Am I supposed to put the dial on the shaft so that the pin contacts the shaft pin??

I'm trying to measue 3.9xx using the biggest anvil and no spacer according to the provided sheet, when i put the dial into the shaft barely touching, the measurement is out of the accuracy range and its difficult to check in a micrometer because of so much movement. And because of that i shocked the dial but allowing it to spin too quick. the instructions are terrible!

As Philip, we recently bought a 511-703 and didn´t come with the list too. But we use the milimetric one, so the washers are milimetric too (0,5; 1; 2 and 3mm). Do you have the same list, but for these washer kit?
