Very true. Ever since the 'tanker war' in the 1980's when Iran didn't have the resources to close the straits against western will to keep them open there's been concerns about securing oil and gas supplies. - Arguably even back to 73 and the 1st 'oil shock' when OPEC showed how vulnable much of the world was to disruption. Plenty of talk and presumably plans made for how to keep supply lines open, which became more and more of a risk as Iran git stronger in missiles and drones.
So what master plans did the genius's in the current US administration have for when at attacked Iran inevitably moved to play that card? "Duh we never thought of that."😲

You'd have had to not speak to a single person with even a passing familiarity with the Mid East to not have realised that closing the Straits of Hormuz has been Iran's ace-in-the-hole since the revolution.
I can see the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State from my house, and that's about 20 miles across the Strait.
I would be willing to wager a few quid that donald trump didn't actually know what the strait of hormuz was until he started this attack, or that he could point to where Iran was on a map.
I am guessing that they thought air assets alone would have forced Iran to capitualte.

Is it just me or are the parallels between what the US is doing now and the factors that contributed to the collapse of the USSR rapidly piling up? Like the USSR, the US is going to be facing consumer good shortages, their military spending is going to spiral out of control after getting into a conflict in the Middle East, and their GDP for the past year has been propped up by the AI bubble, er, I mean "industry".

Now Trump has a new problem. He doesn't know the whereabouts of Iran's enriched nuclear material and the only way to find it is boots on the ground. There is of course still negotiations, with the new and much more radical Iranian leadership? Quicksand as far as you can see. Poor leadership has a way of punishing the perpetrators?

Why would you negotiate with an administration that doesn't keep its word and uses talks merely as cover to launch wars you weren't expecting, how can you ever trust them again? You may just as well negotiate with Hitler about not invading Poland because he had that already planned and ready to go all else being merely a smokescreen. Theres also the slight matter of the US having killed his father, mother, wife and possibly other relatives so he's maybe, just maybe, not ready for sit down talks with the US just now. Trump has dug himself and the US into a very, very big hole.
