I lived in that dorm 2 years ago, some 20 meters from where the drone crashed , even my window was overlooking the Sava river. It was pure luck that noone got killed, since students are usually walking at night at that very spot, returning from a night out. I was surprised to see a video about this topic!
I've seen a number of US gov't videos about industrial accidents. Frequently, accidents happen because someone disabled an alarm system because it kept going off or because previous false alarms caused people to ignore the real thing. You'd think that, with a war going on next door, you'd pay attention to anything flying into your air space, but I guess not.
after a number of false alarms, people tend to get complacent. And especially if superiors threaten them with punishment if they make a false report again they're more likely to not report something and claim later they never saw it than to report it on the off chance it might be real this time. That attitude isn't new, it's been there forever. The main reason Mathias Rust wasn't shot down for example was pretty much the same. After the shooting down of KAL007 over Siberia there had been such a backlash in the Soviet air defense forces that the officers who should have ordered the Cessna shot down or forced to land were afraid to do so without direct orders from Moscow, orders that never came because their superiors who had to relay the requests to Moscow were afraid to bother the generals in the ministry of defense...
Since most of the EU had no idea that anything had fallen on Zagreb, Mr. Felton surprised me every time. This drone is a relic ready for a museum, but it was used by the Ukrainian army for an exercise There are two possible variants of the event: provoking the Russian Air Force to reveal its radar positions but a malfunction in the outdated navigation system led it to my city Another possible scenario is the deliberate launch of a drone through the airspace of NATO members to show the Alliance Command that we are all vulnerable, if the 1970 drone can, then modern missiles can do much more. Our Prime Minister together with the Minister of Defense put forward the thesis that an FAB-120 air bomb was placed in the drone and they placed it in the media without evidence or findings of experts who only confirmed that there were traces of explosives on the drone but from retro parachute launchers and a small charge in a system that would destroy equipment in a drone so that the enemy would not find out what his reconnaissance mission was This was confirmed by the retired pilot of the Croatian Air Force, Brigadier Ivan Selak, that all Russian planes have similar charges aimed at destroying communication devices. I don't know why our government is sticking to the air bomb story because the people don't feel safe that bombs are falling on the capital again after 27 years since the war for independence. Or is it a story for NATO to create some kind of hysteria to increase control over our country because we currently do not have the ability to control the sky at night It seems that we Croats will not find out the truth so quickly
Could be a test from Russia to see how deep the Soviet drone would go in and it went all the way. A test before they decide they to launch hypersonic missiles at NATO capital cities, London, Berlin, Paris.
Remember that in 1987, at the height of the Cold War, a German student pilot flew a Cessna from Finland into Russia and landed in Red Square. If he got through arguably the densest air defense region in the world, (at the time), none of this surprises me.
In an airspace incursion the air defense operators will request a pilot do a visual check of the radar contact. The pilot would have identified the civilian Cessna and known it was not a NATO attack. Then it becomes an interior police issue.
@@Draculas-knight Have you seen Mr. Felton's videos? Its mostly all about Nazi's and 80 years ago. Seeing this type of video from even 10 years ago is spooky. I dont want to be around for world war 3.
Hi Mark! Im Croatian, and also a fellow history and military enthusiast. I just wanted to say, that It takes 10 minutes to assemble the squadron of our MiG-21s, the drone was in our airspace for 7 minutes, so it wasn't possible for it to be intercepted. I am glad that the drone fell and didn't injure anyone, it could of went much worse. Im glad our government after this incident started to think about buying an air defence system like the Patriot or NASAMS, because we currently dont have any air defence systems and it is the biggest disadvantage of our military. But 12 French Rafale f3r fighters are on order.
I, on the other hand, wish it would have hit the student home and caused casualties. Not because I want innocents to needlessly die, i am croatian as well, but because maybe, and just maybe, then NATO would have gotten the much needed kick in the ass and realized how bloody useless their defences are. This way, few months later, no one will remember this even happened.
Here in the UK we have scramble teams that within 30 seconds of hearing the alarm, are in the cockpit starting up taxi and rotate. And can be anywhere in country within 3 minutes
@@user-fh9vh6hr7w our scramble time is always good. But intercepting within 3 minutes with a fighter is optimistic to say the least. North Sea contact times for example are closer to 8minutes
Simple. Any Russian drone that violates NATO airspace you destroy. Give the Ukrainian drones a break as long as they are not using NATO airspace to launch attacks on Russian. If they are using NATO airspace for defense then I'd let them go. But no, absolutely zero tolerance for cruise missiles.
Dr Felton does the most factual reporting without being weighed down with political baggage. As a child he must have practiced skipping stones over a swamp. We all clearly understand the implications from this, just the same. Thank you.
How can Feltons reporting be factual? No one really knows what's going on at tge time of any significant event. That's what makes actual history interesting. Most Facts are brought to light DECADES after the event, after Governments declassify documents, Prominent people have passed away etc.

