I don't think that is odd at all, both sounds are made with the tongue against the alveolar ridge -the hard bit behind your upper teeth. Easily interchangeable, especially if you don't have both sounds in your native language :)
This looks promising, Tom! As for English not being your first language, there are many Canadians who claim to be EFL, though they could have fooled me! RUclips has alot lol of examples! Carry on!
