A visually stunning video and a very fair minded peek into the future of the sim. For those of us who remember when MSFS was full price repurchase every two years to get essentially incremental improvements, this 4 year model which has included free monthly patches and free DLC, and in the case of 2024 a total code rewrite, the next 4 years look rosy! Thanks AvAngel and have a Happy New Year!
Constructive criticism is the key. I for one love dawn and evening flights in FS2024, just beautiful. Fs2020 was a buggy sim when released which took time to mature. FS2024 in a year will be the sim that is the benchmark. All the best for the new year folks.
Love your videos, and enjoyed your comments! As probably most of your viewers, I love bush flying and helicopters, and for me both work quite well in MSFS2024. Sure there are lots of bugs, but the sim runs very stable and smoothly on my four year old mid-range PC.
Luckily for me, I remember 2020's launch, and also things like No Man's Sky and on and on. We've come to accept that we won't get new games (I'm an actual pilot so I use this game as a sim, because it's also a sim) in a completed state. It's just a fact unfortunately. But it will come, it will be better, it's more or less a new engine for the simulation. Also, being FROM Arizona, I can confirm that every single time I've gone up to the Canyon it' just beautiful and incredible and I'm so glad you got to see it and you're showing off 2024's version of it! Now I also will say that with a high speed connection and wired to my network directly, loading up many new aircraft, particularly jets, it takes a good 4-5 minutes for all of the switches and displays to load up, and that's also with good internet, so I'm really really looking forward to things being updated. Oh, that and having to reinstall the sim, twice now, due to crash on startup with some odd error messages. Anyway, thank you again AA for a beautiful flight and more of your reviews, this time of the sim itself.
Yep I agree. What I keep saying that some seem to not realize. Back in the Atari days of the 80s, players were represented by squares and the game works was blocks. Games had a single button joystick with two functions. Fast forward to 2024 and we are talking about Flight Sim 2020/2024 which recreates digital version of our entire world down to the 5x5 spot I stand on at my beach. Now in 24 we can get out and walk. No Man's Sky created an entire digital universe said to take trillions of actual humans years to explore. Extremely complicated and enormous projects. No matter the budget or how big a team, these games will never be launched without issues. Software never is perfect. Nothing in our own world or lives are perfect and never will be. I expected issues because I know how it is to develop full games. People should set realistic expectations for a project this huge. A bit more testing would of been better but still not enough. Always room for more testing and still have issues. That's the business.
Thanks for all your content as I think I've watched most everyone of your videos. I value your opinion and reviews and agree with you 100% regarding MSFS 2024, the future of the sim looks awesome. Glad you got to see the Grand Cayon as I have a place very close to it and visit often. Stunning every time I see it. Best wishes for a wonderful New Year.
I have one of the two sweetspot VR sets: Pimax Crystal Light. 5800X3D, 4070 (not super not ti). Performance is great in 2024, no issues, no problems. The other reasonable choice (cheaper) is the Quest 3.
The Grand Canyon is so impressive both IRL and in-sim. Something fun to do is to fly the Jetson One into it. You can land that thing basically anywhere and take back off again when you’re done. I took it all the way down to the river and landed on a rocky beach, got out, and walked around. There are foot bridges down there, camp sites, and tons of trails. Being able to do this kind of thing has turned 2024 into something very different to me than what 2020 was. It’s become more of a full “travel simulator” than just a flight simulator. It simulates more than the trip to get to a destination-it simulates the destination. This highlights some of the limitations in legacy content though. I don’t think that the photogrammetry is worse per se than in 2020, for example, but 2024 lets you get closer to it. Flying over a PG city in a helicopter in 2020 you can see that a tree filled park is full of tree-shaped mounds, which you don’t notice as much flying faster and higher in a plane. But in 2024, if you land that chopper and get out, suddenly those trees become *walls* and prevent you from entering the park at all, like you could in a non-PG park. In 2020 you couldn’t do that at all so it didn’t really matter. I think that, barring compatibility issues and the like that keep the sim from even running, how much you like 2024 depends on what you like to do. I like to fly bush planes like the Draco and Norden into small airstrips in the middle of nowhere (or helos into random clearings), get out, and walk around. I’m lucky in that respect because the Got Friends planes are some of the best in the sim, those little airstrips are in non-PG areas and don’t have the stutter bugs that some big airports have, and I do this in free flight mode which means that the career mode bugs don’t affect me. If I liked to fly airliners, or do missions for other people, I would have a very different experience.
