    Good video mate. It’s crazy times. I sold my R32 GTR, 7 years ago for 25k, to add to our house deposit and get the house we wanted. I thought, once we are established, I’ll get another one again. It went crazy. I can’t afford 100k for an R32 GTR now. Before people say I missed out on getting good money for my GTR, well I bought my house for 1 million and it just got valued at 2.5 million, in just 7 years. So I feel ok about that.
    Thing is, alot of these cars, including GTR’s, aren’t rare. There is alot of them. I can’t understand such a huge price rise.

      @thomjanson9644 I'm kinda in the same boat as you, I had a R32 GTR that i bought in 2009 for $10k and sold to a close mate of mine for $6k back in 2013 though it was a little bit rough as it needed a new front bar and a respray due to faded paint which my friend i sold it to ended up finishing off and he ended up selling it for $8k. A few years later(maybe about 2017 or 2018) out of curiosity i checked out the prices and holy shit they had skyrocketed, then during Covid the prices jumped even more, like you said 100k for a GTR, there's no way i could afford another one at those prices. Im kinda kicking myself for selling my GTR but im also glad that i did get to experience owning it too.
      I've currently got a BA XR6 Turbo that i picked up for about $5000 about 10 years ago that i was daily driving up till a couple of months ago when i bought a Camry as a daily, the XR6T i'm going to work on as time permits and its now my weekend fun car but i've noticed even prices on those cars are going up too, a ok example of a XR6T i saw recently with more klm's on the clock than mine is going for $18k, like wtf is going on i dont know

    Yeah, I bought an old house on 2000m2 on the outskirts of Perth 20 years ago. It has been a long job of renos and still ongoing 😂
    Of course the first job was a double garage. Then I built a shed. Now we have a carport out the front for our daily drivers (VF Commodore and D22 Navara). Garage houses my HQ Statesman and my wifes VT Commodore. The shed has my 76 Mazda 121 on a rotisserie . My dad has a Manx beach buggy back in Esperance that will be the last project 😔
    I can just never seem to get rid of cars
    Having said that, my neighbours very flash house, also 2000m2, is on the market for $900k. So it is certainly possible to have a larger block in some areas of Perth if you don't mind an older home.

    All of the high spec high performance vehicles from Ford and Holden will remain steady price wise over the next 18-24 momths, however demand will drop considerably with the macro pressure on the market meaning not many will sell, cheaper ones will appear depending on the desperation from the individual seller.
    What will drop dramatically is performance vehicles that are 5-10 years old and not considered "classic" and fall into that no mans land of being a few generations old and not appealing to newer car buyers. You really want to buy the category above and hold onto it and enjoy it, knowing that in 10+ years you'll recoup financially on it and have an infinitely better driving experience then an old Commodore or falcon 😂.
    Personally i was very very fortunate to be an enthusiast in the 2000s and have ticked the emotional ownership box on jdm Nissan's,supras,gtrs,hsv's,tickfords and FPVs....and even alot of cool Toyota 4wds like HJ61s, hiluxes and 4runners etc. the most i ever spent on any of the above was 18k for the genuine RZ JZA80 Supra with a big single 😂...even the 32GTR was 13k...and these cars were mint.
    I feel really sorry for enthusiasts now, the outlay is to big especially with the cost of housing and goods and services, I feel they need to just move on and away from all the 90s/00s hero cars as they are way to expensive for what they actually are and the reality of the ownership experience.

    My first car was an XE Falcon GL sedan in cream, with a 3-3 and four speed.......had her five years.
    Then I replaced her with an already quite old 1979 Mazda 323 1-4 auto in red with a caramel brown interior. Very slow.......but reliable. Everything still worked.
    After that, a 1985 Mitsubishi Colt sedan 1-6 auto....... surprisingly fast and very comfortable, then a 1990 TP Magna sedan in red with a grey interior, 2-6 carby auto with air and steer........slowish but quiet and comfortable........but quite troublesome.
    I then finally bought something contemporary; a 2012 Corolla sedan, in 2013.......a car I still have. I've NEVER had a drama with her.
    When my mortgage is cleared I plan on buying the current shape Toyota Hilux.........just a basic 2WD single cab tabletop in manual........I miss manuals.
    That vehicle will see me out.
    But yeah , I like Holdens though.

