Near-Death Experiences and The Life Review with Bruce Greyson

  • In this interview with Christopher Naughton, Bruce Greyson, M.D. states that nearly 30% of all near-death experiences are accompanied by a “life review,” an examination of all the events in one’s life. They often are experienced with intensive detail, as seen and felt through one’s own perceptions as well as others, without judgment or punishment.
Greyson’s story begins in the early 1970s. Long before the term Near Death Experience (NDE) became part of our vocabulary, two figures crossed paths at the University of Virginia that would change everything relating to the yet-unnamed phenomenon. Dr. Raymond Moody, collecting stories of near-death experiences that would eventually be the basis of his groundbreaking best-seller "Life After Life," became a student of Bruce Greyson, M.D., a psychiatrist and professor at UVA who had collected a few NDE stories of his own. Moody would become a best-selling author on the subject and Greyson would go on to start IANDs (the International Association of Near Death Studies), author the book "After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal about Life and Beyond," and help formulate what would become the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) program. Today Greyson is a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia.
Greyson’s work reveals that NDEs have been reported in various cultures throughout history, indicating that they are not limited to specific religious or cultural beliefs. He also states that NDEs can lead to a transformation and renewal of one's perspective on life, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all beings.
This program was previously recorded for the seminar led by Christopher Naughton "The One Mind: Mind-Blowing Discoveries on the Nature of Life, Death and Consciousness." For more about future seminars (twice a year) subscribe to his newsletter here www.americasnextgreatawakenin...

When I was in junior high, one day after school I had not a life review but a soul review-a generalized review of all actions from all my lifetimes. First the bad, then the good followed by an instruction. It was just a quiet moment home alone as a latchkey kid. Before it happened, I sensed I had been pushing the experience away for several days but that there was no avoiding it. In third grade I had started a contemplative practice either before or after an NDE-I can’t remember which came first-and I think the soul review was triggered by developments in my spiritual life. Thank goodness for Jeffrey Mishlove and his body of work and now this channel! He’s been there all these decades as a kind, intelligent, and compassionate sounding board when I had little or no support in my own family, church, or community-or at least didnt know how to seek it out. Spending years with Asian teachers helped a lot too.

Consciousness is just a series of atoms and electrons which essentially gives us our mind and the soul is just a certain pattern of arrangement of atoms and electrons interacting with each other via the 4 fundamental forces of nature which essentially gives us our spirit. When a person dies these atoms and electrons get rearranged and that person ceases to exist. Near death experiences and out of body experiences are certainly hallucinations caused by dying brain cells firing randomly and going haywire as they start to die. It takes many hours, if not days for every brain cell to completely die, for every neuron to stop firing and for all electrical activity deep inside the brain to completely stop. Quantum Field Theory says that there is one field for every type of particle. There are no spirit particles or spirit forces that can interact with the atoms and the known forces in your brain and body because we would of already detected them in existing experiments. Any new type of particle or force that we have not yet detected would be either 1) Be too heavy to create, 2) Be to short lived to detect 3) Be weakly interacting or 4) Interact over too short ranges. In any case the new type of particle or force would not be relevant to what the atoms and the known forces are doing in your brain and body. The reason we are self aware, but not a rock or a table is particles have to interact and move around in certain patterns and certain configurations. Some near death experiences and out of body experiences contradict each other. They can not all be right but they can all be wrong. It is not the particles that matter but the patterns in which that are arranged. Consciousness and the soul is not an energy or substance like water or air but a process like fire, when you put out the flame on a candle, the flame does not go anywhere, the reaction stops and that is what happens when we die. The flame is a chemical reaction with the particles that it is made up of. There is no way for the information that is you to persist after you die and there is no way for the information stored in your brain to persist after you die. Your spirit or consciousness is not conserved in any way, the electrical energy in your brain simply ceases to be and will change form to a more disordered form of energy namely heat. This heat is not your spirit or consciousness, it is just the most disordered form of energy, thus all energy will eventually be converted to heat energy.

Every topic discussed on this channel is Gold. There's a treasure trove of nuggets in Near Death Experiences. I'm shocked academia doesn't take them more seriously.
If we have even one eyewitness to a crime it's enough to convict in a court of law. And we have many THOUSANDS of NDE accounts!
    Keep being excellent Jeffrey! ❤

Agree. Generally speaking, if psi was "put on trial" its existence would have been proven beyond reasonable doubt - FAR beyond, long ago (see Jessica Utts' analysis for example).
Progress is slow. Perhaps the notion that it nudges forward with the passing of each one of the current gatekeepers in the Ivory Towers.
It amazes me that Jeffrey's work was not only decades ahead, but could very well be a century ahead of its time. These interviews are precious and I have a hunch, will be the foundation of an incredible future...even if it's 50 years away.

I hardly consider a bunch of unverified anecdotes a "treasure trove of nuggets". That's not science.

