@arremap bruh. He literally goes by Jack in real life. Jack is a nickname for John, which is just the English version of Jeàn, which is the French Version of Seàn. BOTH use Jack as a nickname as well. Correcting him on this would be the same as being like "His name isn't Tom, it's Thomas"
I wonder if Maria's outfit was changed to be more "modern sexy." Her original outfit has aged (VERY early 2000's style), and may come off as more silly and out of place rather than alluring. I do like that her leather dress still has cheetah print embossed on it that you can see when the lighting shifts.
99% sure they did it to reflect modern fashion/trends as the cheetah skirt was indeed something of the early 2000's which now would look silly on her. She finds her old outfit in the motel and asks if she would look good in it and James replies "sure" to which she responds something among the lines of that that wasn't a very enthusiastic "yes" which I think confirms it
1:12:46 For anyone wondering, the building that Maria comments on with no follow up is where the DLC in the original takes place, and you play as Maria in the DLC.
@@feminitudeit was never dlc the internet just likes to argue, it should be free but everyone’s willing to pay for it, and honestly $10 isn’t that much, or even $20 if you’re working. But I wish people weren’t so defensive about stuff like this, it’s a shame. I’m glad everyone’s civil in the comments
I'm sure there's already a comment down here somewhere pointing it out, but the legs are supposed to represent more the sexual frustration that James felt during his wife's illness, and his wandering eye towards other women (I don't think it's confirmed if he cheated or not but he definitely was looking). And I "like" (for so far as you can like something like this) the attention to where his mind was even where that's concerned. Caregiver burn out is something that wasn't as often talked about outside of immediate family circles (if it was discussed there), and while it's awful, I like that they portray this part of James' experience of his wife's illness and death. Intimacy was an important part of their marriage and he missed it, and he feels guilty about having his frustrations and missing sex. That's why the monsters are projecting it back at him, because it's his guilt over these feelings and what may or may not have happened. The saves are fantastic. There were a few times I was almost convinced it was actually James' voice actor saying some really weird stuff.
I like this interpretation. I had read elsewhere that the 'sexy legs', especially the ones with red platforms, were meant to represent his attraction to his wife's legs, but it never sat right with me. Having his *guilt* for his attraction to *women's* legs be personified as a hideous, aggresive monster that beats him (for it) is such a good representation of that. It's punishing yourself for feeling what you believe you shouldn't dare feel.
So I loosely understood the symbolism the leg monsters represented and had the notion that James deserved the hell he was going through for his pig thoughts when his wife was literally dying but when u put it like that it’s actually so morbidly terrifying. The body bags with only legs literally being his dead wife and all he can think about are her legs (which I think honestly only points to what’s between them not the sexiness of legs themselves). Like u pointed out, if intimacy was important in their relationship and he was feeling guilty over his own sexual frustration and caregiver burnout, being thrown into a freakish hellscape with your most dark and disturbing secrets/demons literally attacking you I would genuinely believe I was in limbo or hell and this was my punishment 😂 such an amazing game with incredible symbolism/meaningful enemies that aren’t just creepy for show. And that’s not even counting all the small foreshadowings and symbolisms in the environment too
@@maridiancomer7635 yes, the first couple of Silent Hill games have had an incredible amount of symbolism, metaphors, hidden meanings and all that stuff. There’s a lot out there about the monsters and meanings of it all. All Silent Hill protagonists are very human. They can’t simply be evil or unredeemable because if they were they could not feel the intense guilt that they do, and they would not see what they consider their own failings reflected back at them. Some of them have done bad things, but the emotional weight of what has happened is (usually) the focal point of the game.
@@TwoCatsInLondon makes me excited for what’s to come, we’ve needed more Silent Hill games for a while. Symbolic horror that makes you think as well as making you uneasy is a perfect mix
Also James was always supposed to come to Silent Hill, I could be wrong in this but the stuff that’s happening to him here is happening because of him as well, his repressed thoughts and emotions, ones he doesn’t even know he has yet. The allure of Silent Hill as far as I’m aware is a feeling that is by definition, irresistible, it’s a purgatory you go to if your a shitty person, which is why you get called there (I’m guessing) No idea why Laura is there, she’s as pure as pure can get.
@@HatKidPeckit’s more of a the less mentally stable you are the more likely the town calls you Remember how both Cheryl and Harry despite both of them being relatively chill