@@mkshffr4936 Wouldn't be the first sign of incompetence from the Ukrainian armed forces. Remember the missile that struck a high building in Kiev at the end of February? That was a misguided Ukrainian missile SA-17 Grizzly (per NATO reporting names).
to be fair to Romania, you mentioned that it was in Hungarian airspace for 40 minutes, by the look's of it from it's path on the map, how long was it in Romanian airspace , 5 minutes if that. They had no chance of intercepting it before it entered Hungarian Airspace. This drone probably even has the Y2K bug :), I'm shocked the thing not only didn't blow up on launch, but actually worked to a degree.
Being from Zagreb, I'm still not quite convinced there was an actual bomb on that drone, as the start of the investigation was very poorly organized (many Croatian former and current military officials said that alternatively it was just a small charge to destroy the camera and film). Regardless, this absolutely should not have happened and shows some major problems in the NATO chain of command and defence systems.
Also interestingly, while it most probably was Ukrainian and not Russian, it had old red star markings instead of the Ukrainian coat of arms, which the drones modernized a few years ago by Ukraine have.
@@midgetydeath It mostly buried itself underground which is behaviour consistent with such a high-speed, kinetic impact, and somewhat inconsistent with a bomb.
@@markotunjic5384 Initial statements by officials were indeed very clumsy. I believe this reduction of size was mostly due to a poor choice of words - at first they said the bomb's weight was 140kg, which was interpreted as the amount of explosives, but then they "clarified" that was the weight of the entire bomb which contained only 40kg of pure explosives. That amount is still a lot and many think it would have made a bigger crater.
After 7 minutes of flying from the Hungarian border, the Ukrainian drone Tu-141 ran out of fuel and, according to the program, dropped a parachute, which probably fell off due to age and did not do its job, and the drone crashed into the ground creating a 3m crater. The drone itself probably carried an intelligence package instead of a combat one, and the parts and traces of explosives found were minimal and probably served for self-destruction. If indeed the drone was equipped with a warhead, the warhead did not activate, because otherwise a warhead of 100-120 kg of explosives would do drastically more damage and a crater of much larger diameter.
@@MarkFeltonProductions It should be noted that many other current and former Croatian military officials expressed doubt in the "large bomb" theory, instead opting for the "small bomb" described here (as the crater wasn't incredibly large, non of the debris were expelled from it, almost no window in the vicinity shattered...). Indeed the government itself is the only official source, but their initial statements were very clumsy and rushed, leading some to believe the statements about the bomb were only said to get NATO's interest.

Hungary needs to be expelled from NATO already. They've given more than sufficient cause. This is no different than if a Communist revolution had happened in a NATO member in the 1970s, and the nation tried to remain in NATO while also joining the Warsaw Pact. Nobody would've allowed it then, so why is Hungary allowed to be openly anti-NATO yet still remain a member?
Mark Felton videos are fascinating but usually one feels rather safe and secure in viewing them in knowing that they are about events remote in time by 3/4 of a century. This video strikes a nerve, though, because it's in the here and now.
About the same response was given about Japanese planes off Hawaii on December 7th, 1941. The higher ups thought it was a flock of birds. The operators and chain of command should be disciplined, reprimanded and retrained. A glitch that lasts 40 minutes is a serious problem that needs to repaired. Especially since this radar system is the front line defense of Europe.
IIRC, the radar contact from the station at the north end of the island was dismissed somewhere in the chain of command as being the flight of B-17s that was expected to arrive that morning.
I can imagine. It flew near the Hungarian nuclear power plant. The Hungarian forces did not react. We just had an election campaign and they kept quiet about it. There is no public investigation either. I'm very sad.
This was not accidental crash, it has to be programmed to hit in Zagreb. Tu-141 is programmed a bit complicated for the flight, most of the guidance parameters are analog inputs so that "error" would not lead to such a stable flight path, further from radar monitoring there are flight path corrections of wind-induced deviations are visible and also very obvious course corrections, ie the drone had very specific targets because the correction parameters were narrowly set to save fuel if larger deviations from the direct nearest path to the target were allowed. Furthermore, the urbanized area of Croatia is so small that the probability that an aircraft consumes fuel after a flight of more than 1000 km and "falls" right on Zagreb is approximately 1: 235808000
Really appreciate that Mark is putting this information out. His expertise in this field is extremely helpful. I hope he may cover some of the goings on around Mariupol and other port cities.

