That's what they want you to do, keep going back to buy the modified seeds. The natural seeds as we knew them before are gradually being replaced by the modified seeds. It's all about the big companies getting control of seed distribution.

11:43 because the seeds have been modified so their seeds don’t regrow, like the hybrids n GMOs and all those modified seeds. Taking the power of us able to regrow our own food leaving us to depend on them for seeds.

The seeds are actually modified for only 1 planting season, this was part of the GMO scandal in Kenya not too long ago as traditional maize farmers reuse their crop for replanting. It’s so unfortunate as kenya seed company has been sold out to a private company meaning they are now free to modify their seeds as they wish. Very unfortunate situation as Kenya is very much an agricultural economy

Charlow, you have the perfect environment to establish a compost area. This way you will have your own natural fertilizer. You do have amazing resources...However, natural or organic gardening is a challenge. Most of us can only wish we had your space...Imagine my garden only measures 8 feet x 6 feet...but it's still a joy. You guys are doing great...Things appear a bit over crowded...could be the result of the camera what I see...Keep up the great work.

    Hello,
I noticed all your garden's beds are wide. As I have been learning about gardening myself, I thought I could share this information with you.
"Ideally a garden bed should be no more than 1.2m (4‘) wide if it is accessed from both sides, Ideally 75 to 100 cm, as this width allows an adult to reach just past the centre from any side, giving optimum accessibility to the gardening area.
If garden beds are to be accessed from one side only, the optimum garden bed width is 60cm (2’), which is half of the width of a bed that can be accessed from both sides.
Can you easily reach past the centre of a garden bed from both sides? If you can’t it’s too wide!" (Deep Permaculture Garden).
Basically, you should be able to cross the bed with your legs if you want to go the otherside of the bed or weed without walking over the garden bed. For the length, you can decide if you want long or short garden beds. Shalom.

Since you live in a rice-producing area, you can use rice husks as mulching material on your raised beds. The husks will reduce weeds' emergence and add organic matter to your soil as they slowly decompose. In dry weather, husks will help retain your soil moisture

Hi Charlow I have noticed that you and Linet tend to pick yhe leaves of the Amaranth also knonw as Jamaican calllaloo. we tend to harvest most of the plant for cooking, using the stems which needs to be striped prior to dicing up, If tou continue to water daily it will regrow quickly giving lots more crops and will not go to seed so quickly. Further more in you either cut the seeds off and drop them they will regrow and you will not need to buy seedlings. try to keep them in the same position as theyspread easily. hope this is of assistance. Stay blessed

Hi Guys...the maize that will not regrow are referred to as 'terminator seeds'. They are GMO seeds. You can research Dr Vandana Shiva of India talking about Monsanto and terminator seeds. They also try to push these seeds off on many other developing countries. You have to seek out your native maize/corn seeds and begin to replant and preserve them for the future.

    • @Charlowkush001

Yes Charlow, I did ask. In my country we don't eat pumpkin leaves. We eat pumpkins as a vegetable by boiling them. They're also used in stewed peas or coocoo (ugali for you), or we make fritters with them. You can try the pumpkin in your "mokimo".

Why are some seeds (maize, etc) not able to grow viable crops. Seed companies produce hybrid varieties because they need you to come back and buy more seeds. Hybrids are produced from varieties with different chromosome counts. It's just like a horse crossed with a donkey and produces a mule (hybrid) the mule can not reproduce. The horse has 64 chromosomes, and the donkey has 62. The resulting mule gets half of the chromosomes of each parent, i.e., 32 from horse and 31 from donkey = 63 chromosomes. Only things with even number of chromosomes are able to reproduce.
