- End 2019/early 2020 I built the Saturn V rocket kit by Revell ( • Apollo 11 - 1:96 model... ). After that I started looking for the Launch Umbilical Tower (LUT), because I really wanted to display the Saturn V on it. I found a paper version, designed and sold by David Maier from Edu-Craft Diversion (www.educraftdi... ). In February 2020 I ordered it together with the Lunar Module (LM), which I still have to start work on. Due to the Covid-crisis, the package didn't arrive until May. I started work on it in June. working on and off on the model, I finished it in February 2022. I wanted to display the Saturn V on its LUT in a showcase, but because of the size it was excessively expensive to have it built, so I decided to have a go myself. This turned out quite nicely. I also installed lights on every level and 4 flood lights on the corners, connected to a dimmer. It now stands proudly in our living room where I can enjoy my work on a daily basis :-)
Amazing build. So impressed. 👍👍👍
Outstanding job! The lighting of this model is beautiful!
Beautifully done! I just got the old Airfix 1/144 and I'm thinking about building the L.U.T. Thanks for sharing👍🏻💯
Great to see this and thanks for posting. You did a fantastic job, it looks incredible! I just ordered mine! 😊
Cool..I was thinking about going to do a 1 9/6 lut with a same scale V.A.B. building...and Pad 39A...just to figure out where I'm going to store all that,....lol
this is very underated
Fantastic job. Would love to know some of the details you added and improvements you made to the kit.
Outstanding!!!
awesome
That's awesome
weow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great job!!!!!!!1
are you having too cut everything out for this? looking into getting one and just curious
Hi, yes it's a lot of cutting 😀 And also you need to reinforce the structure more than is described in the manual. I used wooden skewers for some of the beams. And I bought paper art straws for the diagonal beams. This saves you from having to roll up many pieces of paper and looks much better anyway.
Hi ,please forgive my ignorance, but what exactly did you use the drinking straws for? I have this kit and with my limited eyesight l am hoping to make it an easier build. Any advice would be much appreciated. Fantastic work.
Thanks! The straws were not drinking straws but paper art straws. I used for the diagonal girders so I wouldnt have to roll up the pieces of paper, which was very time consuming and didnt work very well. I found this solution somewhere on the internet.
I was wondering if you would make me the fence rails for my tower at a price you offer. Or do you know where I can purchase them.
Hi George, sorry for the late reply. I bought a 3D printer to print the fence rails as I wanted more detail. At the moment I don't have time to produce them for you, due to a career change that takes all my time, but I might in a few months time. But it is not so difficult to 3D print them yourself. I bought a used 3d printer for 80 euros. If you do decide to go that road, make sure you buy one that can handle the 14 cm width you need for the fencing. I bought an Easythreed Nano, an had to print each fence at 2x 7 cm and glue them together. Not recommendable.... After finishin the tower I got so enthousiastic about 3D printing that I bought myself a large printer....... Wish I'd done that straight away.