1:44:20 Sean, Laura is able to run around silent hill completely safe is because she is innocent in every single sense of the word. She's 8. She doesn't have any dark feelings or emotions, she hasn't committed any crimes. There is no darkness inside of her for silent hill to bring out. She's so pure that she doesn't even see the hell that other people see. Later in the game James comes across Angela again and he sees a glimpse of what her silent hill is like. When asked about it, she says "This is what I've always seen" But Laura is an innocent kid and doesn't see anything
this might be really dark & way too far, but what if a child, who was experiencing @bu$€ (like i did) went to Silent Hill, what would happen? they would have all the dark feelings & emotions, the guilt, shame, fear etc that others on here are commenting that that's what Silent Hill is about / what Silent Hill does, plays off of your worst fears, deepest secrets & biggest mistakes, would the poor child be reliving the trauma & @bu$€?
@@rainbowglass8319 I'm sorry that happened to you. However I don't think that's the case for Laura. Least I hope it's not. She wasn't showing any signs of ptsd like everyone else is. Every time you meet a new character everyone is going a touch insane. She seems perfectly fine. Up until James learns the truth and tells her that is
@@rainbowglass8319 probably something similar to Angela's I think? I've learned that she's a victim of SA (from her dad and brother apparently), correct me if I'm wrong. (My mom was SA by her dad when she was 8, and by several of her partners including my father. I had some problems with my dad at a time, he was using me to hurt my mom. It never went .."too far" per say but it was too much already). I know it doesn't help but I am sorry you went through @bu$€ and hope you have the right people around you now. Take care
I've always liked James as a character. In the original game, while he sounded so disconnected from reality and awkward, there's still a tone of understanding in his voice. He met all these people and the first thing you catch in his voice is him trying to understand them. He sound soft, assuring, comforting, even with the jank of the original voice acting. In this remake, he catches their distress on the get go and he sounds so comforting to everyone. It really shows how James is still in his "comforting" period of his grief. He doesn't want people to be on edge, he still has kindness to spare because he regretted that he couldn't spare that same kindness and understanding for his wife.
That's an interesting interpretation. I've always thought of James as intentionally disconnected from the people he meets. The vibe I get in the original game (both because of voice acting but also the way the (admittedly low-fi) character model acts) is that he puts on the air of caring about them, but he doesn't actually sympathise with them. He's clearly disgusted by Eddie and frustrated with Laura. I've also watched a video essay breaking down how he keeps trying to invade Angela's personal space even after she's threatened him and told him to stay back, the implications of which are not great if you take into account both characters' respective traumas. With this in mind, I've also liked James as a character, but more as an asshole who doesn't realise he's an asshole. :D But the way you describe him really is how he comes across in this remake, so I have to assume that it's the interpretation that the creators had in mind too. I'm not saying it's wrong, but I personally wish they'd gone the other way. He's not a good person, but he's an interesting character. Either way, I like hearing other perspectives!
@@Sekovatkainyes! James isn’t a good person. You described him perfectly in the OG game, and in this remake I don’t mind how they made him seem genuinely caring mostly bc of the last thing OP said. His entire reason for being in Silent Hill is because of his guilt, whether he realizes it or not his psyche acknowledged he had committed sins and the town knew those sins were his weakness. He is trying to spare others the compassion and empathy he should’ve given to his wife, not because he’s a good person but because he feels guilty which is somehow worse than just being an ass(James is just an incredibly selfish person but doesn’t realize it). Regardless of all of it he doesn’t deserve to be attacked by hellish nightmares from his guilty conscience come to life, and that’s what makes his character playable and someone you can root for as he tries to find his wife and make up for how he wronged her. It’s like he’s paying penance every time he kills an enemy. Love this game and its symbolism and the fact that it’s not afraid to venture on touchy topics like a morally ambiguous sort of protagonist that a lot of ppl would be inclined to hate once they learn what’s been going on
@@maridiancomer7635 Those are good points! The more I think about it, the more I like the idea that the remake slightly shifts the perspective on the protagonist. I mean, what's the point of a remake if it doesn't provide anything new? You might as well play the original game at that point.
@@Ämyr2006 Hmm I tried to, I wonder if the answer got blocked as spam because of the youtube link. Anyway, the video was called "Silent Hill's Best Character - An Angela Analysis" by Ratat. 38:25 Fun Fact: If you don't know, Akira Yamaoka actually came back to remake his own soundtrack for the Silent Hill 2 remake. One of the best aspects of the original remade by the same composer. How wonderful.
Gosh Heavens Nights club was TEMPTATION for James. I love that you can see the way he's fighting the offered drink in his face. They really humanized these characters while keeping the uncanny feeling and it's amazing
The concept of a place that shapes itself around your raw subconscious thoughts and feelings, the ones that come naturally and you don't have much control over, is genuinely terrifying. Everyone has bad thoughts that may not even surface to your conscious, perhaps ones that do which you use common sense to know would be dumb to listen to, but Silent Hill doesn't care or discriminate. If any part of you thought it, you're responsible in full and will pay.
7:36 lol I accidentally paused it without noticing and thought Jack said "I'm not very good at poetry" and then just stared into my soul for a solid 10 seconds
the house that maria was scared by is likely a reference to the special episode where you play as her in the original. it was a dlc mission where you interacted with a haunted house, learned the truth of her own existence and came to terms with her role in the reality of silent hill, only to lose those memories as she slipped into her role as... well, maria.

