    I have completed Wing Chun and picked up Choy Li Fut and Hop Gar. Choy Li Fut has a lot of power, structure and momentum. Some of the hands in Choy Li Fut damage Wing Chun’s centerline principles. Choy Li Fut destroys the opponents bridge. Beautiful art.

    This fighting is from the shaolin temple. It uses the five animal system. It has roots dating back to 1800s. Grand Master Doc Fai Wong was for many of years teaching in U.S. and returned back to China. There is a lineage of five generations to the art. Those that have studied it truly respect it.

    Right here is a real good example how self defense differs from sports fighting. In Choy Lay Fu you are using basically the punch you'd never use in MMA. Its a round house punch. In the ring, it can be seen coming a mile away. But in a street fight you need to get it over right now! There is no ref gonna save you. So, taking a chance on a big round house makes since. If you miss, you have practiced in this style what to do next. Practicing keeps you from over committing. I mean, hey, its what John Wayne used🤔😁.

      the problem with YOU assessment, is that YOU have no idea of the hows, whys, whens or where that we will throw that big round house punch that YOU CLAIM to see a mile away. WE LAUGH at that idea. cause we HIT our opponents with em all the time and in the past have killed someone with that strike. please don't talk for us. we don't agree with your assessment.

    Choy Lay Fut came from Xinhui, Guangdong China. My wife is from Jiangmen, Guangdong China. When I go to visit my wife in China, we visit the home of Chan Heung; the founder of Choy Lay Fut. Xinhui is part of Jiangmen and not Foshan. In fact, Choy Lay Fut was never from Foshan. Choy Lay Fut was only traditionally taught to people from Xinhui and Jiangmen. This is the local tradition. Foshan is famous for Hung Ga and not Choy Lay Fut. I practice and train in Lam Ga Hung Kuen. Lam Ga Hung Kuen is from Foshan and Hong Kong. It was never native to Xinhui or Jiangmen.
    Xinhui and Jiangmen are famous for Choy Lay Fut kung fu. Whenever I travel around the city of Jiangmen and I see kung fu schools advertised, 90% of the time they are Choy Lay Fut schools. Even my wife took Choy Lay Fut kung fu when she was a girl. This is the local tradition.
    Foshan does not represent Choy Lay Fut.
    Xinhui in Jiangmen represents Choy Lay Fut.
    This Choy Lay Fut Master in the video cut out Xinhui and Jiangmen and only mentioned Foshan.
    Choy Lay Fut is the traditional kung fu from Xinhui Jiangmen and NOT Foshan.
    This kung fu Master should be mentioning this.
    Back in the day if he was not from Xinhui Jiangmen, no one would have taught him Choy Lay Fut because he is from Foshan.
    Chan Heung only taught people from his region and not from Foshan.

    To those that say "KUNGFU IS USELESS WITHOUT MMA" ....probably think Jogging is useless unless you run marathons, exercise is useless unless you are in the Olympics, cooking's useless unless you are a master chef, LIFE is useless unless you are famous. Those in kungfu also learn culture, history, manners, Chinese languages, travel to different lands, and more. These folks will be in great health even in their 80s and 90s. Not so for someone that has his head is pounded into the ground in a regular basis. Being proud of only fighting skill is so limiting..there is more to life.

When they went to restaurants occasionally the emperor would pour tea for the body guards. This is of course against the protocol because you don't have the emperor serving tea to anybody. If this is in the court people can do the kowtow thing to thank the emperor but you can't do this in the public lest you will expose yourself. So the body guards tap their finger on the table instead as a way to kowtow to the emperor secretly. This practice evolves and today becomes a way of saying thank you to the person pouring tea for you. This practice is probably more common in Southern China today I think.

      You have to realize it's not that Chinese martial arts isn't effective anymore. People simply don't understand how to utilize them because they refuse to get into fights.
      UFC fighters using BJJ all had to lose 500 fights in the gym before they get into a real ring. From the day they start learning, they're going to be losing 2-3 fights per week for the first 2-3 years before they start winning some, most will not be going into the real ring until they've gotten well over 5 years of experience.
      All these people learning Chinese martial arts won't even go into ONE full contact spar session, how can they expect to fight?
      Here's some examples of when UFC fighters starts applying some techniques from Chinese Martial Arts

      The problem with those wushu forms is that they've been altered to look pretty, so the actual usage is long lost.

      No traditional style can ever win in MMA, that is not the point of traditional styles. It is like asking if a calligrapher can write more effectively than a keyboard.
      They are cultural heritage and each focuses on a certain philosophy and aspect of fighting and aesthetics, however they are all incomplete and too ornate as fighting techniques.
      Good MMA fighters can incorporate some aspects of some traditional arts into their fighting.

    • @alvinkoh5556
      @alvinkoh5556 4 года назад

      DonVoghano then it’s a waste of energy and time. It’s call stylish but impractical. Good showmanship though.

    • @DonVoghano
      @DonVoghano 4 года назад +3

      @@alvinkoh5556 I mean, you can say the same about calligraphy, no? People who practice traditional martial arts can enjoy the culture, philosophy, showmanship and generally get health benefits from the lower intensity of confrontation and focus on form-kata "dances," plus a little real life edge vs untrained people.
      MMA practitioners are for sure the toughest fighters in the world but if they really are serious and wanna be strong they will go around with broken noses, brain concussions, arthritis and cauliflower ears. Really it all depends on your lifestyle and personal goals.
