wondered about the other end. Still, a great time with gramps. It's worth the time and effort. Have a great week yourself. A pleasure to comment.
