Thx for the video dude! I'm a young student without much cash, so repairing something like my shaver, instead of replacing it, has a significant financial impact! With noone to help out, I turned to youtube and found your vid. The shaver is working once again, the reason behind was also super weird, but still....main thing is it's working again! So yeah, thx a ton!

    Hello,
What is the exact model number of this Philips shaver at this video? I am using Philips AT886/16 for last 5 years and I faced the same problem twice. For both of them, I solved the problem temporarily by pressing to power button several times. Fortunately it is working fine right now, but I don't know how long it will last.

Had the same problem, did what you did and it worked! Next day it failed but then started, day after that the problem was back. Don't think I'll bother opening it up again. I did notice that the inside seemed quite "'messy" and parts caked in grease, aswell as obvious signs of damp on the circuit board. As it happens I have two older phlips shavers. The oldest, a bit chunky, is still going strong and used for trave, the other works bout the casing around the on/off switch has cracked. I will try a Braun.

Thank you for showing how the case is held together. Like you my battery was charged and the switch worked, there were no signs of corrosion on the board (unlike electric toothbrushes). In my case it was the motor top bearing had seized, there were signs of water there. The top gearbox, can be pushed out by levering on the bottom of the motor, it pulls apart quite easily exposing two more screws which hold the base of the gearbox to the motor. I gently lubricated and encouraged the shaft to turn until the motor ran again. A tip, seeing how brittle those tabs were on the transparent cover I warmed mine gently with a heat gun and they didn't snap.

Mine is just two years old, with the blades replaced, and I got nothing when I pushed the switch, even with a full charge... I Just knocked it about in my hand with the just the head assembly off, then shook it a few times, pressed the button, and the damn thing works again! I think it has something to do with water or gloop getting down there, even though the unit can be used wet, which I NEVER do!

I have the AT899 06 (no clipper model). The charge light does not work and there is no life. I checked the charger which is outputting 8.4V (rated output 8V) curiously the shaver says input 15V. Contacted Philips and they tell me the charger is faulty and gave me a link to a retailer to buy a new one...nice one guys. I am now going to have at the insides having seen how easy it is...I bet it is a capacitor on the battery charge reg part of the board.

I opened an old shaver that stopped working in July 2019. The supposedly hermetic seals that enclose the circuit board had obviously leaked and the pcb was covered in brown dust. The motor was very badly rusted so the seal around the gearbox had also leaked, and I could not turn it. But the original problem was that it would only run for 2 seconds at a time when started. If I charged it overnight it would start reliably, and I could run it for many minutes - then run it again many times on the same day. But by the following day again it would only run for 2 seconds unless left on charge overnight. I suspect the circuit is designed to prevent operation if the battery is nearly flat, and as the battery ages the voltage at start-up is under specification. This is my third similar shaver. The previous one lasted from November 2017 to July 2019. I suspect the first one lasted 5 years. My guess is that they were all made at the same time (perhaps 2010) and the batteries have aged in storage.

Good video - have a similar Norelco/Phillips wet/dry razor I bought in 2020 and it went on the fritz. The power light bar lit up so I couldn't understand why it wouldn't operate. Opened it up and the negative/black battery wire came unconnected and I had to solder it back to the contact point it was attached to and then it worked again. Such crappy "workmanship" from a major brand that Phillips owns - doubtful I'll buy another Norelco/Phillips shaver again - back to Braun because those are built like tanks.

Same issue with mine. However: The problem seems to be the manner in which the wires leading from the PCB connect to the motor. I had to de-solder the wires from the PCB and then push the motor out of the plastic housing. Once the motor was out, I could see that the motor connections were simply "twist" crimped onto the wire holder (difficult to explain, but easy to see). After soldering the crips on both sides, the motor is running steadily. Simple fix.

I have a model from 1971 (a plug in model). It was still working untiol recently, and if I could get the pop up head to close properly again it would still work. But now when I open it, it either falls off or goes crooked and won't fully close (the pins don't hold any more). Believe it or not, it still has the same shaving razor heads--never needed to replace them. But, if I can't get it to close properly after cleaning, I'll have to buy the new garbage they sell now. It reminds me of their Soni-Care rechargeable toothbrush on a stand. I paid a lot of money for it, but one day it would no longer charge. They should have made it like their travel model with removable AA batteries--I've still got that one! I wrote to them about this, and they never had the courtesy to even reply. My old shaver was made in the The Netherlands, (where I was born), and back in the day (as you noted) they made quality products. Now that the bean counters run the show and greed runs high, all we get is throw way crap that does not last! And, of course, it's not made in the Netherlands any more...

Hoping maybe someone who has had this problem and/or knows what to do about it sees and can help.
The problem I'm currently having with my Philips 2000 shaver is that only one blade will spin. When opened and taken apart, I've found that all three pieces connected to the battery will turn, and they will turn the pieces that sit inside the blades, but only one of those pieces actually grips the blade and spins it - the other two pieces spin inside the blades, but the blades themselves do not spin. I purchased new blades and basically tried every combination I could come up with - full new blades, old blades with new inner pieces, new blades with old inner pieces, changing their positions within the shaver, but at the end of it all, what I found is that only one original inner piece will cause of the blades to spin. I tried holding the blade in my hand and turning the inner pieces inside of the blade with my fingers - the one inner piece that actually does work would not rotate inside the blade because it was gripping it. The other inner pieces would not grip the blade, and thus spun around inside the blade. Does this sound like anything anyone else has experienced?

I had problems with the switch not working, as well as the green indicator light going on with the unit not turning on when pressing the switch on my Aquatec... Then I rapped the thing a few times, and for a while, everything worked fine... Then one day, nothing, no activation, nor was there any charge activity... Since the stupid thing was beyond manufacturer's warranty, I just pitched it, and replaced it with a Philips 3000 wet/dry, and purchased an extended warranty via the retailer with this new one... We'll see how this one works... It seems to have a better switch assembly then the Aquawreck did... I remember my first Philips Norelco unit I used in the mid/late 70s when I was a teenager... Built like a tank, and went for almost 7 years until the motor gave out from heavy use... Now, I see they're garbage, just like you said...

I thought maybe the batteries have gone bad since it had been almost 5 years since I had bought it. Even with the new batteries, I have the same problem. Totally useless. Philips did fuck all when I contacted them, my shaver was a bit over 1 year old. All they had to do was send me another one, goodwill and all that. No, offered alternative models at a discount, so I could be fucked over again. No thanks, I bought a Braun instead, which I should have done.