Maria asking James if everything is alright when Sean went into the saving menu at the car caught me so off guard and made it so much more funny 😂😂 the timing was great too when Sean was already talking and she just questioned his sanity lol
James isn't a bad person for fantasizing and being repressed. His wife was sick for 3 years. Along with all the trauma of watching her slowly die (definitely the worst part), it's still true that he hasn't had anything in that whole time. James is a bad person for other reasons lol.
People go their whole life without sex and when they grow old will prefer not to have it even if they love their partner still. I agree with a lot of people saying that silent hill seems to go for any bad thought you have, suppressed or not, so that could excuse it since having those thoughts in passing isn’t bad, but I think from another perspective it seems like he saw his wife’s illness as an inconvenience for him rather than seeing it as his wife being in so much pain and agony. I don’t know, I don’t think if you truly love someone that sex would be a common thought in this situation. Or what their legs look like. I do think it could be just that these are very emphasised depictions of what he thought but it’s still not really understandable for me at least if it is such a big part of his thoughts.
Don't know if you noticed, but the room you find at 1:07:27 is the room heather stays at in silent hill 3 (you can even see Douglas's hat on the chair)
As someone who was too young to watch these games when they first came out, I am absolutely delighted to be able to experience them for the first time through these remakes. Thank you for taking the time to carefully explain as much as you can without spoiling it all. It definitely makes the entire experience way more enjoyable! Thank you!
Sammmme honestly. I never had the chance before to actually get into the games. Prior to now, the best I had was the movies and the occasional analysis of the entities. I have definitely been enjoying watching the remake thus far.
I’m in the same boat. I always wanted to play sh2 but it’s so hard to find these days. Feels like I missed out big time in my youth, but the remake makes up for that now
u should watch his gf’s playthroughs of the og silent hill games. they may seem dated at first, but imo it adds to the atmosphere. silent hill 2 is awesome but so is silent hill 1 in its own right. and if you haven’t already, you should watch twin peaks. obviously a bit dated as well, but silent hill was directly inspired by it. the sound track, the dark themes, the small town. it only makes sense once you’ve seen it, but i promise its worth it. favorite show of all time
Isaac Clarke, Alan Wake, and James Sunderland are the holy trinity of “Where’s my wife!?” Edit: I should have done my research before making this original comment… Isaac doesn’t have a wife, he has a girlfriend. If I could redo this list it would be 1. James Sunderland 2. Alan Wake 3. Ethan Winters 4. Blake Langermann. There are plenty of more examples out there that I may not know about… please kindly let me know about your picks!
Out of these three, only one succeeded in successfully finding and saving their wife tho... My GOAT, Alan Wake 💪🏽😤✨ lol Ethan Winters also succeeded. Good on him.
Just finished part 1, I'm new to Silent Hill so I really appreciate the no spoilers. I like the idea of this game, it's different to other styles and ideas I've seen before. It felt kind of like Last of Us to begin, but now I understand the representations with the monsters and the fog is such a cool idea, so oppressive but a clear character as well. I also love the pyramid head guy - such a cool design. So far, I'm enjoying it and it's nice to see all the comments that answer my little questions as I go haha.
If The Last of Us is a blockbuster like Logan, Silent Hill is a David Lynch film. Just bizarre and twisted and sticks with you for days. Enjoy the ride.
hopefully nobody will spoil it for you anymore, its a very good series, but you will have to forgive jack if he accidentally does, Silent Hill as a whole is 25 years old, with Silent Hill 2 being 23. i would suggest looking into retrospectives of the original Silent Hill 2 if you aren't able to emulate it and play it for yourself so you can experience the story without getting spoiled.
If you’re new to silent hill, you still have no idea what’s going on and jack isn’t really explaining it accurately at all, he’s semi right on parts but misses big parts. I’d suggest once this series is done go and watch a video essay on silent hill 2 and honestly all the other silent hills. It gives you a good idea on what the premise of the story is and the psychological torture it brings…. Like almost everything you see in the story is a reference or is significant to James story in some way. Like jack says the monster designs are because of his inner most thoughts, but it also goes way deeper than that
If I'm not mistaken, the name of the whiskey Maria offered to James, "The Fifth River", is a reference to 1 of the rivers of the underworld from Greek Mythology, the River Leche (the river of amnesia/forgetfulness). This means that if James had accepted the drink, it would have symbolized forgetting about his journey to find his wife (or forgetting about sonething else). Side note: I took a wild guess at the spelling of the river since it's been so long since I've seen the word spelled out. Edit: That's also why the bottle has a picture of a lotus on it, because of another Greek myth about a group of people who would trap travellers there with food, drinks, and perfumes made from the lotus flowers that grow along a portion of river connected to the River Leche that flows into the mortal plane, and anybody who eats or drinks the food or smells the perfumes will lose their memories and be drawn in by the entertainment.
I like this theory because later when we see Eddie eating and James mentions how he got his appetite back, Eddie appears out of it. Eddie seems to have completely succumbed to being a sloth which we could argue is the reason he’s in silent hill. He gave into being a sloth by eating in the movie theatre and is doomed to his fate…
That’s a good detail I never would have guessed 😮 All I could think of was the scene in The Shining where Jack goes to the Overlook’s bar, inhabited by the ghosts of the hotel slowly driving him insane. It just seems to be shot similarly, at least in the remake
Jack, you are absolutely amazing. Below is information I found regarding the lore of the standard enemies. Unfortunately, the book of lost memories was only released in Japan so I had to rely on unofficial translations so there might be some inconsistencies. I did not include boss information since that would be spoilers for anyone that has never played Silent Hill 2 (I say this because I've met so many people that have zero idea what Silent Hill is). Lying Figure (Fan name: Gimp suit): According to the developers, the lying figure is supposed to symbolize restraint and James' suffering regarding his wife. For the restraint part, it might be referring to him having to restrain his sexual desires. Mannequin: This enemy is supposed to represent James' natural urges and inclinations. In other words, yes it's supposed to be very sexual in nature as is seen in a specific cutscene. Bubblehead Nurse (aka Scary Sexy Nurse): This enemy is, oddly enough, supposed to represent Mary's hospitalization per the book of lost memories. Creeper (Bugs): This enemy is mostly derived from the town's power. Not much is mentioned about it but, iirc, I think this enemy is in almost every silent hill game. ALERT: Spoiler ahead for an enemy that was not mentioned and is encountered around mid to late game. It is NOT a boss but it is a standard enemy that starts spawning in the game Mandarin: This is the annoying hanging tentacle monster. Per the book of lost memories, the mandarin "symbolizes feelings of overwhelming, incomprehensible anguish. For this reason, it is not permitted to stand above ground." I forget where it starts spawning but it could considered the ultimate form of anguish that James has surrounding the death of Mary.
