this. metroid fans want this. mysterious planet, scifi, ambient sounds/music. edit played the game, and i like the setting, very cool. though we are looking at a V0, it need some updates for loading screens where music stutters, it is not realy a fluid experience, but i like this game ambiance, indeed close to a real metroidvania game, the music and sound is awesome. also i think the gun you get in the begining should use faster
Due to technological advances, game studios know they can release a rushed game and patch it up little by little after it's release. Long gone are the days, when game studios had to release a functional game at launch.
@@themastermind5638 I still think there needs to be some sort of regulations on releasing something. I can understand a patch for adding something and tweaking it on occasion but I hear you fully and agree. They should at least have to lower the price of games instead of making them more expensive. I know nothing I say will change it but I am glad I grew up in the 80s and 90s aside from graphics and being able to play with friends across the world I still think that games lack a lot of the magic they used to. I don’t think it really got to bad till the ps4/xbone generation, but now it’s really bad seemingly like something we just expect to happen with new games and I wish that wasn’t the case.
It's a studio of six guys, and it took them 5 years to complete the game. Time was not the problem, but, probably, the financial factor counted more heavily.
Think I’d prefer games to either be canceled, or delayed than released in this sort of state. I doubt many devs want to release their games like this. Likely publishers and the people controlling the money doing it. It’s frustrating.
Man another year and no Metroidvania to stand against Metroid. We will never get the greatness that was Aliens Infestation or The Mummy Demastered again.
I bought it day one and besides the long initial loading times (and when you die), I liked all the rest. The accessbility options adding auto-aim helps a lot.
I was hoping for this to be a mars-terpiece. Ugh. Too bad. Ah well. Back to NMS i go. I just discovered a veeery intersting planet and im having a blast exploring it.
@@SiobhanR28 indeed. I am loving it. The game makes me feel small though. Very small. Like microbe small. So many systems. So many planets to explore. So much fun. 😆
I don’t understand why all games don’t have demos these days. It nice when you can at least play a little bit to make sure you like the mechanics of the game.
What a shame, I was hoping for this to be great. It made me think of Shadow Complex a bit. Maybe some patches will see it put right. Thanks for the review.
if one were to temporarily pass on this or any title do to some certainly fixable issues apart from hoping it pops up in one of your "All Patched Up" videos, how can someone tell if a game has been patched or what the current version is if it isn't currently installed?
Too bad ☹️ was hoping this game would turn out good. Also, switch up, unrelated but have you guys played nightmare reaper? If not it’s on sale right now and I would love you proffessional opinion on it because there is not much coverage on it for switch 🙏
Trinity Fusion is the MUCH better buy, but they’re both $2-$5 Steam sale games. Cant deal with the aliasing, visuals, low resolution, and frame rate of the Switch. For me I prefer to invest in the PC/Steam Deck for now until the Switch 2 proves itself worth the money, and devs upgrade a huge chunk of the games I like, to run better on it.
That s weird ,i ddnt get ur notification today, nore two days ago. 🤷♀️ i check everyday fortunately, but isnt it weird? Does anybody else have this happen to them too? About the game,i ll wait for trinity fusion, it looks better than this one. Plus, metroidvania-wise, if its not Metroid , its rare i m interested, but i liked what i saw of trinity fusion. I ll wait for ur guys review tho.😊
Is there life on Mars...aye dooo dooo do doo, god bless Bowie. Aye I'm as old as you. Game looks ok but I think I'll hold to for now, my backlog is, keeps, getting bigger dammit. Cheers lads😊
So many Metroidvania that this game doesn't stand out. Shame to say it. Speaking of Metroidvania. Hoping Konami would port the rest of the Metroidvania games, including Symphonia of the Night on Switch.
unless its silk song, i dont want to see another side-scrolling metroidvania. there must he hundreds at this point. all things considered, mars 2120 does seem to break free from the traditional route, albeit rough around the edges 😅 thanks for the review
Not a great lover of side-scrolling metroidvanias anyway, so this isn't one that's on my list, especially with the issues and shortcomings. Another great and well-delivered review as always.
Unfortunately it is overpriced for what the reviews say. Most likely it will be great on sale. And with the fact those probably thousands of metroidvania games this unfortunately doesn't have what it takes.
This looks so bad. Terrible textures and 30fps? I mean, I was not expecting Metroid Dread polish but come on, they could have done so much better. Even then, I refuse to play metroidvanias at 30fp, reason I left Zau. Even Ubisoft got it right with the latest Prince of Persia.
There are such masterpieces in this category it's hard to compete. Have not even finished hollow knight and the two ori. Will not play this one tomorrow. Nor the day after.
Just by looking at it on the eshop, suggested to me that it might not be worth my time. I'm already very picky about another side scroller, so hearing what i was already thinking about it from someone else, proves further that I'm not the only one thinking that.
Reminds me of Shadow Complex but with a less sure sense of style and less gameplay flourish (like shooting into the background). Shadow Complex should be on the Switch, btw. It's odd that it isn't. Ran on the 360. Should run fine on Switch, I would think.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... I reckon these devs wanna MARRY Metroid Dread Fair play for having a go lads, but she's out of your league! (Oh and yeah, I'm old enough to get the Bowie joke...)
I thought Prince of Persisa and Contra were sub par, i thought they had been rushed, whether they were already in production or not when Metroid Dread was first shown. Metroid Dread is polished to a fault and has amazing gameplay. A game like this could of been great, a 2.5d Doom or a 2.5d Red Faction, both great games that have stood the test of time
Looks pretty bad to be honest. If you had said it plays really well or has some novel ideas, it could have been worth a bash, but it looks soooo cheap.
Just bored of games like this, run around, shoot the red barrels, get lost, it’s a chore. Yawn. Appreciate the review and if you enjoy metrovanias then good for you.
I feel like there's a small but dedicated fan base of people who buy all these metroidvania type games. I never see these games get particularly big, yet there's like hundreds of them being made.
You may be right, I was a stupid crazy vania fan, I've bought way too many as love the...genre?... If we call it that. but also bitten. So I'm much more circumspect now.
I feel like there’s actually more roguelikes these days. Probably because the randomly generated aspect means they don’t need to waste time designing levels.

