    I have a huge lantana growing in my yard, and was told the berries are poisonous, yet the bird love them. Now, after your video, not so sure, and next year will be a brave explorer and try some! Would send you a picture of the plant as it is probably 5 feet in circumference, but, alas, no way to do this here.

    Planted decoratively all over Shenzhen. Lived here 7 years and they always seem to be flowering; just today for the first time saw one fruiting and immediately thought I had to see if Jared has reviewed them.
    You survived eating them, so tomorrow I'll have to pick a few to bring home.

    • @WeirdExplorer
      @WeirdExplorer  3 года назад +1

      yeah it's still questionable on its edibility, so I'd be cautious trying it just in case

      @joelsmith3473 3 года назад +1

      @@WeirdExplorer Oh absolutely, and I appreciate the reply.
      I ended up only eating a few of them; less than you did even. Got a good idea how they tasted, which is very similar to the scent of the flowers, and I was satisfied. The berries don't exactly present themselves to eating very many as the seed is sizable and surprisingly hard.

      I thought he already tasted oregon grapes in some video a while back? He said they were very tart if I recall.
      Huckleberries are delightful, I've tasted them in forests of Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington state. I think the best ones were the ones from Oregon. I was working at Crater Lake National Park. Head out of the park going South West towards Medford. There's a large pull out on the south side of the road labeled something like "Sno Park". There are some little roads that go off into the forest from the right pull out. I think one of them is labeled "Huckleberry Trail". It's a dirt road. I found a huge number of huckleberry bushes along that road. Mid June to early July is about the time of year to find ripe huckleberries if I recall correctly. Watch out for bears, they want to eat huckleberries just as much as we do.
      In Wyoming, inside the Grand Teton National Park, there's a trail heading north from the Jenny Lake area that has huckleberry bushes along the way (emerald lake trail? i can't remember). But there is too much shade from all the trees so the berries were not as tasty as the ones in Oregon.

    Speaking of pouteria, I was fortunate enough to have eggfruit for the first time on Maui a couple of weeks ago. I found two differently shaped ones at a market, there was the classic big heart shaped one, then ones that looked like miniature honey mangoes, with a more pink color skin. The smaller ones were fantastic and are definitely one of my favorite exotic fruits I’ve had!