@TheMasterVictory he represents Jame's guilt, and desire for punishment. We see him do things to the other monsters throughout the game that symbolizes James' sexual frustration and desires
@TheMasterVictory Because of the information given in the book of lost memories, it would be a huge spoiler, so I will add several line breaks. For anyone reading this, if you do not want to be spoiled, DO NOT PROCEED. Red Pyrmaid Thing (aka Pyramid Head or the boogeyman): Per the book of lost memories, pyramid head "takes the appearance of an executioner of times past, but is actually incarnated from the part of James' consciousness that feels that he deserves punishment". Pyramid head is basically a manifestation of James' self-loathing for killing his wife. Technically, pyramid head was only supposed to appear in SH2 but it was such a popular character, they made him a recurring character.
Omg yes, they used Reprise! My whole body got covered in goosebumps, as soon as I heard that first line of notes. Such a simplistic yet beautiful piece. Glad to see Sean feel the same way😊
The explanation at ~54:00 is WAAAAAAY oversimplified. James is a flawed character, but I wouldn't paint him as "bad". The big reveal at the end kind of flies in the face of that, but dealing with a dying family member, especially a spouse is hell. It's worse than hell... and coping with it is not easy. It doesn't excuse James' actions, but they are at the very least somewhat explainable and maybe a tiny bit understandable. Also, I don't think the disease was cancer. I won't go into detail as to why I'm pretty sure it was something else (and likely something fictional) because it spoils some of the story, but it also explains a lot of the imagery.
I am typing as i watch this episode while being half-asleep and I am in full support with Jack that we *have* to explore every toilet we encounter to feel the vibe if it, getting to know each shitter better, the story of who it was, how it came to be, how it lived its life and how it was left behind
CRAZY DETAIL! When moving from the bar, the purple neon above Maria's head seems to say KISS, but the reflection in the wall with some neon malfunction actually reads "SICK"...that's some really great detail! Wonder how many people noticed it
This is the first time I'm seeing anything Silent Hill related even after hearing about it so much and i gotta say, Im loving the main character. He feels so empathetic and human when he talks to people. Hes so aware, it feels all so real. I also love hearing you talk in the back while im doing stuff so this is also nice.
27:50 In the original game that whisper was actually a rare event! Some people think the whisper says something like “(something something) see my dead wife, (something something) come home and do some laundry.” I wonder if it’s a common event now, or if that was really lucky on Jack’s part?
I wouldn't doubt that they made it play everytime due to the rarity of it playing in the og. It's incredibly creepy especially when you're just getting used to the other sounds in the environment
I just got home from work and onto my computer, and said to myself "I hope Sean posted the next part, I'd love to watch it while decompressing from the day" LO AND BEHOLD POSTED ONE MINUTE AGO
So, as I mentioned in the last video, the symbolism of this game is around sexual frustration and guilt. As a Healthcare worker, I've witnessed many cases of people that get very stressed and frustrated when their significant other get sick, because they also have needs, but they can't expect their partners to handle their sexual and affection needs when they are in suffering. Since Mary was very sick, it is only natural that James got repressed and frustrated, and this is why so many of the creatures seen in the game look sickly (representing Mary's condition) but also very feminine and sensual, based on James' repressed needs. Pyramid Head on the other hand is James' guilt, since he believes he deserves to be punished for Mary's situation. On the original game, the scene where he appears interacting with the mannequins (known "tenderly" as The Perfect Woman), it is implied he is sexually assaulting the mannequins, which was not well ported to the remake (and it was a curiosity of mine when they said they were going to make a remake: how would they actually show how vile and horrible Pyramid Head AND Ideal Father are). This game talks a lot about toxic masculinity in terms of sexualization and abuse, but in different contexts for each character shown in the game. SH2 isn't adored as one of the best horror games ever made for nothing, it is really well thought and sensible with its analogies and symbolism. EDIT: Since Jack also asked around how Silent Hill came to be, it is implied in the first game that there is a cult to a pagan god in the town that made use of allucinogenic substances to commune with their god. They believed that a girl named Alessa, that was born with psychic abilities, was meant to be mother of their god and was used by the high council of the cult and her own mother as a mean to achieve power. However, it went VERY wrong and Alessa was divided in two parts, her innocence manifest in a baby and sent out of town by her "corrupt" vengeful part. It is believed that this vengeful part of Alessa turned the town into some sort of Purgatory, where people go to face their own demons. Every single person, except for Harry (the protagonist in the first game) go to Silent Hill either by their own will, as James, through a call, or end up there, like Travis and the protagonist of Downpour (I forgot his name). Silent Hill is a hell of each person's making, when they face their past trauma, guilt and perversions, and sometimes even things related to their own families, like in the game Homecoming (which was the other case when Pyramid Head shows around and everybody hates it because P-Head is a demon of James' making, so there's NO REASON for it to be somewhere else). Silent Hill 1 and 3 are intimately connected, because the first tells the story of Harry and his adoptive daughter Cheryl, that is the good side of Alessa, and the third game is related to Alessa herself, when she is called to Silent Hill to face the cult but also her own demons. SH 1 is heavily peppered with references towards Alessa's life and past, leaning over hospital references, her hobbies and fears (like bugs and dogs), while SH 3 is more about puberty, motherhood and how Cheryl feels about being stuck in the difficult phase of adolescence. The first and second games also have references that end up in the game Silent Hill: The Room, which tells the story of the serial killer Walter Sullivan. Silent Hill: Origins is about the family and tragedy of Travis' family, SH: Homecoming is also related to the cult, but family tragedy as well, and Downpour is more leaned into the SH2 idea of guilt, but more around anger and resentment than sexuality. And we also have Fractured Memories, which was meant to be a remake/retelling of Silent Hill 1, which is... complicated to explain... without handing over a major spoiler of the game, but I think it was the first game, or one of the first ones, that introduced the whole "talk with therapist" gameplay seen in "Until Dawn". Sorry for an "autism/ADHD" info dump, but this franchise is extremely important to me as a person AND an aspiring artist, being part of my life for more than 15 years. EDIT: after a long time meditating about editing or not this post, I decided to include just a small addendum -> READ THE WHOLE DISCUSSION

