Yeah. It was a lose-lose situation and Shirou tried to sacrifice his arm to save his big sister figure. It was a really hard decision for him to make.
What people don't know or realize is that if Shirou didn't stop Saber, Taiga would have been killed. =/
TheAnimeRoom there's an even worse scenario where caster uses taiga as a meatshield, taiga dies and caster gets saber anyway. it wasn't just a lose-lose, it was a super-omega-ultra-lose-lose-lose.
Damn right. I think that the only ones who understand are my fello VN readers. Ufotable is great, but they slipped a few times. They didn't add the shed scene before the fight against Kuzuki, didn't properly show the fact that Tiaga was being strangled and that Shirou had noticed. And they keep giving screen time to Rin when they should use it for Shirou's monologues, which are really important to understand his character. Hopefully, they will repair this problem in the Blu Ray version which has 90 minutes of additional scenes.
TheAnimeRoom Yeah, and Saber didn't care that much about Taiga. She is Lawful Good and all, but she cares more about her part in the War than a hostage she barely knows. In the VN she said to Shirou 'give up Taiga'. Not to mention that if she fought against Caster, she would have lost since Caster was in her territory with True Magic as an option, infinite Dragon Tooth Warriors who can be a problem for Servants when in great numbers, and she essentially has infinite mana as she has no qualms in absorbing souls. And she can fly, bombarding Shirou and Rin even if Saber can nullify her magecraft.
That bridge has a lot of story, so much that it has even seen Cthulhu
When the first episode of season 2 will air on April 4, you should do a Live Reaction compilation for the scene when... (SPOILERS INCOMING)
...Archer betrays Rin right in front of Caster and then Caster stabs Archer with Rule Breaker.
I mean, just look at those six RUclipsrs react to Archer at 12:00. They react to Archer like he's Levi from Attack on Titan (heck, both Archer and Levi are similar for being THE badasses of their respective shows).
Just imagine those RUclipsrs' reactions when they'll see Archer betraying Rin to join Caster's side. They'd probably freak out, screaming to Archer to not do it, and they'll feel very sorry for Rin at the same time b/c she'll be in tears during the entire scene (Rin crying was confirmed in one of the season two commercials). If I had to describe a better visual of what to expect, imagine your reaction if Levi decided to join the enemy's side in AoT (enemy's side referring to either the titans' side or the Central Military Police). Yeah, you'd be pretty shocked.
I feel like I've been bringing up this whole betrayal scene quite a lot across my comments lately, but it's mainly because I'm looking to see the reactions to that scene from those that are new to UBW, one that will very likely be what I described above.
Even tho it was written somewhere that Archer is actually Shirou but in future.(That explains why Archer does not remember what Heroic Spirit he is)

オリジナルシーンなんだけどね...セイバーには出来ずとも、アーチャーは魔術スキル持ってるので一応矛盾はない。いざとなればあの弓はカラドボルグ(空間ごと捻じ曲げる効果がある宝具)を使ったと言えば問題ないし。
