Forget trans for a moment - Why was the funeral of an atheist allowed in a Catholic Cathedral? Usually, the parish will ask if the deceased is Catholic and verify that by contacting the home parish. Why wasn't this done? Surely, St. Patrick's is in enough demand that the privilege of a funeral Mass is reserved for Catholics. The deceased being a trans activist makes me think this was planned and approved.

Where is the birth certificate? The person's name at birth is unknown? Where is the baptismal certificate? A Catholic funeral is celebrated for the baptized Catholic. Where is the bishop's canonical dispensation? Why have the incompetencies of the vetting process not been removed?
The was laxity on the part of the Staff who received the request without a "Complete Staff Work" of background checking.
A baptismal certificate would have been sufficient.

I am coming into the church this Easter vigil. I wondered if the priest am bishop were intimidated by the people. When they came into the parish and began to act the way they did it seems to me that would’ve been a mob mentality . I don’t know I saw the video and the priest sitting in the chair, and I wondered if he thought “Oh God, what have I allowed to happen?”
Perhaps if we pray a Rosary with all the mysteries with these people as our intentions, there would be a change in their hearts.
It all boils down to this: Satan knows that he is going down and he wants to take all of us with him. God made and loves these people. When people die and go to hell even if they made that choice, I believe Gods heart is broken. We just need to pray for them.

Usually, when a family contacts a priest for a funeral , the priest/bishop ask a number of questions and if the deceased is not Catholic and other issues that arise, the deceased would have a burial service or a service at funeral home. Fathet should have stopped it before it began

Why did Cardinal Dolan called the priest a hero?
He called the Priest who made the decision to not have a Mass and only have a service “a Hero”
Bishop Liam Cary should be commended for resisting Feducia supplicans. The American Church should support the African Bishops who are upholding 2000 yrs of Catholic teaching.
1- the priest uses the phrase “turned out” that’s a term with a specific impure connotation. He didn’t say “big crowd” or “showed up”, but there’s a pause for people to catch on. Sad.
2- a “process” isn’t what allowed rupnik’s crimes to go unpunished. A “conservative” priest has no problem getting his faculties pulled for any accusation or even a comment in a sermon. His excommunication was lifted and he has been protected by those who have the authority and duty to carry out justice. The laws are there, these aren’t new problems in the church. The hierarchy isn’t serious about fixing it.
This wouldn’t have happened in a Traditional Latin Mass church. FSSP, ICKSP, SSPX etc would never have allowed it because there is a proper vetting process.

@@therealongI am fully endorsing the TLM because the rubrics don’t allow for ad lib from priests. It’s the same Mass in the USA as it is in Europe, Africa etc. That is what is beautiful about it. Because of the strict rubrics and the beauty that flows from it, there is no way a requiem Mass would have been allowed for a situation like the one at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

Indeed, they should have checked the background of "Cecilia" If this individual was not defacto Catholic, then no funeral was to be granted in the catholic house of worship. I can live with that.

Finally, this disjoint between treatment accorded to Rupnik versus "Cecilia" event was just absolutely NOT ACCEPTABLE.
I think soon, we'll see some big event coming on the 06th day of the month this calendar year on the East Coast of U.S.

“Dialogue” = years of clergy agreeing with heretics
"... open channels of dialogue" is the usual phrase given as a reason for a chat with heretics. It should be noted that the Catholic Church is to proclaim the Gospel to the world, not to dialogue with those who refuse the accept the basic beliefs of our Faith.