I'm flying FlyInside's helis, they do the same for me as your bushplanes.... In my case, I'm using the sim for the same reasons; to see interesting, out-of-the-way places you can only get to by helicopter.
Helicopters are great for this too. I like to fly the Cabri G2 and the H225. I've put those down in some offbeat places purely so I could get out and explore on foot (and snap pictures)
Thanks for the nice update and insight, I sure appreciate you and your channel. Also, thank you for inspiring me to explore more bush flying shenanigans! You've helped me discover maybe the coolest way to enjoy these sims. Merry Christmas to you!
Not surprised they nailed the area you stayed. They did the same with Seattle back in 2019 at that media reveal (although to be fair the hotel we stayed in was not modeled at all, and I called them out on it). Not sure if they did the same for Portland when the 40th anniversary edition was coming out.
It's insane how they must have cherry picked what people could do and see when they invited people to come and try the sim, it is nothing at all like they experienced. Nothing.
I visited the Grand Canyon in 2012, and it really does take your breath away. It was the first place I visited in FS2020 and FS2024. The difference is unbelievable. I'm playing on Xbox series X with a 53 mbs connection, and I'm getting smooth performance throughout. The scenery in photogrammetry cities sometimes struggles, but as I mainly fly small aircraft from small airports, I can't complain. Some of my aircraft and scenery from 2020 haven't appeared on the sim though, and the ship traffic is non existent. I love the photo mode, and I've got my pilots licence, and I'm starting my career. I love the paragliding too.
Been away from home PC for 6+ weeks now; long time 2020 helicopter flyer. Watched 2024 being launched from afar, hopefully by mid January bugs will have diministed when I install 2024. Can't wait to fly my Bell 47 through that area. It's videos like yours Avangel that make it all worthwhile, merry Christmas.
Some seriously impressive footage , the view from your para sail is starting to look very close to what I would imagine the real world looks like from a para sail flying at the same altitude.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. I did this very slow tour a year ago in MS2020 but using a Hype helicopter. I was using it to explore whether MSFS2020 could accurately show me places i’ve never visited. Even then it was pretty good and fun. I’m glad you show alternative experiences one can have - bush, glider, GA, paragliding, … Nice.
Thanks for your objectivity. I’m on Xbox SX and because of a mouse problem I can’t actually use the sim so I’m back on 2020 and just waiting. I know it will get better. I think PC flyers will get there faster. For Xbox the launch effectively never happened. On the upside I just bought the Cowan sim R22 on sale and it’s very good.
Thanks Av Angel, agree with all the other comments. You make this channel unique, combining education, some serious flying skills and a heap of fun in the process. Blessings for Christmas and New Year.
Thank you, that was very good even had the entrance on the road just as I remember it to be, and when the canyon came into view it was like seeing the real thing. Tomorrow I am going to load that airfield and do this flight. Looking forward to this. Wouldn’t it be great if you could fly a paraglider and hill soar.
Those of us that remember the FSX era and remember that there was no spark in the community, yeah there was FSX, XP, and there was the launch of Prepar3d. But there were zero indications that it was ever going to really get better and something as simple as VFR flight would never be something that was truly possible in a retail flight sim. Then came 2020 and now 2024. Are there issues? Yes. Is it going to get much better? Yes. But to tell the truth, I would rather have a broken 2024 then to go back to FSX every day of the week and then some. This is the difference between someone that is upset that the game they bought was not as advertised and someone with a passion for flight simulation that realizes how much better it has all become.
Thanks Rachel for another GREAT video. Agree 100% with your view on 2024. Still enjoying trouble free flying in 2020 when I need it to just work. Can’t wait till 2024 finally behaves as it should. Happy New Year and hope to join you in the virtual skies soon.
Thanks so much for your time and effort in producing this informative video for us. I have a mid spec PC, RTX 3070 and just a 1080 wide screen monitor. I suspect I’ll be at the ragged end of 2024 and your information has convinced me to wait at least 6 months and probably upgrading my components prior to attempting 2024. Sincerely appreciate your honest opinions, and as always, your excellent videos. You’re one of the very best to watch and learn from.
I purchased FS24 about 8 days post release and removed FS20 before installing. I have not looked back. I have had very little in the way of issues with the game, but that may be because I purely play Free Flight. From what I have seen most of the issues come from playing missions/Career Mode. Loved your video.