@@asongb1rd I don't want to spoil that for you, because has a VERY nasty meaning and it's also a very important piece of the plot... but I'll try to give you an explanation without revealing much. So while in the original PH looks like he's SA the mannequin, the creator stated that PH is actually just killing the monster erotically. Which obviously has a bunch of deeper meaning lol

34:06 - In the original version , the voice acting for “are you afraid?” is one of my favourite voice acted lines of all time. In the original scene, that line is voiced completely different to the characters movements and it’s really jarring as a result. Out of nowhere Angela goes from sounding like and ‘out/of-it victim’ to sounding like a titillated predator, all while the character model doesn’t do anything but hold the same stance lying on the ground. In the remake I was only listening to the line at first and felt disappointed initially- until I took the whole scene in. The movement of the character matched with the line really marries the scene together. So instead of it being 100% in the voice acting, that sense that James briefly evoked Angela’s inner predator shows up in the body language/characters movements - which I rather like for the remake. They are definitely using advanced in modeling/motion capture in the cut scenes to balance out the movement/voice acting to still reflect that sense of everything being ‘off’ but more grounded in how people would actually respond in real life. Having the cut scenes be more real to actual life in the remake feels in line with Silent Hill being more psychological horror. Im such a fan of the original and I’ve been delightfully surprised by this remake 😊
As a huge Resident Evil fan I completely agree with you, Sean. I think what makes Silent Hill more scary besides the psychological horror compared to the more "zombies because of a virus" thing in Resi is that you play with a normal person who's as clueless and scared as you are. In Resi you always play as a cop or someone prepare to do what they have to do to survive and gives the player a sense of calm and control, Leon or Jill for example they are tanks in human form. That's why Resi 7 is the scariest, because you get to play for the first time as a civilian who has zero idea what's going on but they got rid of that in 8 giving Ethan military training (I don't complain I'm just pointing it out) making 8 more heavy action again and less horror.
Man the references to the original are so cool like the incoherent whisper in the apartment and the Baldwin mansion from “born from a wish”, especially how Maria reacts to it. This remake is so well done