    Don’t forget surges in petrol price. Every time there’s a jump the large car and V8 market softens. When people get conditioned to the higher petrol prices as the “new normal” the car market recovers. At this point in time we have numerous contributing factors. And to blame baby boomers for it all is incorrect. The older baby boomers are 80 this year! Many of them retired 10-15+ years ago and have already spent their money in the market long ago. Homes they live in are becoming more & more reverse mortgaged. It’s only a small minority of baby boomers who are living it up in retirement. Lots of them are struggling - asset rich (ie, only the family home) and cashflow poor.
    Social media and FOMO are the main new players in the car market economy. Stupid people pay stupid prices and then every clown thinks their rusty piece of crap is worth the same. It has artificially inflated the market more than the law changes with SMSF boom hit muscle cars in the early 2000s. Free advertising on social media is driving these crazy asking prices. If people had to pay $50 each week to advertise their cars, the stupid asking prices would vanish real quick (why $50? In the 90s a Trading Post ad was around $15, so adjust it for inflation).

      *I'd say around the 1Ok mark. It is what it is. At the end of the day it's still a VB Commodore 2O2 Carby 6 cylinder. Saying that it could go for more to a person who really wants a clean low kilometre VB SL/E. If the body is straight with no rust someone might love it as the perfect car for an engine and gearbox conversion. Maybe a 5.O litre Injected V8 or 5.7 LS1,or an RB3O Turbo. Majority of people buying these older Commodores are just looking for a straight car, with no rust. If it was me I would start with a high advertised price and see if you get any interest. It also depends on how quick you want to get rid of it. If you want it gone quickly, advertise at a lower price, if you aren't in a rush start high price. If someone really wants it they will pay top dollar,but it won't be anywhere near Covid prices anymore.💯%*

Expect registration penalties on ICEs at some point calculated on capacity or number of cylinders. Not to mention that the more the world moves to hybrid and electric the less people are going to learn to work on older cars. The problem is, that the boomers are retiring and they hate to see the market tank even on a normal daily down turn. Yes, they have benefited from low prices when they were young, and now a home they paid $30,000 for is now $1,000,000. I grew up in Ipswich, my parents bought their home for $35,000 in 1982. And a friend was able to buy his first home with a housing commission loan at 2% when it was 17% from the banks in 1993, in Ipswich for $40,000.
    The Seven Nightly News in Queensland, had a segment about a economist, that has said that interest rates will keep going up at least 3 times this year. Going to a total of 5%. In my opinion, many companies want a server recession, so they can cut wages back to normal. Because, everyone wants wages to keep up with inflation. Yet it is that which will keep costs high.
    I do put my hands together, and clap for what the financial and political people have done to keep the system running. I was expecting a recession before covid hit, but a massive stimulus deterred that. But the massive lines to centrelink and the massive amount of people without work, showed everyone what it will look like when a server recession does hit.
    In my opinion, the high interest rates will cause a large amount of houses to be brought onto the market. Which will be bought from overseas (China), and things will keep moving like nothing is wrong. Eg, the Federal government took possession of a housing facility at Pinkenba in Brisbane, which the QLD government was in the process of turning it into a homeless housing place. The Federal government has set that as a place for the AFP (Seven News Brisbane ruclips.net/video/Euk2sGSPKE4/видео.html ). So this is what will happen as the world tries to keep the baby boomers from screaming like a coloured hair person that you called them their wrong pronouns.

    • @Low760
      @Low760 5 месяцев назад +2

      Boomers retiring or receiving money from the silent generation in inheritance is keeping the market up. Hence why there is a market for performance and repair workshops, boomers are paying for Thier cars of yesteryear to be built, or paying tradies too much to build houses etc and they spend the money. The 90s was depression by comparison, lots of industry died off because of lack of money everywhere. Now we're two speeds.

    • @honestpat7789
      @honestpat7789 5 месяцев назад

      Stop blaming the older generations, who’re simply playing the cards they were dealt but also had it pretty shit 20-30 years ago when the country went through a recession and interest rates were 20-30% or, even further back, when our grandparents lived through a fucking world War 😂
      Instead, look at what our government is doing. Importing ten times the historical average in immigration. Selling out to the big corporations like santos through cronyism. A government that no longer represents the citizens who elect them and are preparing to send us off to another pointless war that only the oligarchs will benefit from while our country turns into a wasteland, but yeah, the boomers are the problem 😂