Avangel, Did you ask or know what system Asorbo used at their grand canyon event as far as hardware specs? Were they using $10,000 top of the line cpu, gpu, Ram & hard drive options. Hardware 90% won't have access to for 3-4 years until price drops until it's reasonable for someone to invest $2500-4000 & no longer as expensive.
In hindsight I didn’t ask but should have… however the support people there were contractors and didn’t know quite a lot so chances are didn’t know themselves
I flew to the Grand Canyon in 40 knot winds. Not cool. More than half of the passengers chucked up. My DSLR memory card corrupted. I was staying at the Paris in Las Vegas.
If MS flew you to Arizona well that's your good fortune and I haven't heard you rabbit on and boast about it endlessly. I had to incrementally rebuild my 2019 spec rig to handle 2024: M2 SSD's, then graphics card, NOW joystick! lolol. I enjoy your content and perspective thank you. 😉
Yet another great and interesting video. Yes, there are plenty of things wrong still with 2024 and if you go looking you can find much to complain about. BUT..there is plenty right as well and if you just want to enjoy the sim experience it is not difficult. Already it is totally different from its release and is constantly improving. It is a long term adventure, sometimes things are not right but there is more than enough to keep most entertained without frustration. I still use 2020 for aircraft not yet available in 2024 but this is the future for the next few years and I would rather enjoy the journey as it matures than complain....
@@AvAngel I agree but perfection does take some of the fun out of life!! I suspect many of the complainers are trying to use addons that are not compatible and then blaming the sim for their problems.
Yes we all want and hope that 2024 will eventually become everything we hoped it would be but listening and reading some of the content…Talk about the emperor’s new clothes??!
Microsoft fan girl let me laugh out loud for you. It's a potential amazing game with a bad start. But one thing that I instantly recognised was how it gives me a better feeling for the apeed. I never had this in 2020. Not sure what's the difference but it feels more realistic
Happy Holidays AvAngel! BTW finally subscribed. This scenery looks amazing and much better than beloved 2020. That said, I'm still waiting for Asobo/M$ to get rid of the nasty bugs that continue to frustrate so many 2024 buyers [beta-ers?], at least according to the ongoing negative comments I read. I'm a VFR lovin' former IRL pilot and aircraft owner. I love the majesty of low and slow flights on a gorgeous day eagerly anticipating what's just over the horizon. I'm a seat of the pants flyer and don't need no stinkin' autopilot crutch to have fun! Yeah, I agree that in time 2024 will be absolutely stunning, hopefully sooner than later. And I do hope Microsoft learned its lesson and won't again allow another train wreck of a launch in the future. _Microsoft Flight_ anyone? Anyway, time will tell. Cheers from Thailand! 😁
It looks great, but why oh why did they change the settings GUI?I can't really be happy with it untill they get the Tobii head tracking working and modify the settings interface for it,at the moment its just inexplicable and before anyone mentions a workaround for Tobii just pause and think,WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO USE A WORKAROUND!!....................................
2024 continues to surprise me in the way it runs on different systems. I fly in VR and have taken a similar flight from the same airport. All the way to the canyon my FPS tanked, I have the same issues whenever flying low over forests or jungle. As soon as I crossed over the canyon edge no problem. I agree with you that the SIM will be amazing and for me the biggest improvement is the lighting.
Nice, balanced, video. 2024 is slowly becoming my daily driver. So many aircraft to fly (I went for the Aviator Edition). Am I going to uninstall 2020? Not on your nelly. Like many have found the transition of payware into 2024 isn't as plain sailing as we were initially led to believe. Practically all of my payware has one issue or another. For the time being I'm only planning on installing native FREEWARE. Love that word.
The biggest issue right now is that so many missions bug out after investing hours in a flight. If feels like we’re getting our first taste of AI-hallucination laden bugs because it’s much cheaper and theoretically faster to rely on AI tools.
@ oh yeah no worries on that! From what I have read it may be down to that function just not being available yet on Xbox. Love you content, you and cgaviator are my favorite simmers! V1 is great too haha!
So refreshing after reading crybaby posts on Reddit all day. It's like no one was around for the much worse 2020 launch. I mean it's Microsoft...what do you expect (coming from a sys admin that's been working with them for years!) It'll get better!
