*Hopefully this is helpful to see direct comparison of real vs fake pins!* The number one best way to know if a pin is fake or not is to be able to compare it to what a real one looks like. Over time, you get a much better eye for what to look for!
i love smrt-1 and the horizons robot but everytime i see those pins on lanyards and boards they look really crappy. i don't mind having fake pins if they look ok though honestly.
One thing I am confused about is that I was told by a cast member who was trained specifically to deal with pins and “fake pins” that there isn’t really any fake pins that they are pins that were made from an actual Disney mold and Disney factory but that they were made from a mold that was supposed to be discarded because of too much use. That instead of throwing it out they kept using it for a little bit longer.
So, a database of real and fake side-by-sides would be ideal. Hope someone with the time, inclination, and perhaps an entrepreneurial gene will see the need, vis a vis, market for it, and sort out a way to offer such a database in a way that they can be compensated for their time, talent, and initiative.
@@MagicallyEmily Admittedly. But that's what they said about an international database for cancer illnesses and treatments when my colleague wished for one because his daughter had a rare malignancy, and the treatment they gave her in the States rendered her unsuitable for the more successful treatment he and his wife took her to find in Tokyo. Of course, a pin trading database of real and their fake un-twins would be substantially less value-adding (try telling that to the most ardent pin traders) than the illness and treatment databases that now exist, with enough interest and motivation, a Real-and-Fake database that would be at least as comprehensive as the one that's been started at PinPics might be achieved. So, that's not very comprehensive (I'm not knocking PinPics, it's a daunting task with new pins and new fakes coming out in droves almost daily), but it's a start. Would I build it? No. Would you? No. But someone may get a solid one started...or perhaps someone somewhere already has. Wishfully thinking.
Thank you for this video! I have a pin I was questioning and I was going to go back and watch your old video and then I saw you had a new one. Really enjoyed this! Very helpful.
Is there anywhere to look up pics of the backs of authentic pins? I have a couple of pins that I got before I knew to watch out for counterfeits and while I can't see anything weird about the front of the pin, I still worry. One in particular doesn't have any nubs. I dont know if that's an automatic disqualifier or not. It would really help if pin pics users would put both sides of their pins
Hi Emily. This was very helpful to see them side by side. In looking at some of the fakes, not all of them, but some of them had coloring that seemed brighter than the real ones. I could have actually selected the fake in error just because of that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in this.
I was told by a cast member that they made two versions of that particular pin and one of the versions actually is the “fake” design and color scheme. (For the one with the yellow ears.)
Thank you very much for this information!! I just purchased a fake pin lot from Ebay. I knew they were fake. But I just got them for my collection. Not to trade them.
How quickly do fake pins enter the parks after they are released? I'm interested in collecting, but fakes spoil the fun. Are the pins from the most recent wave of hidden mickeys generally real? What about all the new pins from that year?
4:14 I'm pretty sure you don't mean 18 ounces. That would be 1 pound and 2 ounces. 18/100 of a pound, which is what the scale on the left is saying, is about 3 ounces.
This was soooo good! I have just recently started loving HM pins. I hate that they're scrapped and faked so much, but I'm glad for resources like this to help distinguish! Thanks for putting this together
The worst part is at this point there’s so many fakes I get pretentious people trying to tell me pins I have had since buying them new at 8 years old in a mystery bag are “fake”
And by mystery bag, I mean I am physically standing under the epcot ball buying a pack with a mystery pin in it in my memory. How the hell would that be a fake pin?
The problem with this is if we could get a real one to compare the game with is if we have a real one we wouldn't get a fake to compare it with in the first place. Plus on pin boards we can't compare how thick or thin metal is or how big the back nuds are. Or the waffle backs. Yes thank you once we trade for the pin we can tell the backs. Also a cast member told me some authentic pins don't have nuds. Thanks for all your info .
Its funny that you showed that the magnet test isn't reliable because I have been told by a cast member that they keep magnets behind the counters of shops to test the pins if you ask. I wonder where that all got lost in translation
@@MagicallyEmily That is super funny and also sad! I met one cast member who had great information at the Contemporary Resort. If I had a twitter I would totally try to shout him out but his name was Ashley and he was able to tell us all the differences between the fake and real pins on one particular set my friend was trying to collect. He stood there and talked with us for a while. He could honestly teach a class to the other cast members lol.
@@toriandtilly I had a similar situation at WDW Magic Kingdom. We had two of the same Tinkerbell pins and were debating which one to trade. The cast member explained that one was probably fake. It opened up a whole world and eventually let me to find Emily's channel because I wanted to know more about how to tell real vs. fakes for our next trip!
I am so glad I came across your channel! I've been a hobby collector for a while, and your videos are wonderful! I had been hoping to be a more serious collector, so this helps tremendously. It also helped me spot the fakes in my collection! I really appreciate your channel and your videos!!! Definitely subscribed now 💙
Can you make some more fakes videos? I can’t tell the difference in a lot of the pins that I own... if there is any. The quality of real pins hasn’t been very good lately either.
Love this video! I hope Disney continues to make it harder and harder to fake pins, and eventually weed them out all together 🤞🏼 I’ve also seen hidden Mickeys and other scrappers with the Mickey waffle where part of the waffle is kind of stippled, but the actual Mickey is the regular metal. Anyone know what I’m talking about? I don’t think I’ve seen it on authentics :)
Hello. First of all, I love your ears. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes it's hard to tell the fakes or scrappers on trading boards unless you have the real ones to compare with.
I have a swan that has a green beak and a yellow background It is so pretty The beak is the same but the real teller was the weight the imprints and the nubs 😢😢😢 I am so so sad But now I know
I prolblem i have is tradeing online people saying they are real only to find out after the trade are fake or scrappers. That is heart breaking and damming to the hobby.