    • @JakkaRM
      @JakkaRM 5 месяцев назад +8

      The key reason the housing market continues to defy gravity is the extreme levels of immigration that the current government has been running. It's not a very palatable thing for media to talk about as it runs the risk of sounding like a Pauline-Hanson-ite or a racist. However, it's not about anyone's race or where they're coming from, it's simply just supply and demand economics. Australia has been running a net overseas migration figure that far outstrips our capacity to build dwellings.
      You also need to consider the effect this has on our infrastructure and services. A lot of it is buckling under the weight of our population. When state governments try to build infrastructure projects to try and catch up with the population growth, they're spreading the construction industry even thinner. It's not like we don't have enough construction workers either, Australia has one of the highest portions of the population employed in the construction industry in the OECD. So anyone thinking the solution to this is just immigrate more people needs to realise that it will exacerbate the problem and cause shortages of workers in other industries.
      Immigration needs to be brought back to a level that allows us to maintain ample housing/infrastructure/services/etc. I have little hope of this happening though, as big business and the federal government froth over massive population increases. For big business, it increases their market size with no additional effort on their part, and it also keeps downwards pressure on wages. The federal government sees income tax dollar signs and a saviour for their holy GDP figure. You can bet that these two groups will do all they can to avoid the conversation shifting to sustainable immigration.
      I see so many people blame red herrings (e.g. boomers, landlords, negative gearing), but you need to remember that these groups have only been able to profit because the market went nuts--not the other way around. If the federal government wasn't so incompetent, and they controlled their immigration intake to match what was actually going on in this country, then we wouldn't be in this mess. Meanwhile we've got people working full time in lower paid jobs and pensioners getting pushing out onto the street because they can't afford anything in the rental market disaster. Shameful.

    The car industry is dead. The commodification of the motor vehicle is here. EVs have detroyed the industry. Just get your ICE vehicle that you have aspired to and enjoy

      Your first car has to be your most interesting. Get the car you really want.
      Get it off your chest.
      Once you marry with kids, mortgage, etc, responsibilities take over and you're resigned to owning what the missus wants, or what is practical.

    The money people want for old cars these days is still insane. Mainly owned by cashed up boomers, drug dealers, shonky business owners and CPAs, everyone is getting fed up with making well off people richer to own their dream cars. An XY GT replica was $85k pre 2019. Now its $130k plus. No thanks. Then look at parts these days. Everyone wants an arm and a leg for spares. Rare Spares wants your right testicle and a kidney as well.
    Since the demise of Aussie car manufacturing the interest is starting to wane. Young blokes just don't care and aren't going to spend the money on old clunkers that get blown away by EVs. They are buying we work utes and giving their spare money to ARB and BCF to make a dual purpose vehicle instead. Camping and fishing is much cheaper.
    Then there's the ever increasing price of fuel. If you live in urban areas the chances of some numpty t boning or rear ending you because they can't drive for shit has increased dramatically. I don't see many classics cruising these days. They are garage queens. So what's the point?
    Times are changing and people are finally realising that toys can wait or can get lost completely in this new world order.

      Visit the country. There's always the odd farmer or dude on the edge of town with an old Valiant or Holden/Ford that's just sitting there doing nothing, hasn't been driven for years, gathering dust and getting faded by the sun.
      Make them offers then restore.
      Plenty of machinery out there that needs rescuing.

    If you buy a new car, and you live week to week, you're already behind.
    May as well get a tent while they're cheap, you're going to need it.
    If your car finance is more than half your yearly income, you're never going to get ahead.
    You also need to get a tent asap.

    Great video, I've subbed for more of the same. Our home grown Automotive marketplace especially the enthusiasts sector was essentially eviscerated beyond all common sense and logic. The aptly named Covid Tax on used Cars was farcical, any other time in history Aussie car enthusiasts would and should know the value of most vehicles on our roads, but instead of staying calm using our brains keeping a level head holding down the fort in the name of common sense,, we as the Australian car enthusiasts community lost our freaking minds, and as a result WE FAILED AND EMBARRASSED OURSELVES, Ground Zero was a block of flats in Brunswick, old mate was selling a dusty old VN Commodore s-pac manual rusted out Shitbox 338000 ks no roadworthy no reg the world would never be the same again when some REEEEEETARRRRD Apprentice panel beater paid out the insane sum of $8500 RIP COMMON SENSE. The most horrifying part about this at the time nobody really flinched nobody reacted why was this our world was imploding all around us let me remind you we witnessed everyday Aussies stock piling fricking Toilet Paper of all things, thousands of panicked Karen's nationwide left their abodes on NON SHOPPING DAYS they were on a mission, they would end up literally punching on with each other at their local Woolies for farks sake, cashed up Tradies and so-called investors buying up massively marked up 1000% toilet paper by the goddamn pallet load are you freaking kidding me these were normal everyday Australians now acting unhinged, and our automotive marketplace followed suit, absurdity stacked on insanity it was so out of character for Australians, my point being.. Well I kinda forgot my point, but this rant kind of took over😂