What kind of thinking came to the conclusion that people actually want to do flight schools before they can do missions ? The one thing in 2024 that was appealing was the missions but not in my wildest dreams did I think they would put them behind a training wall which some of us neither need or want to do. It's stupid and hopefully Microsoft will change this to make missions accessible to everyone who just wants to have a go at them.
@@AvAngel Easy or not users should not be forced down a route that the software creators think they want to be forced down. Why do I want to do training when I have thousands of hours logged already ?
I know what you mean, but the training is optional, you can just do the tests which only takes a couple of minutes. Still a nuisance, but at least it's not necessary to go through every training flight.
@@deanna6359 So if the training is optional then so should the tests be. Like I say hopefully they will change this (along with a lot of other things).
GPU-bound FPS in 2024 is tragically destroyed by their new trees, especially fir trees. So, areas of dense coverage, it destroys (GPU) performance. That's what's wrong where you were flying.
Oh dear. Yeah. I'm avoiding the ms forums because of blanket generic non descript complaints without data or exactly describing what the problem was. Or is. Like last night. What did I do? Bloody it's never been this good in VR. DONT TOUCH ANYTHING. LOL. I'm so tired of the blanket lemmings complaints.
It's a ball of bugs, it was a pushed cash-grab, it is more than a little tiring to see but a couple of content creators say it like it is. They really , really , really hurt the community.
Isn’t it a little odd that only a couple of historically negative creators are the only ones making hate content? Not really. It’s derpy and has issues but It will get better, I have patience and I have hope. 20 launched worse and got far better. It’s not a cash grab, but it was far too soon. Negativity benefits nothing considering.
Yea, immense potential to have reasonably functional ATC by sometime in Feb 3099. But all streamers invited to AZ, either use no ATC, or they use add-on ATC, or they use VATSIM; requiring NOTHING from MSFS developers to deliver an at least reasonable ATC. Same as usual with the weather, AI, aircraft, and scenery. Excuses galore for MS, and anybody requiring MS to deliver what they advertise is wrong, unreasonable, and they are banned. Sold as a "journey" and streamers follow suit. No streamer uses and posts FULL unedited flights in the base sim as advertised including default ATC, default AI, default aircraft, NO add-on scenery, and default real weather. The diversion of "servers" and "no game is released w/o problems/bugs" is proof that this community is mostly delusional and foolish. An undeserved free pass for MSFS - streamers should be so proud of themselves for contributing to and prolonging this stupidity. Post the proof and frustration of the problems instead of making excuses for MSFS, maybe something will get done - But that would be honest and true; surely streamers can't do that, or they won't get free products and trips all over the world. All the while a vast majority support all this plain deception.
Uh I do flights with default sim in full length as do many others so perhaps some truth eh? I already told you that I was being honest and what I did with ms.. one event and I went from totally truthful to corporate shill eh? Stop looking for reasons to hate and validate your own feelings of negativity. Yes it’s not perfect , hell it’s far from it. It needs to grow a lot, is it worth crapping on them? No. Is it worth attacking creators? No… we work hard for you guys, not them .
@@AvAngel you just posted a beautiful grand canyon flight with clear skies and NO ATC and NO real time AI at all - so you be honest and post the full truth in every post, then try and judge me. Talking about the issues is NOTHING like posting them real time unedited and making it totally honest. And I'm not the one who is full of hate, MSFS and its collaborators are full of hate. Just like 2020 has been carried by streamers, so will 2024 until the hate for aviation perpetrated by MSFS and the liars who make it out to be not so bad by their beautiful vids ceases. In other words, I hate the hatred that MSFS started and continues. But beautiful screenshots and vids contribute to the ongoing problems --so who is hating? SHOW don't TELL
Why would I make a video in real time at night? Hard to see the canyon, same with bad weather… please apply a little context as to why I might fly in certain conditions! Why on earth do Microsoft hate flight or aviation? That makes no sense!
@@AvAngel why post a vid at the grand canyon? we have seen enough of that! Real weather, real time, pick a place that is full of traffic issues and bad scenery; there are plenty of choices - stop posting add-on airports and add-on planes - post default planes with all the problems and frustrations then you will be seen as honest. The main thing is this community has to stop covering for MSFS and finally bring results of what they advertise. All the bug reports on the official forum have done NOTHING to bring results because streamers keep painting a "all is (will be) well" theme daily over and over, when all is NOT well...this is true hatred for the whole community - honest provable complaints are not hatred for the community.