Personally satisfied to hear the full version of the acronym "UFO" used correctly. Apparently though the body of the drone was Russian made all the internal components, controls sensors et cetera, where just parts taken from elsewhere and used to operate the drone. Her majesty’s empire did great things as well as some bad. In the grand scheme of things our British cousins did more for the greater good, certainly than any other at the time. They spread western civilization and culture. They took education with them and laid the foundation for research and development in all the sciences . They drug mankind into the twentieth century. When they pulled out of what once was a colony, they left an ally that was far more capable of defending themselves against those that were more technologically advanced and would never let them go. Much less treat than with respect and dignity.of course the empire was growing up during the time also. I think it learned quick. Through the stories of the good and the bad we all learned more to grow as a tolerant culture. It seems that the lesson’s we thought we knew from the twentieth century , didn’t sink in for some. Or is it a story for NATO to create some kind of hysteria to increase control over our country because we currently do not have the ability to control the sky at night
It seems that we Croats will not find out the truth so quickly
Could also be a poor attempt for a false flag attack to pull NATO into direct conflict.
Could be a test from Russia to see how deep the Soviet drone would go in and it went all the way. A test before they decide they to launch hypersonic missiles at NATO capital cities, London, Berlin, Paris.

Yes..I agree..it's healthy once it's objective coverage...
Remember that in 1987, at the height of the Cold War, a German student pilot flew a Cessna from Finland into Russia and landed in Red Square. If he got through arguably the densest air defense region in the world, (at the time), none of this surprises me.
He wasn't a threat.
In an airspace incursion the air defense operators will request a pilot do a visual check of the radar contact. The pilot would have identified the civilian Cessna and known it was not a NATO attack. Then it becomes an interior police issue.

Patriots cost a few billion USD, I do not think we'll be buying it soon. Perhaps on a 1000 years loan.

Agreed, super interesting, factual information superbly and professionally presented. Top marks.

How can Feltons reporting be factual? No one really knows what's going on at tge time of any significant event. That's what makes actual history interesting. Most Facts are brought to light DECADES after the event, after Governments declassify documents, Prominent people have passed away etc.

I'm from Croatia and you covered the topic so proffessional and in interesting way and a lot better than our media.
to be fair to Romania, you mentioned that it was in Hungarian airspace for 40 minutes, by the look's of it from it's path on the map, how long was it in Romanian airspace , 5 minutes if that.
The damage caused by its crash is impossible without a bomb.
@@TheGrejp Arguments about explosive are weird. First it was like 140 kilo bomb, with time going down to 40 kilo.
I can only rely on what the Croatian government has released as they have the wreckage.

I think it's fair to say that while Viktor Orbán remains in office, Hungary cannot be relied upon to fulfil its NATO obligations in peace or war.
Hungary cannot be relied to fulfill any of their obligations, Orban has no respect for democracy and corruption runs rampart under him. Thats why the EU is rightfully cutting their founding.
Hungary needs to be expelled from NATO already. They've given more than sufficient cause. This is no different than if a Communist revolution had happened in a NATO member in the 1970s, and the nation tried to remain in NATO while also joining the Warsaw Pact. Nobody would've allowed it then, so why is Hungary allowed to be openly anti-NATO yet still remain a member?

excellent reporting Mark. thanks.