    • @naytchh7
      @naytchh7 4 месяца назад +1

@Macceee A single person telling their story isn't sufficient evidence to be considered a fact via the scientific method. It's known as an anecdote.
However *when multiple independent anecdotes or pieces of evidence converge to support a common conclusion*, it can be considered a form of corroborating or converging evidence. Scientists seek converging evidence to strengthen the validity of their findings or hypotheses.
There are thousands of [Near Death Experiences](youtube.com/@TheOtherSideNDEYT?si=h2EUavgvR9N4IK0y) which are harmonious and fundamentally align.
There also thousands of [UFO abduction accounts](youtube.com/@EyesOnCinema?si=uEjjQnJLv4InSaSr) which also point to the same truth:
**We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.**

Be that as it may, you're not addressing the veridical aspect of the NDE that the commentator described.
There are many hundreds of those, too: materialists' explanations have to do better than merely stating that the principals in these accounts are confused or biased, especially since many of them are medical professionals involved with the resuscitation of the NDEer. (And many of those were present when actual 'flatlining' occurred vs. the 'near' part.

I like Virk's "The Simulation Hypothesis" proposal that says IF we are in a Virtual Reality then it's more likely we are not nonplayer characters (NPCs) who are drones with limited responses but are more like characters in a role playing game (RPG) with freedom to make choices and grow.
Most interesting is that inside the game are all the player Avatars and ouside the game are all the players, as conscious beings playing their respective Avatars.

Are the NDE’s always just a 1 degree separation of experience with others, or can it go out further if you are really EVIL or GOOD.
Ex. You beat up the guy, he doesn’t make it home, his wife chokes and dies leaving two kids without a mom?
It seems like a REAL life review should show you the TOTALITY of your actions… Great talk gentleman, thank you for the thoughts.🤙🏼✌🏼😊

Hi Rodney, Christopher Naughton here... yes Bruce neglected to finish the story and I did not prompt him, so that's on me... I did tell my class afterwards that the woman who had the near death experience told Bruce that she had seen him talking to her roommate (while she was in a coma) in a room down the hall... and she not only described the room, but the spaghetti stain on his tie! And he only had his jacket open for ten minutes and it was while he was in that particular room. It scrambled his mind because he could not figure out how she actually saw it and for a bit thought he was being pranked.

The Golden Rule (see at 15:43), despite its positive intent and time-honored tradition, is imperfect as a behavioral norm. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” does move beyond a self-centered “do unto others whatever benefits me.” But it achieves “do unto others something that benefits them” only in the special case where the other person’s wants and needs match your own. Often, what we would want for ourselves is actually something that is neither helpful to, nor appreciated by, the other person. Truly caring about the other person should take that fact into account, contrary to the Golden Rule.

I want to say Greyson's work & of course Moody's excellent, continuing insights into the significance of the NDE has led me to believe that we are in for a world-wide, shared death experience on Easter, 2026. Why? Because angelic & other higher realms have been trying to get humankind to face their shortcomings & bloody-mindedness for a very long time. The best known attempt was the well-documented Lady of Fatima experiences in the 1920s. Another one happened in 1962 in Garabandal, Spain, though it's less well known to the general public.
Now, we have a famous angel experiencer (he refers to them as orbs or spheres of light) known as Chris Bledsoe who says His Lady, a female spirit who has been appearing to him since 2012, predicts a world-wide event at Easter, 2026. The Lady's prediction falls in line roughly w/ the Virgin Mary's message of a sign followed by a miracle communicated at Garabandal.
What would be the most powerful way to help humankind face its deficiencies? Why, a shared NDE which includes a life review!!

This story reminds me of that famous one about precognition where, as a physics student, someone who later became famous for paranormal research read of some crucial event in that morning's New York Times - except that the story didn't come out til the next day. His fellow-students ridiculed him until they read it themselves, a day later. Again, I knew the story already, and that guy was also re- interviewed, but when the interviewer got to the reveal (as they call it in novels and screen plays) it wasn't made precisely clear, although of course it was easy to infer ... er, I hope that wasn't you doing that interview, Christopher, but even if it was, you come across as very warm and sincere and it's a pleasure to listen to you.

Now this might sound like crazy talk, but i suspect that i was born dead. 4 days without amniotic fluid before an "emergency" c section. Mom was so sick afterwards she wasn't allowed to see me for 2 weeks. And so many close calls with death, some intentional, i could list a bunch and still keep remembering more as things trigger memory. Perhaps death is not what we are told, but a thin line or enzyme or RNA protein that has nothing to do with animated body and mind but rather whether your energy or flesh is consumed. Either way, we exist within the parasite kingdom. There are beings without objective discernment who try to set traps and catch you fumbling or contradicting yourself. A trap in itself like Merriam Webster writing the dictionary with words that have many meanings and bind like spider webs. Or if you made choices and learned from the consequences and changed your perspective on the topic, these beings have not evolved, they are staked to their own claims. These beings are behind the curtain in all aspects of society, compliments of the industrial complex. They buried the truth and built social structures and foundations on top.

But he forgets to mention the cases where they met people in their NDE who WERE alive both before the NDE and after they were sent home from hospital.