SPOILERS AHEAD so the reason some enemies vomit is because they’re a representation of the harsh words Mary had spoken to James when she was sick. She didn’t feel pretty anymore and took it out on those around her. As in to “spew venom”. Pyramid head looks how he does because of the picture in the historical society of the executioners from silent hills past. James saw that image, and that’s why pyramid head looks the way he does, because James was an executioner for Mary when he killer her. Maria is everything James wishes his wife was and she wants him to forget about Mary and be with her
@@lucky4d725its mostly confirmed, especially the Pyramid Head and Maria part, when you make it to the historical museum you can literally see the executioners with the triangle hoods and for Maria she is supposed to be a representation of how James wanted Mary to be.
While watching I had a thought...the entire time Maria is around James, she acts weak and helpless. Giving him a power fantasy of being the hero who saved her life. Something he couldn't do for Mary.
The characters kind of being aware when James saves gave me an idea. It would be really cool with a game where saving actually affects the game. For example the more you save the more your character's mental state worsens. So not saving might be harder, but saving will give you the "bad ending"
How did I only JUST notice Sean started doing the high five intro again, it feels simultaneously so familiar that I brushed past it but also so foreign and refreshing that I stopped the video and went "wait...what?" and then went back the last 5 videos up to the squirrel one and just went "How tf did I not notice he's been doing that again?"
The way you got really lost in the last episode looking for 5 coins was really validating for me 😅 I spent a good half an hour before i looked it up and felt foolish. It truly is an ADHD thing, we just glossed over the 3 coin thing because we saw 5 slots.

