      There is NO way Estonian sounds like Russian. ;Maybe only if there is a Russian trying to speak Estonian and not doing a very good job at it.Is is a huge insult for Estonians to mix us up with Russians.

    She just thought it sounded similar. Maybe they don't even know exactly how Russian sounds because they are from US and they don't have Russian speakers around. Tallinn does have a big Russian population and it's possible they were hearing Russian and thought it's Estonian. Don't make such a big deal about it.

    - Blini aren't an Estonian dish though as Estonia is not a Slavic, nor Eastern European country. You just happened to be in a restaurant that offers them.
    - Estonian is absolutely not similar to Russian as it's not an Indo-European language like Russian and English are.

    • @olivera90
      @olivera90 6 лет назад +9

      Exactly! Estonian language has nothing to do with any Slavic language. It's a part of Finnic branch of the Uralic language family.
      Also, Blinis are Russian/Slavic dish.

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  6 лет назад +3

      +Eksi arvamus you're not wrong and I never said Blini was Estonian. Also Ashley just meant it sounded Russian to her, or more accurately that she doesn't know the difference between the two when listening in on a conversation.

    • @starvid1310
      @starvid1310 6 лет назад +1

      Well, what sounded Russian to Ashley definitely was Russian, because there are living a lot of Russians in Estonia and Latvia(the biggest amount of them in capitals of those countries), less in Lithuania(heritage of occupation of the USSR) and they simply are speaking Russian. It`s the same as if I will tell to everyone after visiting Maiami restaurant that English sounds like Spanish. I don`t know how about you, but I am trying to learn and find out beforehand some info about country, its culture, language etc. I am going to visit and therefore to show some respect to it and not total ignorance.

      Estonians consider themselves nordics. Some people disagree, but the fact is that they did have a prolonged relationship with Scandinavia and Finland. They’re also an observer state at the Nordic council (ie. they’re part of the council but they don’t have any power).

    Anytime a goverment emplyee or doctor looks at your information, you will be able to see that they did and why. Doctors instantly check your medical history, prescriptions, allergies ect. even if youve changed doctors many times. As far as i know only police can check your public transport history if they have a warrant. Your personal details cannot be sold to private interests unlike in the us.

    Estonian is not similiar to Russian, although Estonian does have some loaned words from Russian like "garaaž" (garage).

      Haha, not to mention the gender distribution is off, Estonia has second highest women to men ratios in the world. Which is why you sometimes see some odd looking couples that may not make sense to foreigners.

      What the hell. What kind of question is that. Is the US a good place to find a husband? I am pretty sure that if you like a person for whatever reason, and the other person likes you for whatever reason, you are going to hit it off. Estonia is not extremely different from other European or North American countries, when it comes to simple/complex manners such as attraction or love. I think that the goals are quite similar. Estonians are pretty honest people id say, and if they will like, then they will like you. Just go with it, and see what happens. Get to know the person. Everyone is individuals after all.

      Well, Estonian men don"t like to get married. Neither are Estonian people very monogomous. Just keep that in mind. Otherwise, we are people like anyone else, some you might like, some not. But are you prepared to live in Estonia? Do not expect your Estonian husband to come to US with you.

    Thank you for a nice positive video diary. It's clear you have a lot to learn about us.
    Some commentators here reported that you did not eat national dishes. Yes, food also changes with time in the culture.
    Even in our homes, we do not eat every day many dishes from 100 years ago. There are special retorans for this. But development is something nice, why stop it. So we and you could taste the newer Estonian dishes. But still Estonia's tastes.
    If you say Estonians are Slavic people, it is very offensive to us.
    First, we have a completely different language and culture.
    Secondly, the Russians have caused us a lot of pain and death. They've occupied us and deport 23% of the population to Siberia without having to return home. Most of them were old people, women and children, many of them died due to cold and hunger.
    274 260 estonians Died in Siberia. And ouer population is 1 miljon estonians onely now!!!
    You wouldn't say to the Jew that you are similar to Nazi Germany.
    It is even a wonder that Russians who stayed here after Estonia regained independence have not been hostile.
    However, Russia is dangerously close to us.
    God please protect us from the fate of Ukraine...
