Stewpot. What a legend!!! Junior Choice still on every Christmas Day and he still never plays my request. LOL!! I am 47 this year and still waiting to have Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West) played. Some day!! LOL
Was so sad to hear of Ed's passing, such a good broadcaster. He wasn't treated particularly well by the BBC having his afternoon show axed in 99 to make way for Steve Wright and his Sunday show axed in 2006 to make way for Johnnie Walker
Must have been a bit confusing for presenters and listeners alike when Radios 1 & 2 broadcast identical shows: PRESENTER: Am I on Radio 1 or Radio 2? PARENTS LISTENING AT HOME TO RADIO 2: Can someone please tune my radio back to Radio 2! I’m getting Radio 1 here! CHILD: It’s on Radio 2! (Gets clipped around the ear for lying!). CHILD AT NIGHT: This can’t be Radio 1! They’re playing brass bands and orchestral music and show tunes! Where are Tavares and Boney M? Even The Beatles and The Stones would be better than this tosh! Sounds like I am listening to a washing machine on the spin cycle! (That’s how it sounded like on 247 metres - even after the changeover, there was little improvement!).
Yes, I can remember when I first thought mum had got just a bit trendy when she was listening to the (Radio 1) David Hamilton show on her radio which never shifted from Radio 2... then it was explained that it was all down to BBC budget cuts in the mid 70's!
From midnight to 5.00am now it is back to back repeats or "playlists" which is another way for a presenter to pre-record an hour of music. Pathetic, whereas the independent stations have proper presenters through the night.
Sad to say goodbye to another broadcasting legend... and the voice of my childhood weekend breakfasts.

may Ed Stewart rest in peace
Another classic upload, many thanks.
Thanks Ed....
The changes took place on November 28 when Blackburn took over in the afternoon and David on Radio 2
Thanks for the detailed info - it's been so hard to date some of this material as I didn't log it when I hit "Play" & "Record" all those years ago!
Lovely voice, lovely presenter, lovely everything! Radio 1 and 2 have changed a bit since then, didn't they?
Indeed... but then, haven't we all? :)
Sorry to be a geek but just checked genome and it appears to be Wednesday 23rd November!
Wow - don't apologise David... you've no idea how hard it's been trying to date some of this stuff. Really appreciate it!
where can you purchase like 3 /4 hours of this uninterrupted?
I wish I met him

Didn't know he was axed, thought he retired in 2006, the older broadcasters didn't seem to fluff their lines like they do these days
I agree David & said exactly the same thing on another youtube clip (junior choice clip). The DJs nowadays are dreadful.
Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart.

When Radio two was decent, good to listen to, not the annoying rubbish it is now.
