      Knowing the story of the collision and how they drew cards for who would get the bunk is pretty heavy to think about, situations in life where a single choice could have caused the death of one person or the other, gambling for the bunk not knowing that it was a gamble of who would live and who would die.

    • @plutarch78
      @plutarch78 8 лет назад +85

      It hits home for Kirk because the night of Cliff's death both of them were arguing about who got a particular bunk bed. So they drew cards and Cliff drew an ace of spades. He then told Kirk he wanted his bunk to which he agreed. Unfortunately, that was the bed which was next to the window that would see Cliff get thrown out of as the bus swerved and toppled over, pinning him down. Kirk knows that if he had slept in his original bunk bed it would have been him that died. Its hard to imagine having to live with that for the rest of your life.

    My thoughts on the 4:
    You can tell Rob is trying to be as respectful as he can be, and his story was a nice little uplifting part of this.
    James doesn't want to delve into his feelings too much. He's likely one of the people who grew up with the whole "emotions are stupid" environments like many people his age have. But he feels for the loss of cliff.
    Kirk gets super emotional due to all the traumatic memories surronding Cliff's death, and rightly so. He had the most direct trauma related to this event.
    I can tell that Lars is emotional about this despite hiding it very well, as well as distracting himself well by talking about Ray.

In a week I was out of bed and a month later the doctors were amazed because I was alright my kidneys were functioning properly and my blood was clean. I was given no new medication or treatment I was at home in care to die. That album saved my life. I know Cliff was not on that album but I loved him and the band. I had kill em all when I was 12 years old. I’m dribbling on but I just wanted to thank all the guys from Metallica now I’m older and I have 3 beautiful kids. Rock on boys rock on. 🎸🎤🥁🎸

    If you read about the whole Kirk and Cliff thing with the them swapping beds on the bus. Even though it wasn't his fault, I think he still feels guilty. Every time he's interviewed and they go into talking about Cliff he's nearly in tears.

    Cliff is an absolute legend and it's great to see people recognize his grave talent and originality to this day. Cliff is one of my biggest influences in life🙏 I'll never forget hearing the bass part from Orion for the first time and just being in total shock of how incredibly beautiful and intricate it was. RIP CLIFF🙏

    I just received the book yesterday and have already finished reading it (til 2am). With every page, I could visualize myself being there and I was born a decade after Cliff passed. Being the huge fan I am, it was hard to take a break from reading this as I wanted to know everything. This album had such a tremendous amount of influence on me. When I first heard the title track (especially Kirks solo) it made me pick up the guitar. I can't help but think that with this book, I own a piece of history. I've been an instant fan since 2009 and there were a few things in the book that I didn't even know. Maximum respect to Metallica (and Matt Taylor) for putting this masterpiece together. LONG LIVE CLIFF!!!! \m/

    Definitley caught the feels during Kirks part. Not only was Cliff their bandmate and friend but they looked up to him. They've alluded to it in many interviews and Jason touched on it more directly in his interview with Beez. Cliff was special, it shined through big time with his playing and writing style, and evidently, Cliff the person was every bit as great if not more so than the Major Rager we saw on stage.

    They still cry, they still grieve. Someone said the day you stop grieving is the day you forget. I have no stopped, nor will I. It's part of me now. My best friend died at the age of 24, back in 2000, june 12th. He was also our bassist. He died because he went into diabetic shock (think of a coma, but more like autopilot sleepwalking type of thing), while delivering pizzas for pizza hut. He was supposed to deliver a pizza a mile and a half away, and he ended up 62 miles away crashed into a concrete wall. I STILL tear up now thinking about it. I get it, I TOTALLY GET IT.
