This happened in one of my football games. My coach asked the ref "what number" then the ref said "the entire line". My coach responded with "god damn it" and threw his hat on the floor lol

OR, at least one person on the line legit false started, which can prompt the rest of the line to false start as well. If you're on the line and the guy(s) next to you move(s), it might make you instinctively move as well.

I've seen it happen. Sometimes a center will shift or twitch without snapping the ball and will usually get penalized for it.
It is hard on centers to snap the ball and then explode out a split second afterwards. It is easy to twitch before snapping because of this challenge. I was always guard or tackle and I'm glad I never got center.
sure, if he starts to hike the ball, but doesn't. So, if he moves, but does not snap it to the QB. But if he just "hikes the ball"..........he cannot get a penalty.

Actually, sometimes it is the centers fault. Everyone on the line knows the snap count. If EVERY ONE false starts except the center, it's probably his fault.
It's always the center's fault. Every. Single. Time.
D4 or not. You know, something like the “Domino Effect”. If one guy moves from the corner of your eye, it could be an instinctive to react. Plus, if he’s wrong, no matter if everyone else jumps, the first guy is almost the one penalized.

When the entire line except the center is hit with a false start, the center is not "off the hook". In almost all cases, it's entirely the center's fault for not snapping in the first place.

You know this penalty is a beloved moment in the sport when someone records a game between San Jose State and Hawaii just to capture the moment.
When I first heard that penalty I laughed so hard because I didn't think that was a possible penalty. But now...it's happening more frequently. I wish there were more of these. Give those refs some air time!

For those confused by why this is funny:
In American football, the play starts when the center moves the ball. Usually the quarterback informs the teams in advance what the signal for the snap is, so everyone knows their cue. If any offensive player moves before the snap, it's a false start penalty. The referee will usually call out the player number who committed it, and most of the time it's a five yard penalty and the play is replayed. Most of the time a false start is a player or two flinching and moving too soon.
In this video it's usually the center's fault. He was probably supposed to move the ball but didn't, or maybe the rest of the team got the wrong signal because of some miscommunication. It's very rare that the entire rest of the teams commits the same foul at the same time, so it's pretty funny to hear a referee call a penalty on the entire team except one player.
That call never gets old at being hilarious (until the first time it ever gets called on my team).

What’s funny about this, is the fact that more often then it’s technically the Center’s fault for not snapping it on the cue.
Disclaimer: By “more often the not” I’m basically saying I think it’s 100% of the time, but I’m not entirely sure.