Man, this is peak gaming IMO. They took the incredible story and atmosphere of SH2 and used modern graphics and tech to enhance the experience (as opposed to using graphics as a substitute for substance like so many modern games).
I think the saddest part of this game is how much I worry I might be able to relate to James would that I was put in the same caregiver position as he is. It's such a realistic depiction of trauma and the confliction of feeling exhausted constantly looking after a loved one that I feel it deep in my heart that, aside from the murder, I wouldn't be all that dissimilar from him. that scares me. I appreciate games that can let me look in on myself
I love this game even more now that you enjoy it.. It just feels better than it could ever be. I wanna get a small bit personal here though if you don't mind Sean. Back during thankmas a few years back you did a bunch of donations for people who struggle with suicidal tendencies. I wanted to let you know I was one of the people you saved. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you, for the donations and you sharing your strength. I will always remember PMA and Laugh. Seriously thank you.
OK im so glad you talked about pyramid head in the other silent hill games ( 54:00 roughly) because i get to bring up my favorite theory that thegamingmuse talked about; which is that instead of pyramid head just being a representation of james, its a manifestation of the town that acts as judge, jury and executioner, which would explain why (SPOILERS) in homecoming he kills alex's dad by cleaving him in half
I think someone said he was only meant to be in silent hill 2 in one of the comments but people loved him so much he kinda took on that executioner role i think i don't actually know fully tho
Or, for the real reason he appears in other game, is because the devs of the other games didnt understand what he was about and just wanted a recognisable enemy
Jack nothing makes me happy here then seeing a notification for a new video. It feels like hanging out with my best friend. This just made my day as it always does.

Eddie is eating strawberry ice cream out of a giant tub with his bare hands. Did you notice his breath can be seen, but not yours? It's not even cold. But later on, he's surrounded by cold and ice. His Silent Hill is the exact opposite of how Angela experiences it: Not flames and heat, but ice and snow. Silent Hill can do that sometimes. In Shattered Memories, the retelling of the first game, Harry's Silent Hill is frozen over rather than rusted. The town is always fine-tuned to the person it beckoned for.
I love how Jack's joke about James spacing out while looking at the book was confirmed by Maria asking if he's okay when saving.

I wonder if Maria's outfit was changed to be more "modern sexy." Her original outfit has aged (VERY early 2000's style), and may come off as more silly and out of place rather than alluring. I do like that her leather dress still has cheetah print embossed on it that you can see when the lighting shifts.
Og outfit is also literally based on an outfit Christina Aguilera wore!
I was thinking the same. Though I like that they had that little easter egg of her showing the old outfit.

But the way you describe him really is how he comes across in this remake, so I have to assume that it's the interpretation that the creators had in mind too.

