    Came here to inspire myself in designing my real life rpg tavern here in Indonesia. It might not attract many customers but it has always been my dream to open one.

      You need to hire an actor or cosplayer friend to occasionally pop in wearing some battered armor and hold forth about their days as an adventurer.

    Could you draw a forest map?

    Sweet mapmaking! I learned the hard way that having a thick/thin set of markers really helps with establishing walls and barriers.
    Your bathroom comment reminds me of the two times I specifically planned having a bathroom location in two different one shots. One time I left goofy magazines for players to potentially find. The other time there was a hidden escape hatch in the toilet. Nobody ever checked out those bathrooms though.

      Hah! That’s awesome! I guess people don’t really care about going to the bathroom while role playing :P

  • @vurrunna

    Absolutely love it. Reminds me of back in the day when I first got into roleplaying with my friends--I'd draw out these big, multi-page maps across sheets of printer paper to represent the various ships used across our campaigns (we played Star Wars at the time). There really is something about a handmade map that brings a game to life, even if it's just super simple with a low skill level.

    can you imagine putting this amount of work into one location and then the PCs just merrily skip it away for a random NPC's working place to steal all their posessions?

    All the old pubs that I find living in Britain have a large multi seat outhouse for each gender and a trough. It's only a few steps away from the main building in the beer garden with a covered walkway between the two buildings. And even flush toilets started as just a porcelain hole with a foot-pad either side and you can still enjoy them in France :) Quite a shock if you didn't know until you needed to go and then discover this as the only option! We Americans all need to get out more.

    The chairs placement is ok because in places like this people just grab them from another table to sit with their friends, and it doesn't take long or the elegantly planed sitting organisation to turn into an illoical nightmare ;)

    The one thing I would have made different is the round tables. In many bars they thend to move tables together for larger groups of guests and that would be easier to achieve wich rectangular tables. I would still have added one round table which is significantly larger than the rectangular ones. That table would be specifically reserved for regular guests who are known for being in this bar every thursday night and who are always sitting at that specific table. That could be a group of retired adventurers - maybe even the party the innkeeper was travelling with or depending on what kind of pub it is it could be a group of local policeman or a band of thieves who've picked that pub as meeting point. This idea could also serve as a storyhook for the adventurers or maybe as some sideinteraction when they try to sit on exactly that table and the innkeeper tells them they can't.

    Fantastic1 Love the richness of the characters too!!!! The paper character pawns rule! The premise is fantastic! That got my brain blasting through ideas- are the guests paying to disappear/fleeing the city, or are they going to an exclusive Underdark complex, or a travel portal? Also, I love the starting spec sheet- a book of these mini adventure ideas would be a great zine. One page adventure seeds! Perhaps a Flik Silverpen's guide to . It could even be a workbook of sorts- Guide to making guides!

    One small thing I think is worth of tweaking are diagonal walls - you cut the square in half and it is hard to put miniature on and determine if it can be occupied or not.
    Simple avoidance of this is to not start diagonals at the edges, but at the middle of squares and you then clearly cut the square to 1/8th which cannot be used and 7/8ths which can.

    Most medieval taverns wouldn’t have a bathroom. They would have an outhouse (usually integrated into the sizable woodshed for all the wood that hearth and that oven would consume), or share an outhouse with the other businesses or boarding houses on their block.

    Do you have any tips for drawing a castle map? I just don’t know the balance between too much and not enough.

    • @JPCoovert
      @JPCoovert  4 года назад

      Too much is if drawing the map takes away time you'd spend preparing the adventure. Not enough is making a drawing that doesn't help the players visualize what you are describing. So a castle wall can just be a line on a grid. It can be super simple! Other suggestion would be to do a sketch on a smaller sheet of paper first, just to figure out how you want to draw certain objects. Good luck! You got it!