Agreed and affirmed.
Half the time I still can’t tell the difference... Ugh!!
The pin community doesn't deserve you. Thanks for doing this work!

I’d love to see a video about what you think of the loungefly pins!!
Another great, informational video! I typically reference your fake pin videos when receiving questions.
Thanks, Ryan!
Thanks soo much for all you do! Your channel is so great!

There’s probably thousands of pins that have been faked over the years, so unfortunately that’d be impossible!

No, there’s nowhere to find the back of pins. You’d just want to post in the pin trading Facebook groups for comparison help
This video is so helpful! Thank you so much for all the hard work!

Yes definitely I great guide. 👍 Thanks for sharing!
Hi, I have a quick questions. What are exactly numbs? Is that how you spell it? Is it the little cones on the back?
Would love to see a video on the most expensive hidden mickey pins! The other video only had limited edition ones so it would be interesting to watch.
There really aren’t any ‘expensive’ Hidden Mickey’s. The pig decal and a few completer pins are the only ones that seem to hold high value!
What a great video, thanks for putting this video together, loved it!
Love your Imaginex ears!
Good job Emily, keep the good work from me in Colorado.
But how do I know its fake if I never saw the real one?
I was wondering the same thing!
Thanks for that now I'll tell the difference between real and fake disney badges thank you
This is an amazing video. Thanks for your work to better this community.
Wow thanks this was really helpful
This was so helpful! Thank you!
12:15 I don't know if it was intentional but they got the Roman numeral for 4 wrong. It's supposed to be IV not IIII.
thank you so much!

Hi! I have one of the animal kingdom lodge pins and mine also says 5 of 5. How is that possible or what does that mean? I believe mine is real!!

You always come through with the pin videos!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 And I gotta get the ravenclaw banner you have!💙🦅
Destiny Magica It got it from the Wizarding World! (but back in 2011!)
Blobby Mickey on fake swan too. Good vid. Thx!

Cast Members unfortunately are often a top source of misinformation when it comes to fake pins

I have 5 other videos all about fake pins and identifying them, so I’ve covered most everything on the topic :)
You should do a video like this with the puffles because of how heavily faked they are
This is really helpful. I'm fine with having fake pins if they're not big, but I don't want to buy in bulk then trade fake pins around the parks 😂

I thought any that doesn't have the Mickey pattern on the back are always fake. Oh no...I may have tossed some real ones 😞
Thanks for your post. Will be a first time trader when I take my daughter in october. Wouldnt want a fake
I told my dad that there are fake Disney pins and he still thinks I’m lying. It’s been 2 years.
Pin weighs 18 ounces. I think you mean grams.
Thank you again for getting back to me on email about my pin!!!!
