I can remember when I was about five or six years old, my Father was on his Helicrafters Ham radio and made a contact wih a direct decendent of "Hans Christian Anderson" in the Canary islands, I was sitting next to him listening to the Signal Corps BC-348. Dad called CQ and the Canary Island operator, once that happened, every operator listening on 20 meters tried to make the contact, Dad got pissed and fired up his home brewed 813 powered tube linear, turned a couple of dials and the rest was history. Dad rarely used a linear, he mostly relied on the four element cubicle quads, gain factor to do the job, he would keep his linear in standy by mode until he needed it. Great contact UDX-791 your contacts are priceless and great to watch Happy holidays and 73's from UDX-4570 Take care!
Great story and coooool contact for your dad. Must have been great to have been there to witness that when you were a kid. Fun! I remember the old tube linear amp, because I owned one back in late 1970's early 80's. I have a Kris Big Boomer 600 watts I would run with my full quad. If they couldn't hear me, then I would flick on some horsepower lol. Cheers & 73's
