This song got me through one of the biggest transitions of my life. I gave birth to a baby girl without the dad in the picture. I would listen to this while I rocked her to sleep for months. It gave me strength in my choices. His toxic pain ended with me. Not my daughter. History will repeat itself until somebody is ready to feel it & heal it.. he didn't want to break the patterns. So I broke it for the sake of my daughter. To me this song has 3 stories. Mine. His. & Hers. Little girl you are not cursed by his ancestry. Bc I took you away from his darkness & agony. I will always hold you above all the misery. I opened my eyes & I'm glad that I got here. Thank you for this beautiful song. 💜
Hey, we are here with you. May God bless your daughter. All the best wishes to you and your beautiful daughter. Congratulations for having an angel (your daughter) sent to you!♥️
I had a similar experience right as my son was born except it was with my own father. The end of this song will always mean more to me than I could ever explain to anyone, except probably you. We can both be happy to open our eyes and be glad that we got here. I wish you nothing but the best!
Vilifying a person's father can have disastrous effects later down the line (psychologically speaking), just ask me. I'm glad you could leverage the power of music to help you through a difficult time, but you'd do well to stamp out that narrative before your daughter is old enough to understand/internalize it.
This song has saved my life. Grieving for over 2 years. I understand the science of this song. It hurts, but it's true. And then there's hope for tomorrow ❤

Why do I deserve the science To feel better about you At a loss I lost my cool I denied that I found you I tried to be a basket case I did not surprise you I'm trying to find a signal fire Let me know when I should move But you, amplified in the silence Justified in the way you make me bruise Magnified in the science Anatomically proved that you don't need me Why do I decide the space? I was mourning after you I was lost and lost my shape There was nothing I could do I don't want to waste away It was all I gave to you Take me back and take my place I will rise right up for you But you, amplified in the silence Justified in the way you make me bruise Magnified in the science Anatomically proved that you don't need me All the while you waste away, you're asking "Did I really need another one to take me down?" Everybody knows it's something that you had to live with darling Nobody's gonna tear you down now There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection There was nothing but quiet retractions And families pleading, "Don't look in that cabinet There's far more bad than there's good, I don't know how it got there" That was something your father had burned in me 20 hours out of Homestake eternity You can go anywhere but you are where you came from Little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry There is nothing but darkness and agony I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking Let me watch you as close as a memory Let me hold you above all the misery Let me open my eyes and be glad that I got here Little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry There is nothing but darkness and agony I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking

Whoever decided to include an ad when the drop's about to kick in over 12 months after this video first went live should never be allowed to listen to music again.
Looking forward to seeing this. The album version is great, but the live version is something else entirely. Just about everything that's ever been great about Manchester Orchestra can be found in this song.
OsidiustheEmphatic Manchester Orchestra is one of those rare artists that are 1000 times better live than studio recorded. The album version is already amazing but If you go to a MO concert expecting to hear them play the album version of your favorite songs you will quickly find out that your not going to get that, instead you are going to receive the album version magnified to a whole new realm , raw, and better then could have ever thought possible. It's as if they go into the studio, wrote and record the greatest songs ever, then go on tour and every night fine tune them on the fly, as if to say "well yea you have the album and have listened to it a million times so we are going to give you something better than that and it's for your show and your show only" . Lol There is just something that they are able to do live that can't be captured in a studio. If you are lucky enough to see them live with their hometown buddy band O'BROTHER then you are in for the most amazing treat ever, guaranteed to have hair raising goosebumps and great vibes from start to finish. They don't dramatically change the songs and revision them like COPE vs HOPE, but just slightly hear and there so it's like no matter how many times you listened to the songs it's like your hearing and experiencing it for the first time all over again. I have gotten to see MO many many times over the years from the regular touring shows to the annual The Stuffing shows since they are from my hometown, so I for one know. Amazing artist.
This is absolutely beautiful. I hurt inside for both of these men. Nothing saddens me more than thinking of others depressed so bad they even think of ending it. You all are important? It can get better. I suffer at times but I will not let my health sadden me to where I take myself away from others I wish to help stand back up.
I have three little girls and I feel the exact same way. I just saw them live in Austin and they closed with this and I cried singing along with this. The album version is nothing compared to the live experience of it. This has been my favorite band for so long. So incredible
I can feel you. I have 2 daughters and i son, 1 grandson and a just borned sweat granddaughter. This song give goosebumps all over and tears rolling down from heart and soul.
This song is for real. What is “your silence” what stops you from completing your journey. You could Take me back, take my place or just walk away with no reason. You don’t need me, that’s easy to see, I can live with that. You have set me free from my own chains. Moving forward, I win and you loose. Everyday I wake up thank God I am free and for what it’s worth, the truth will always be my silence.
I cannot even fathom being in that room, feeling the energy coming from the song and the crowd- there is something laced in this song that puts you on your knees and makes you confront what is hitting you in the gut. Aaghh!!! Its so amazing!
Heard this song for the first time last year and after that listen, booked a tattoo appointment to put "There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection" on my arm. That's how much this song means to me.
@@jessebrowne5243 this song got my 12 year old son addicted to MO. He and I saw them twice last year and I saw them 4 times last year. I feel ALL of the feels and that is something my son got also. ❤️❤️
Mother's heartbeat......never forget, got you started, got you listening.......made your heart beat a little faster, because there was love, and that was what you were seeking....
Amazing. Manchester Orchestra is one of the best bands in existence. Their lyrics give you chills and their performances are anthemic, epic, and monumental. This band is on a higher level than others. Black Mile To The Surface is a masterful album and I can't wait to hear what they do next.
I was late in the game finding this. I was always so closed off. But because of shitty drugs, not being able to handle reality and a lack of purpose I went to rehab at 27. I found manchester then. I am 30. Heading back to rehab. And I wish wish I had a point. But I don't. U guys inspire me. You write such moving music. My mom says I feel to much. As a man your not suppose to feel. So I feel so much but yet hide it all. U guys make me feel not so alone and the world less chaotic. Soothing a storm within me that has been raging for along time. Thabk you for the brief moments I cherish with friends and your music.

@@DesigningInCali I listen to the song probably once a day, if not more and the song called the way that is almost just as good if you give that a lesson sometime
@@maureenwoodard9588 My other favorite! Good taste! 😉
This song Is Perfect 🫶🏾🙌🏽🫶🏾👏🏾
Why do I deserve the science
To feel better about you
At a loss I lost my cool
I denied that I found you
I tried to be a basket case
I did not surprise you
I'm trying to find a signal fire
Let me know when I should move
But you, amplified in the silence
Justified in the way you make me bruise
Magnified in the science
Anatomically proved that you don't need me
Why do I decide the space?
I was mourning after you
I was lost and lost my shape
There was nothing I could do
I don't want to waste away
It was all I gave to you
Take me back and take my place
I will rise right up for you
But you, amplified in the silence
Justified in the way you make me bruise
Magnified in the science
Anatomically proved that you don't need me
All the while you waste away, you're asking
"Did I really need another one to take me down?"
Everybody knows it's something that you had to live with darling
Nobody's gonna tear you down now
There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection
There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection
There was nothing but quiet retractions
And families pleading, "Don't look in that cabinet
There's far more bad than there's good, I don't know how it got there"
That was something your father had burned in me
20 hours out of Homestake eternity
You can go anywhere but you are where you came from
Little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry
There is nothing but darkness and agony
I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking
Let me watch you as close as a memory
Let me hold you above all the misery
Let me open my eyes and be glad that I got here
Little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry
There is nothing but darkness and agony
I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking
This is the comment I was looking for. Tysm 💜💙💚💛🧡❤
Thanks man
Thanks
Wow
I heard this song for the first time last night. (Nov 13 2020) I’ve lost count how many times I’ve listened to in these last 24 hours. It kept me from doing something really stupid, it pulled me back from the ledge so to speak. I’d been on the ledge, that razor sharp edge since my husband died. I finally let it go, I let go of the pain and hurt that was what I became. Thank you for such beautiful music and incredible lyrics. You guys don’t remind me of any band I’ve heard in the last 50 years....you are unique to yourselves. I love that. Blessing, love and light from an old hippie chick. Thank you, a million thank yous❣️
Annie in Tennessee ❤️💙💜 Edit: And still I keep listening.
Read the background of this song
As it was a gift from God to both you and I
This song, and Iron and Wine's Trapeze Artist, have both helped me: ruclips.net/video/yt7O8gDy0DA/видео.html

