This song is one of those they'd play whenever some kind soul would offer Tenma a place to forget all his troubles and live a happy life, but he'd always refuse with the same line: "I'm sorry, but there's something I have to do..." Those moments always made me feel like Tenma's journey was cursed with an inevitable end of failure, and he knew it all along yet he continued on. Invokes a tear, man.. :(
im sad ...im not sad that im dying. .im finally sad that my child died. ........people dont lose their emotions my emotions wandered around in an unknown place. its like a letter that was addressed to me decades ago has finally arrived. ........is this true sadness or is it happiness . ..................in the final episode of the magnificent Steiner .....,i bet he became human again
I thought the 6th line was: "......this is true sadness.... this is true happiness" Implying he knew those were the emotions he was feeling in that moment. In OP's comment it's implying he was asking a question. So which one is it?
“Martin, please” “You have to meet Eva in the station” “Martin....” Glad that everyone is fan of Grimmer but please let’s not forget about Martin, he deserved better too
It embodies all the tragedy of Monster; this was the song that really first made me feel really sorry for Eva after Martin's death, the song that made me realize the gravity of Grimmer's death and, as thebirthdaybomb pointed out, the song that so tragically embodied Tenma's journey into the heart of darkness.
The Magnificent Dr. Steiner in you truly was magnificent, but as were you, Mr. Grimmer; as a brilliant man of hope, a brave, tough soldier and a knowing, loving father. You were always human, and before death, you rediscovered your humanity. You are now relieved of duty. May God carry you gently to rest in peace.
This song makes me so happy. It makes me think that yeah it’ll be okay and the things I wanna do’ll be done, just take it one day at a time. I love monster so much and it’s only through this story did I realize that I can just be happy with myself and my life and no matter what it’s always worth living.
@Pevensify On the base, it's a horror/thriller anime. But it goes into all kinds of depth about psychological conditioning, eugenics, World War II politics, ethnic cleansing, deontology, forgiveness, and plain human relationships. It's sad, creepy, and exhilarating. Unfortunately, it's a bit slow to get started, so most people stop watching. But watch the whole thing - you won't regret it.
Johan is right in front of me. I have to end this. I can't lose any more people like Martin. You understand, don't you? I have to bring this to an end. - Doctor Tenma
This music, tge scene where Johan made an illusion to old blind (with ulterior motives) man is the scene i fall in love with him, it was amazing scene.
@Pevensify 74 episodes. It sometimes deviates from the main story, but revolves around Tenma (main character) and a few others. I still don't get everything - rewatching it. This particular soundtrack plays during the one scene that made me cry from this anime. Also, you might like Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Ergo Proxy, and especially Death Note if you liked Monster. I'm sure you've probably seen some of these already.
Certain part of this song (1:00-1:10 - where it gradually builds up right before falling slow and calm again) really reminds me of different one from a movie I saw, but I can't recall which movie it was or what song it was and it's been bugging me for weeks now >.
Hey and thanks for help! I've seen Lion King twice as a kid and that was quite a while ago, but memories work in funny ways sometimes, so it might be the right one - I'll check it out. Thanks!
Terrific song and anime, but is there an alternate version like the one in the anime? I'd love to have that one as well, as that buildup is tremendously powerful.
Al inicio no percibia esta cancion en la serie. Pero mientras mas me acercaba al final la sentia con mas intensidad. Como si estuviera hecha recien para los momentos mas depresivos y oscuros del dr tenma.

I think I know now how the Magnificent Steiner must have ended.
He probably...became human again.
Matthew Miller correct
:(
I remember in Another Monster there's an interview with the person who created the show, but I can't remember if he told about the end.
Steiner was a story about Johann. He became human again at the end

Admirable how Tenma remained extremely focussed on his mission despite all the chances where he could have escaped it all and led a normal life

Grimmer and Martin better characters than Richard but am I the only one who likes Richard he deserved better too
And Richard
In this dark anime the only one who always smile and bring happiness was the only one who didn't have any emotions
" what a sad story Grimmer-san"
El dr tenma tambien me daba esos sentimientos y a muchos personajes. Duele mucho tambien ver como esa luz se va desvaneciendo.