I do think it could be just that these are very emphasised depictions of what he thought but it’s still not really understandable for me at least if it is such a big part of his thoughts.

hopefully nobody will spoil it for you anymore, its a very good series, but you will have to forgive jack if he accidentally does, Silent Hill as a whole is 25 years old, with Silent Hill 2 being 23. i would suggest looking into retrospectives of the original Silent Hill 2 if you aren't able to emulate it and play it for yourself so you can experience the story without getting spoiled.
That’s a good detail I never would have guessed 😮
All I could think of was the scene in The Shining where Jack goes to the Overlook’s bar, inhabited by the ghosts of the hotel slowly driving him insane.

It is NOT a boss but it is a standard enemy that starts spawning in the game
Mandarin: This is the annoying hanging tentacle monster. Per the book of lost memories, the mandarin "symbolizes feelings of overwhelming, incomprehensible anguish. For this reason, it is not permitted to stand above ground." I forget where it starts spawning but it could considered the ultimate form of anguish that James has surrounding the death of Mary.
what about pyramid head?
@@JasonThorneTVVods thank you man, very appreciated :D
Thank you very much for the info, having it here right in the comment section is extremely convenient!
I also am in full support of this absolutely hilarious idea
No toilet left unturned; no toilet left behind
James is a thigh guy, and I can respect that.
48:06 "oh how the time flies, said the guy who threw the clock" was so funny to me.
Idk I too got that event
I wouldn't doubt that they made it play everytime due to the rarity of it playing in the og. It's incredibly creepy especially when you're just getting used to the other sounds in the environment
I got it on my playthrough as well, so it looks like it plays for everyone!
Some people have confirmed they didn't get it! But it seems to be rare that people don't.
I got it in my only playthrough of the og. Shat bricks.
I just got home from work and onto my computer, and said to myself "I hope Sean posted the next part, I'd love to watch it while decompressing from the day" LO AND BEHOLD POSTED ONE MINUTE AGO
I’m the exact opposite, I’m about to go into a 9 hour shift so I won’t get to watch it until tonight 😭😭, it’ll be so worth it
I do get that absolutely, but with such a unsettling horror game i don't think I can really relax lmao
EDIT: after a long time meditating about editing or not this post, I decided to include just a small addendum -> READ THE WHOLE DISCUSSION
i'm new to silent hill bc of this playthrough & i've definitely heard of pyramid head over the years but idk who / what ideal father is :0 could u explain pls?
@@asongb1rd I don't want to spoil that for you, because has a VERY nasty meaning and it's also a very important piece of the plot... but I'll try to give you an explanation without revealing much. He's a boss James encounters in the original game, related to Angela. Ideal Father is also known as "Abstract Daddy".
So while in the original PH looks like he's SA the mannequin, the creator stated that PH is actually just killing the monster erotically. Which obviously has a bunch of deeper meaning lol
If you love symbolic character design and disturbing deeper meanings behind them, I recommend checking out Fear and Hunger and Fear and Hunger 2 (it’s more present in fear and hunger 2)

1:10:46, the transition to looking directly at the camera and having the conversation killed me here. LMFAO. Best Sean moment so far
Sooooo excited for part 3!! I'm avoiding watching any other playthroughs, the suspense is real

@@matheusmartins7546 the "point" of her character is to show the effects of the town, to show what happens to somehow who couldn't get over the trials of the town. so the reason some enemies vomit is because they’re a representation of the harsh words Mary had spoken to James when she was sick. Maria is everything James wishes his wife was and she wants him to forget about Mary and be with her
That's cool asf
Is this actually confirmed or just a fan interpretation taken as fact ?
@@lucky4d725its mostly confirmed, especially the Pyramid Head and Maria part, when you make it to the historical museum you can literally see the executioners with the triangle hoods and for Maria she is supposed to be a representation of how James wanted Mary to be.
@@xitao1772 those 2 i'm aware. But the whole Mary and venom in words thing sounds a bit of a stretch.
@@lucky4d725maybe

I think someone said he was only meant to be in silent hill 2 in one of the comments but people loved him so much he kinda took on that executioner role i think i don't actually know fully tho