@@deanna6359 I never forced anybody to be a streamer, nor would I be one. But it's funny how you think its ok for you to tell me what to do while you tell me it's not ok to do that. Another hypocrite exposed. Would it not be better to tell me how my point is wrong? But you can't because I'm totally correct - but try if you want, and I will show you how truth never fails.
I must complain about the lack of complaints
lol I mean… yeah

Yup, I’ve had some spins in 20 recently too just to enjoy a or b
I’m mostly free mode too
Love you and your videos. Have a great 2025
Avangel,
Did you ask or know what system Asorbo used at their grand canyon event as far as hardware specs?
Were they using $10,000 top of the line cpu, gpu, Ram & hard drive options.
Hardware 90% won't have access to for 3-4 years until price drops until it's reasonable for someone to invest $2500-4000 & no longer as expensive.
In hindsight I didn’t ask but should have… however the support people there were contractors and didn’t know quite a lot so chances are didn’t know themselves
Thanks Av. I'll keep my powder dry till the dust settles a bit then. :)
To be fair, it took fs2020 an entire year to run reasonably problem free. So I think we are doing much better already with 2024...
I wish it was perfect on launch… instant transition to 24 from 20 but I’ll manage… we all will
@@AvAngel I agree but perfection does take some of the fun out of life!! I suspect many of the complainers are trying to use addons that are not compatible and then blaming the sim for their problems.
Yes we all want and hope that 2024 will eventually become everything we hoped it would be but listening and reading some of the content…Talk about the emperor’s new clothes??!
How long until we see one doing 500 knts?
Half an hour lol
Microsoft fan girl let me laugh out loud for you. It's a potential amazing game with a bad start. But one thing that I instantly recognised was how it gives me a better feeling for the apeed. I never had this in 2020. Not sure what's the difference but it feels more realistic
I think you’re right, it does have more sense of motion than 20. But what do I know I’m paid to tell you it’s faster lol
That terminal gives me Tesco's vibes.
It’ll be ready for prime time mid ‘25
Maybe
Ignore most of the hate comments, to the free flight enjoying vfr pilot it’s honestly fine now
Until the issues with VR are ironed out I can't enjoy 2024 ATM but lately been having a blast again In IL-2 VR.
Next do the M24 autogyro
It looks great, but why oh why did they change the settings GUI?I can't really be happy with it untill they get the Tobii head tracking working and modify the settings interface for it,at the moment its just inexplicable and before anyone mentions a workaround for Tobii just pause and think,WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO USE A WORKAROUND!!....................................
My headtracking worked flawlessly with free track straight away
It's the trees, lots of trees and the FPS tanks. They are a large hit on both the GPU and CPU.
Love your videos and keep up the good work.
Weirdly not a factor for me as it runs great in forested British Columbia
Yup, I’d agree with that perspective. Still desperately awaiting duckworth 24 for the dc3. AH barely made it 24 compatible
They loaded up my 2020 planes in 2024. None of them worked. Then they removed 2o2o planes. Then some were added back. They did not work again
Yeah them being added was a mistake,
The biggest issue right now is that so many missions bug out after investing hours in a flight. If feels like we’re getting our first taste of AI-hallucination laden bugs because it’s much cheaper and theoretically faster to rely on AI tools.
Quite possibly, I’ve been Luchs do far with only one or two bugged out missions
My only complaint is I still can’t figure out how to see people in multiplayer haha. I’m on a Series X for reference
I’m afraid I’m useless there I’m on pc sorry!
@ oh yeah no worries on that! From what I have read it may be down to that function just not being available yet on Xbox.
Love you content, you and cgaviator are my favorite simmers! V1 is great too haha!
Merci!
I try to keep positive but critical because there is no stock in anger
Well done!
I really LIKE you!
So refreshing after reading crybaby posts on Reddit all day. It's like no one was around for the much worse 2020 launch. I mean it's Microsoft...what do you expect (coming from a sys admin that's been working with them for years!) It'll get better!
True enough, this is kinda normal even if it shouldn’t be
What kind of thinking came to the conclusion that people actually want to do flight schools before they can do missions ? The one thing in 2024 that was appealing was the missions but not in my wildest dreams did I think they would put them behind a training wall which some of us neither need or want to do. It's stupid and hopefully Microsoft will change this to make missions accessible to everyone who just wants to have a go at them.
The training is stupidly easy tbf, it’s not even a challenge

Mmm most likely true
Oh dear.