@@blondelebanese9922 sending you love and blessings. Just found this song 1 year from my dad's passing and it's part of me know. I wish you continued healing and joy
I have had it on loop for weeks, crazy, I am a basket case, I guess!
Goosebumps. Every. Damn. Time.
👍
Same.
There is only so many times you hear such a godly song and that voice. So hauntingly beautiful. ❤🙏
A gift from God, read the background of the song.
Yes. Hauntingly beautiful. Powerful.
That voice and the changing tempo of the music is amazing to listen to.
A masterpiece😀🎸🎶🎤
So this is what having an eargasm feels like
The emotions I feel while listening to this song is just crazyyy❤️😖
Whoever decided to include an ad when the drop's about to kick in over 12 months after this video first went live should never be allowed to listen to music again.
I know. the ad I got was manscaper/ a shaver for man balls. 1/2 way through the song..
Agreed. Ridiculous.
@@HCCForestryProf agreed, couldn't believe it, of all places!!!???!!!
🤣😂✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼

Masterpiece.
Croatia love MO.
"...Little girl you are cursed by my ancestry" Having 3 daughters, this line chills my spine...
I feel the same except I have a little boy.
I have two little girls. Those lyrics hit the hardest
I have one, same reaction. Respect.
This crowd has got no energy lol American crowds are awful in comparison to European ones
I cannot push the like button enough for this one. Such an amazing song and performance.
I lost a child. This song, it sums up so many feelings, so many emotions.
@M W you too, and I wish you a very Happy and very Blessed Holiday Season.
@M W hugs too.
Me too. UUUURRGH
@@faithfull4373 My sincerest condolences and a wish that you heal in your own time. 💗🌼🌻
Thank you Andy, and all of you who make Manchester Orchestra one of the greatest rock bands of the last decade. Thanks for all the feels brothers!
Heard this song for the first time last year and after that listen, booked a tattoo appointment to put "There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection" on my arm. That's how much this song means to me.
Its rare to find a song that's so profound and moving. Its affected every single person who I've recommended this to, each in their own unique way.
Fantastic! Light up and drift to another place…. Great tune to get you where you want.
Love every version of this song
regardless of how often you listen to it, it travels deep into your inner soul!
I played this video for my kids (6, 8 & 10) full blast in the car, i said hey you guys want to feel something?
@@jessebrowne5243 this song got my 12 year old son addicted to MO. He and I saw them twice last year and I saw them 4 times last year. I feel ALL of the feels and that is something my son got also. ❤️❤️
Can’t stop listening this tune ! Been here before, past present and future . I’ll still be listening 👂
Mother's heartbeat......never forget, got you started, got you listening.......made your heart beat a little faster, because there was love, and that
was what you were seeking....
This is the most amazing band in the world! Simple the best! For sure...
My life will not be complete until I see and hear this performed live
Amazing. Manchester Orchestra is one of the best bands in existence. Their lyrics give you chills and their performances are anthemic, epic, and monumental. This band is on a higher level than others. Black Mile To The Surface is a masterful album and I can't wait to hear what they do next.
No entiendo como esta canción no ha triunfado más. Lo tiene todo para ser el himno de una generación.... lo que la gente se pierde....
Love you guys 🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶🎧🎶🎧🎶🎧🎶🎧
Just two weeks ago, I randomly heard this song playing. It touched me to the bone, and not many songs get so deep. What an amazing band. Hope to see you soon in Belgium, you'll be welcomed like never before.
Outstanding song, with a lot of feeling. from the heart! Thank you. Timeless....
This is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard in my life. the quality of this band is fantastic, may GOD bless you all very much

In this year of isolation I have discovered so much good music. Manchester Orchestra is simply incredible. I am just blown away by their sound. They reach deep inside of you and lay you bare.
What a great time to find them! Might I suggest Bad Books, Right Away Great Captain, and Kevin Devine as well. All great stuff.