Finally, an ACTUAL scifi looking metroidvania to scratch the Metroid itch. I'm going to keep my eyes on this.
this.

"Needs more polish" I see this more and more atm...such a shame. I'd rather they took more time to make a quality game...
I agree there needs to be a standard set. It’s a shame that so much gets released in such unpolished states.

08/20 for visuals seems a bit too harsh based on what I'm seeing on this video. The game actually looks pretty decent.
Yeah, felt the same
Life on Mars - David Bowie
It's a really good brit show, like the Prisoner. Highly recommend it.
@lotheravanti4295 It is. The sequel, Ashes to Ashes was again named after another David Bowie song
Thank you for the review!💚
This game reminds me of metroid
Wow you guys have been cranking out videos and releasing them early in the day, amazing! Thanks for all the top tier content
If this ever drops below $5 I'll consider it.
Ah man this one initially looked interesting
Man another year and no Metroidvania to stand against Metroid. We will never get the greatness that was Aliens Infestation or The Mummy Demastered again.
Depends.
Prince Of Persia: Lost Crown and Nine souls (soon on Switch)
Are both considered amazing games for the genre.
I usually enjoy metroidvanias, the exploration and the upgrades.
Personally, I feel metroidvanias should go fps
I bought it day one and besides the long initial loading times (and when you die), I liked all the rest. The accessbility options adding auto-aim helps a lot.
Getting Shadow Complex vibes with this one.
First thing I thought. To me that's a good thing!
First thing I thought too. For me that's a good thing.
YOWCH. That might be one of the worst visuals scores I've seen on this channel! Side note, we need a fun roundup of the worst visuals on Switch!
0:33 David Bowie 😅
Such a bummer. I can see how this could have been a great game.
Let's go! Thanks guys!
Shame. I have higher hopes for Trinity Fusion, which has similar gameplay and also came out this week. So far had a lot of fun with the demo!
Yeah that's a much better game I think
I was hoping for this to be a mars-terpiece. Ugh. Too bad.
Ah well. Back to NMS i go. I just discovered a veeery intersting planet and im having a blast exploring it.

I've been binging NMS lately as well thanks to the new update mostly fixing the terrain manipulation lag. Such a wonderful game on Switch!
i always love metroidvania aproaches, can't have enough of these games. any attempt to try to get as close to the ambient of super metroid is welcome.
I don’t suppose you guys are doing a review of Trinity Fusion? That was one of the other ones coming out this week that looked interesting.
It's a Roguelite but probably Is a much better game though
@@ZamWeazle I thought this one looked ok, disappointed by the outcome of the review.
Ouch! Was this one of the lowest scores given this year? Great review - 😊❤
Oy, was half expecting the Guv to show up and start busting blokes at that Life on Mars mention, though it would probably be closer to Ashes to Ashes.
nice review. will keep an eye out for when it is on sale.
soooooo when they going to finish the animations? i appreciate the placeholders but in my opinion that should have been finished before release
I don’t understand why all games don’t have demos these days. It nice when you can at least play a little bit to make sure you like the mechanics of the game.
Bowie forever
This gives me a Metroid Dread vibe, due to the 2.5D visuals.
What a shame, I was hoping for this to be great. It made me think of Shadow Complex a bit. Maybe some patches will see it put right. Thanks for the review.

all the young dudes can appreciate Life on Mars?
You are a poet! Standing on the shoulders of giants! 😂 Not everyone can be heroes!
This is interesting. I didn't even know this exist
I like the David Bowie reference 🎶

That’s such a shame. It looked really promising from the trailer. I even went so far as to add it to my wishlist.
It does really give off a sub par vibe, which I know is a terrible thing to say because it's not constructive at all but it is what it is!
Square Enix gotta port some Xbox 360 game from its backlog, like Just Cause 2 or Lane and Linch
"Life on Mars" David Bowie? Or "Life on Mars" the TV show?? Because both are absolutely epic and bring back awesome memories!
I was going for Bowie, but both work! Glen
Good story cutscenes gameplay new game plus when that happens makes a great game.

Nooooooo I had high hopes 😭

Too many similar games. It seems a candidate for your saveloy section in a couple of years.

should games this late in a consoles life still need polish? hasn't the switch kinda been figured out already?

57% for a straight up bad game lol i feel like if the game doesnt have atleast 85% it is not worth it now
