Are errors STILL not showing after this? (I've found a few instances where something else is unlinked) There is another thing you can try - check out this video for next step: ruclips.net/video/4KoJ7Dw2rDI/видео.html
Trying to self-teach/learn coding, having Visual Studio show you where errors are is so helpful. I updated Unity and was completely lost as to why VS was doing this. Lost the entire day trying to find the fix before finding your video rather late in the night. I've stared at experimental lines racking my brain trying to figure out why the compiler is running into errors only to finally look at the error list and see I'm missing a parentheses or a semicolon somewhere. THANK YOU!
I'm so glad this helped. I am not sure why these latest versions of Unity seem to disconnect from VS (they never had before). Keep an eye out for the "miscellaneous files" thing at the top - it may happen again. I am going to see if I can find out how to fix it for good... Anyway I wish you well on your coding journey - I do have a bunch of videos that cover "traditional" coding topics but while using Unity - hopefully you find those useful too.
Thx, really huge help. For futre reference to other ppl: - try making sure the "Embeded Packages" and "Local Packages" boxes below in Preferences > External Tools are also checked - uninstall and then reinstall Visual Studio extentions such as the "C#" one
Thank you so much! I was puzzling for so long, browsing through Google on what to do, even trying to figure it out by myself. Such a clear and easy explanation.
i love you, thanks! Its weird tho that i dont get any error corrections in visual studio when i just code without unity. But since im using it only for unity its fine for now
hmmm... did you close visual studio & open the script again through unity (not from visual studio)? I think i've had it not work and then i went back into unity and opened the script again through there & it registered fine.... I'm not sure why it wouldnt connect for you. I hope you can get it working!
Ive run into that before where i had to close visual studio then re-open through unity. I've even seen it where i had to close both unity & visual studio then re-open - I'm not sure why it is so stubborn sometimes. I hope that helps & it is finally working for you
Not sure if you have fixed this or not, but I just found another thing you can try - check out this video for another thing that might fix it for you: ruclips.net/video/4KoJ7Dw2rDI/видео.html
Anyone else have issues with errors not being tracked in the error log? Everything in the video works exactly fine. I get red lines etc, but it doesn’t report any compile errors in the error log. I have to go to Unity to find out what errors I have if I don’t spot a red line. Totally busted and I can’t work out how to fix it.
I dont know if this will help but worth a try: Double check in the upper left corner of the open script to make sure it ends up saying "Assembly-Csharp" and NOT "miscellaneous files". Even after the change if it still says the miscellaneous files Unity isnt really connecting. You could also try closing Vis. Studio then re-opening the script in Unity to see if that helps.
Not sure if you have fixed this or not, but I just found another thing you can try - check out this video for another thing that might fix it for you: ruclips.net/video/4KoJ7Dw2rDI/видео.html
this is my fifth video. everyone saying edit>pref>tools> select code editor. mine is already selected on VS 2022 but still no syntax highlighting. and I even modified according to previous videos where selecting game development with unity module to VS. and still no syntax highlighting. need help
did you ever get it working? I just found a way to help someone who had this as a problem - if it still doesnt work try this: in visual studio open the solution explorer - in the one I saw Assembly C-sharp indicated it was "unloaded" for some reason. by right-clicking and choosing "Reload project with dependencies" it fixed it. Let me know what you did or found out or if it is working! So frustrating when it isnt showing!
@@Digestible Thanks for getting back to reply. THAT FIXED IT!!!! its all good now. this was the answer i've been dying for all these times. Thank a ton mate. Cheers 🙌🙌✨✨💫💫
@@LEVELSTAIROfficial That is FANTASTIC to hear! I was trying to help a student of mine and was having real difficulty figuring out what was going on. Thank you for letting me know it worked! I might make another video with this in case others run into this as well. (the trick will be how to figure out how to "break" my link in order to show how to fix it!)
had the same problem, manually go in your visual studio folder, than in the common7 folder, than in the IDE folder and than look for devenv.exe and select it, that should fix the problem.
Thank you so much, although for me it didnt appear as an option in unity, so I had to manually select it. For those having the same issue look in your Visual Studio folder and open the Common7 folder than the IDE folder and than look for devenv.exe that is the right executable.
Sometimes you need to close unity & visual studio after doing this & re-open the script through unity in visual studio to see if it then works (just changing the setting may not fix it on its own). I'm not sure what else to tell you without knowing/seeing what the issue might be
@@Digestible So I did re-open each- doesn't seem to want to cooperate. Visual studios did show me some kind of extension I could download involving Unity. I think I did, but maybe I'm missing a step. Any ideas? (Btw I really appreciate the help)
